In 1967, during the early days of the Biafran war, Professor Wole Soyinka was accused of being a Biafran spy. The photo was taken the day he was arrested by the Nigerian police. He was put in solitary confinment for 2 years.

Truth234:

Leadership is earned not given, the youths of this generation want leadership on a platter of gold. That is what is wrong, Ojukwu took on a war that will forever define him and in fact spring forth current struggle of the IPOB youths when he was only 33 years. Gowon became president at 32 and ruled for 9 years, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart at age of 28, Awolowo, Babangida, Azik, Nkrumah of Ghana, Thomas Sankara etc have three things this generation don't. Hope, Dream and high sense of responsibility. A lot of them, good or bad, were so convinced in their cause they were ready and prepared to die for it. What we have now are social media warriors, fools without direction or passion for a tangible cause. If I was a leader I won't hand them leadership either.
Lol, those were very different times. Ojukwu Nigeria army at age 24 after schooling abroad he was promoted every 2years till he got to the top in less than 10 years today such is impossible. Google Lauritta Onye 32, Olympic gold medalist, world record breaker but poverty stricken regardless she has nothing no car no house nothing, if after all these no headway what are we saying? she said she rather be a truck pusher than represent nigeria again. Myself, i'm under 21, I like writing and for long now I've been looking for book deals up and down nobody knows what it is here so I wanted to do it abroad but it's expensive so I shelved the idea for now till I travel, I wanted to start a farm as well my people told me I should finish school first (i'm doing one of these 7 year courses I've gone far sha)
My friend a photographer has too many competition
My lecturers who are old almost half of them lectured my dad when he attended the same uni they tell us that inn their time before, during and after the biafran war that they had multiple opportunities you could be a civil servant with secondary school cert all of them got scholarships abroad from govmt upon finishing their first degrees and one even told us how 6 companies including our school offered him job and he had to chose we today do not have such luxury sir. In my 500 level now sir we are 200 students in lvl 400 they are 250+ in 300 they are 300+ in 200 they are 300 in year 1 the same thing so sir I do not believe those times are same as today we today are facing peculiar challenges coupled with the fact that technology is taking our jobs.
In the past you couldn't find lawyers as secretaries or clerks or musicians or public speakers or photographers today it is the norm I saw an advert a year ago that read lawyer needed with sound computer skill and a bias for legal drafting 20,000 per month in my father's house today I get 35k monthly + 50k christmas bonus and 150k at the beginning or end of each year how much more a married man with a kid what will 20k do and some don't get paid at all just experience and books while they work for free
And mind you lecturers are something else in a certain faculty in my school a certain lecturer likes tall girls and my bae that year was tall and fine she had to remain incognito and bribe her way through if not. Nigeria was messed up before we were born our elders messed it up for us we are only managing to survive, how can we prove ourselves without being given a chance. Do you want the youths to revolt? Cos that's the only way out.

my son beware of those given to change because they dont say what they do,they dont do what they say.they will support you into fame and conspire to bring you down as was the case of mko,the likes of fayemi, fashola, oyegun have betrayed tinubu, the wisest of their son obj would rather betray his afonja kinsmen a thousand times and i doubt they will ever have a chance to betray him(obj) which is their national sport.

if the government were civilized, they wouldnt have arrested a man for airing his opinion, did the american jail martin luther king for not supporting the vietnam warg?prof was handled carefully in order not to tamper with yorubas sensitivities and support in the 3rd marine.but immediately after the war,any yoruba that annoys them have tasted prison.until we give the northerners their due respect as crafty people and not as unintelligent abokis, they will continue to use and dump us.now they have messed with tinubu, they are now courting orji uzor kalu who had corruption case hanging on his head so that when they fall out with him, they will re-open his case.the only solution is to revisit sir herbert macaulay's vision of a united south but yorubas hate igbos for being proud and prefers the fulani for being ruthless with power.if the south can unite, the igbos will provide the daring and go to hell attitude needed to keep power while the yoruba will provide the media cover and the wickedness needed in keeping power but we would rather watch each other fall.

Wow before coming online i was reading "The man died" by wole soyinka. A commentary of his days of struggle.
wole soyinka being a wiseman knew that if the northerners are helped to crush the east which is the only region that is a military threat to their outright domination, the will have a free ride over the rest of nigeria and soyinka's fears have come to pass.they now have a stranglehold on the rest of us so the only way to make them fear is for yorubas to support biafra and u will be surprised the hausas will give concessions to yorubas.when jumong went to war with the han,the buyeo prime minister advised the buyeo to support the han because after defeating the han, jumong will turn his attention on buyeo.

[quote author=Longeaton post=52393041]Y r we yorubas trying to placate this igbo ppl. They are the most racist and sentimal tribe in the world. Despite the sacrifices of Prof, they still call him names. We better leave their matter. The igbo ppl flock nairaland daily to make racist comments and even give likes in droves to the most ignorant, barbaric and unintelligent comments. The Igbo stay in multitude in almost every part of Nigeria and yet hate everyone except their tribemates#bigots. Remember, you canif the igbos are found in multitudes in every part of nigeria, will it be wrong to say that the igbos are the tribe with highest population in nigeria?the north is messing with both of us,recently they used excel app to compute ridiculous figures of how kano is more populated than lagos.you think u are doing the igbos,u are also doing urself.

My brother you sounded like one of my great friend's view of WS.

I am a literary minded person though operating in the technology sector.

Steve Job was just a business man who made so much from selling what some people called over priced gadgets that are not sine quo none to life. Was Steve Job Albert Einstein or Thomas Edison that I will prefer him over our own world renowned professor that the then US president had to convince to come settle down in America by issuing him a green card. He contributed to the body of knowledge in the best citadels of learning in that country from Harvard to Pricinton, Howard, New York, Yale, etc.

Let me remind you before you castigate him for not doing anything for Nigeria. He lectured at UNILAG, Ibadan and so many years at Ife where he won the nobel lauret. He became professor at Ife and later emeritus of same school

Those time he wa lecturing abroad he's always home attending one function or the other to force good governance.

I'm so much inspired by WS works, written or staged and by his activism to liberate Nigeria from misgovernance.

My brother, Oyinbo will not beat you if you appreciate heroes from you country.

That is why I love Yoruba man except their bastard ones. How many times have you seen Yoruba man bringing down the name of respected man of another tribe? No! They won't do it. Even if they criticise it will be constructive. Even when their bastards try to bring down reputable name, it is either against their own, in support of other tribe. See this man, Mr Reno, he and bastard Yoruba man always in the name of criticism incite tribe against tribe in politics because they are not in power. Now, they are trying to extend it beyond politic. In the name of one Nigeria, I don't think such people should be promoted, they earn their filthy lives through such an act.....motherfuckers...let Prof. Wole and Anichebe rest.
