Thanks, was in talk with a corporate firm some time back with no avail cos we couldn't settle for a better price. Pls school me on the disadvantage of the 'rush rush' dude production and also throw light on the app testing.

Thanks for your audible reply. A lead investor only promised $12k after many presentations. I feel my programmer frnd is unnecessarily inflating the cost of building this app. What firm or programmer do you recommend for me to could look up online.

A good solo programmer who knows his stuff could be charging you $100/hr (nigeria). Higher outside. And the project could easily gulp 1000+ hrs or more! An MVP could be created in rush mode in say, 100 - 200 hrs. The polished ready-for-world version, could take 2000hrs+. So you see where the money comes in? An ordinary web dev guy, could mock it up with his favorite framework in a few tens of hours. An engineer and his team, creating really scalable work, would spend a lot of his time fine tuning the app in the back-end, the critical side, and may chose to write it from scratch without frameworks, and use a mix of programming languages, so as to keep the code size small. keep it lean and fast, keep it responsive.

You'd definitely need in-house developers, a UX team, a very good designer, that you'd be paying Salaries, maybe 2 very good developers for a start, that is after the app has been built by a bit more developers. Quality is very important in something like this.

I'm not a programmer, more of web design and developing, I Know firms that Charge over $5k For UX and design (Not Nigerian), but you know you're getting quality cause UX (user experience) will make or break any app.

Take this with a pinch of salt, I'd say budget at least $25k for good quality work, very good $50k, top quality, over $100k.

I don't even know any UX and design firm in Nigeria.

I think you should hear from pros, that is, product managers that have done something like this, if you send them a nice friendly mail, I'm sure youd get a reply from them on what is involved in a project like this, especially those that blog.

If you are not a programmer, then this app can cause you about $150 000 or more if you really want to own an App that will stand the test of time. Also take note that App have a life cycle cost because the app will need maintenance throughout.
Developing an App when you do not have any background knowledge of how App development works can be very expensive because of the following reason:
-Some of the programmers will claim they can do it when they cannot hence developed an inferior app you may not like.
-Some programmer may over engineer the app which will cost a lot of money and if you decide not to continue with them, it will be very difficult to find programmers to continue with the project hence fail project or more cost
-Some programmers can only code and are not business oriented hence can not advice you on the direction to take equal to fail App.

If you have any experience in App development, then I will advice you developed a very simple App personally and seek help from other developers as were as from google hence it will be very cheaper for you, once you start making money from the app, you can then develop a better version. Or you contact a firm and have a solid contract with them.

Have it in mine that more than 70% of software projects fail!
