Thank you hammed for setting up this insightful platform. More grease to ur elbow. I have a B.tech in chemical engineering with strong intentions to pursue my pg degree after my nysc program. Questions that boggles my mind are:
1. Would I apply now that am still serving with the hope of kicking off with the program next year when am done with service? I will round off serving by october but I dont want the 2017/2018 session to elude me.
2. Is it possible for me to be working while studying?

is it only in ABU that NYSC ID is allowed to use to apply for PGD which other school do you think has that style?

Brother, tnx alit for your contribution in this thread. But my own problem is that am a kind of confused for now on how to get started with this M.SC goal, I have been in the street since I graduated(4yrs) now. However, I have to start from some where.
To start with, to apply for this scholarships, what are required from the applicant
Please never mind to explain it from the scratch. As I said before, its been long but wish to go back to school now. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks..

1. You can apply now, as most PGD school resumes within the first quarter of each year,, so applying now will stand you a better chance of not waiting at home after service.
2. You can opt in for M.Sc part time program, usually longer than full time I guess.
. Hope this help atleast for start

No problem bro.

To apply for this scholarship, you need to have your full transcript, your certificate, your test of English(unless you're applying to Canada or some UK University), a strong personal statement, community services, a lot of volunteering works, leadership potential, a strong reference letter, with letter headed... Most importantly, a lot of prayers to support it.

Pls note, the scholarship are real, they don't only consider your grade, but all of the above, your grade can only stand you a better chance when applying.

Hope this help for a start.

Bro, tnx a lot, ur info is helping already but more are left to clarify.
Among all this requirements, which ones are involved on the ground of personal sponsor. That is non scholarship. Bcoz that list of requirement seems to be complicated, there wasn't time for some things there.

Bro, tnk you very much for your numerous contribution to this thread. I also graduated from Umudike. Please how can I apply for my transcript so that it can be sent to my M.Sc school of prospect(abroad). I also need a copy too, considering the fact that am also not in Nija. How can get this done (may be by proxy or otherwuse) easily please.

fergie001:
I graduated from Umudike.Well,UI is cool,d environment is peaceful and a nice place 2 reside esp when u want 2 run away from Lagos wahala.
A serious student will get thru depending on your dept but d Max is 24mnths,depts like education, physics,English, chemistry, mostly sciences, education and arts should take u roughly 17mnths,devoid of strike.Engrg, and some other more difficult ones will be like 21months,so d key is more haste less speed.
D schoolfees range from 90-120k depending on dept.120k is Max for d 1st session,Students who graduated from universities other than UI pay slightly higher, like 2500 difference.d 3rd semester which is strictly for project,u pay half of d 1st semester.for example:As an engrg stud,I paid 112550(non-UI stud),d 3rd semester I pay 52k.All these are accommodation exclusive.Accommodation is 25k for a 3man room,u are guaranteed at least 18hrs power supply daily.
Am not marketing d school, but dat is no1 in d country for PG Education in Nigeria(u can verify).Like all school environments, house rent isn't that cheap, but it is cheaper compared 2 Lagos.UI pays one of d cheapest if not d cheapest at MSc level, excepting in d North.
The time frame is maintained strictly, except its ur fault. The hidden charges at dept levels are d deptal dues, association dues and all dat,its faculty-dependent,d highest u can pay is 4k dat I know of which is even in Chemistry dept.I paid 2k for mine.
No hidden charges for anythn, lab work stuffs are in your schoolfees,if any other thing u can discuss with your supervisor,d best I know here is not a place someone can just be collecting your cash.
One secret here in UI is dat,d only thing d lecturers need from u is a very good and publishable research work.that's their sole aim.Of course,u know when u publish,ur supervisor takes 60% of d glory.
80% of thesis in UI are published. We have been told already, that u MUST publish.
The lecturers have avenues and links to where these papers can b published.Do a good job,ur supervisor will open d door.
Hope I was able 2 answer a bit of d ?,tnx

Very perfect explanation from this bro, transcripts ain't easy, it takes longer time, just request for student and institution copy at the same time. someone can actually pick it up for you and scan to you, the registrar office will also have to send it abroad on your behalf..
fergie001:

Wow,that's great.What set?
Well, transcript is an issue especially in Government schools in this country. For d Umudike experience its this;U apply 2 d Registrar....within Nigeria its 7500 as at 2015,foreign transcript will obviously be higher.Get access or in touch with someone who can always help u to grease d palm of an influential staff there,am not in Abia now, could have been easier, cos I used 2 know my way around there. The students copy isn't really difficult, could be way easier and cheaper. But for d main transcript, persistence and calls.Since u are out of d country, could have been cool if u have someone on ground who will make it a point of duty to always give dem headache, otherwise they won't act.
On d other hand,if ur transcript have been requested by u b4 or been sent at your request at anytime,it is quite easier, cos d issue about transcript is d collation of results from year 1,semester by semester...so if it already had been sent anywhere b4 now,u will just pay and in less than 2weeks with a trusted courier(which u will pay 4 separately),it will get 2 d school.,otherwise it could get over 2 months.Just impress it on any staff of d registrar's office, who can help u out,cos it passes through many tables.
Hope I answered a bit of ur ?Happy New Year
