Lagos State Will Celebrate Golden Jubilee In 2017 by Orikinla1(op):
Lagos State was created on 27 May 1967 according to the State Creation and Transitional Provisions Decree No. 14 of 1967, which restructured Nigeria into a Federation of 12 states.

Lagos with a population of more than 22 million people is Africa's largest megacity and 5th biggest economy in the continent: bigger than the economies of Kenya and Cote d'Ivoire.
Lagos can become Africa's biggest economy as a country.
Unlike the other 35 states in Nigeria, Lagos does not need the federal revenue allocations to survive.

More updates to follow as we countdown to the Golden Jubilee celebration in 2017..

Although it covers only 0.4th of Nigeria’s territorial land mass, making it the smallest state in the country, it accounts for over 60% of industrial and commercial activities in the nation.

If taken as a country on its own, Lagos would be amongst the largest economies in Africa. It has been able to diversify its economy and to considerably reduce its dependence on oil allocations. But its potentials are still huge if it invested in skilled labour force, reduced its bureaucratic hurdles and adopted an inclusive development approach.
