2017 Anambra Guber Poll: There Is No Better Alternative To Obiano by Ucheosefoh(m): 7:42am On Jan 08, 2017 |
That this year is another election year, for the governorship seat of Anambra state, is an open secret. This is because the Nigerian Constitution has made it compulsory for governors and Presidents in the country to serve for only four years in each of their terms of office in a tenure that must not exceed eight years. Although the incumbent governor of Anambra state, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, came into office on March 17, 2014, he was actually elected in November 2013. It therefore follows that the next governorship poll in the state will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the last quarters of 2017. As a matter of fact, INEC would in about four months to the election, officially lift ban on public campaigns by the political parties and candidates that would emerge from their primaries. Notwithstanding this, subtle campaigns have already commenced in earnest since last year. Again, irrespective of the fact that primaries must be conducted by the parties there are very strong indications that Governor Obiano would once again fly the flag of his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. He is legally entitled to go for a second term as the governor of the state. Other likely contestants in the other political parties have equally started showing their interests in the gubernatorial race. This conclusion is inferred from the public statements being made by them, and the body language of some of them. They would however subject themselves to the rigours of primaries of their various political parties. For obvious reasons, Obiano's success in the APGA governorship primaries is already a fait accompli or a foregone conclusion. For the gubernatorial election proper, the incumbent governor of the state, apart from the advantage of his paraphernalia of office, has other factors that has already placed him head and shoulders above his likely challengers. It is not in doubt that he is performing exceptionally well as the governor of the state. As a matter of fact, many political pundits say that Obiano is apparently the best political leader to ever govern Anambra state in her twenty five years history. With his security initiative considered the most efficacious in Nigeria today among the thirty six federating units in the country and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Anambra is evidently enjoying the safest and most secured environment. This has created a very conducive atmosphere for smooth implementation of his administration's four pillars of development namely; mechanized agriculture, trade and commerce, oil and gas in addition to industrialization. With the efficient security network in the state, the present Anambra state government is seamlessly implementing its other eleven enablers of socio-economic growth and development to the delight of the masses. Today, the state has truly become Nigeria's first choice investment destination and a hub for industrialization and commercial activities as defined in the vision and mission statements of the present state government under the watch of Governor Obiano. The honour, integrity and dignity of Ndi Anambra, which hitherto took a flight as a result of a long period of maladministration, have graciously been restored. The Obiano government has given true meaning to the concept of AKU LUE UNO. Many Anambra born entrepreneurs are currently bringing their investments to the state. Over four hundred living and dead distinguished citizens of the state, irrespective of their diverse political affiliations and religious or denominational inclinations were last December given merit awards by the present administration at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia. They out in their numbers to be honoured without fear of being harassed, robbed and kidnapped in any part of the state, as was rampantly the case before Governor Obiano took over the mantle of leadership. Again, Ndi Anambra savoured the most blissful Christmas and New year recently. They drove on smooth roads and moved around at night on illuminated streets in our cities and some major routes in the state. This is truly unprecedented in the chequered history of our beloved state. There is therefore no doubt that the pride and confidence of Ndi Anambra and their state have been effectively restored among the comity of states in Nigeria and beyond. Undoubtedly, the governor's achievements in the past two and half years or thereabout are both visible and tangible for the Anambra electorate to see and feel. Obiano has also demonstrated that he is a man of good and noble intentions who wants the best for his state. It is pertinent to note that the good people of the state do not also suffer from collective amnesia, to the extent of not remembering the atrocities committed in the recent past by certain unscrupulous elements, who belong to other political parties in the state. They still remember the opprobrium and anarchy their state was plunged into before APGA took charge of the affairs of the state since March 17, 2006, after about three years legal battle to reclaim its mandate stolen in the April 2003 governorship election. The people know that their incumbent governor is genuinely determined and committed to taking Anambra state to a higher pedestal. Ndi Anambra are equally afraid of being compelled again to experience bad governance, political crises and instability they were made to suffer between May 29, 1999 and March 17, 2006. For these reasons, they have no better alternative to Governor Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the 2017 gubernatorial election in the state. Forward ever, backward never. EGBUNA AMUTA SA TO THE GOVERNOR ON MEDIA for GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION Sunday, January 1, 2017. http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/2017-anambra-guber-poll-there-is-no.html?m=1 lalasticlala 1 Like

Obiano the Coward. A man who couldn't even speak up against the massacre and human rights abuses of his own brothers and sisters in his own home, is worthless and far from being a leader. Ikemba would be rolling in his grave that this coward is presiding over affairs of Anambra, and even contemplating of a second tenure. 10 Likes |

PDJT:You are wrong. Obiano didn't speak out because he knew that 80% of those killed by the soldiers on the orders of Buhari are wawa people of enugu state while the remaining 20% were from abakaliki and Imo state. Anambra indigenes don't do Ipob as our people are always busy in their shops and markets and factories and are neither stupid nor have the time to confront soldiers with sticks and bare hands. You can re-check the names of the men that those soldiers killed in Onitsha. Not a single Anambra indigene was amongst them. They were bearing names like Onyia, Opara, Ugwu etc. 10 Likes 3 Shares |

PDJT: That can never happen with Ifeanyi Ubah as Governor. As a smart businessman, it's important to be close to enemies and friends to be able to know and control, so with IU as governor, impact can be made to avoid such killings due to closeness to the presidency. Ifeanyi Ubah is the choice for our great Anambra State. 10 Likes 2 Shares

Klinee:Mr man, if u are really from Anambra, then cover ur head in shame 4 attacking me 4 saying the bitter truth! When Abia and Enugu states were specifically targeting and laying off Anambra indigenes from their civil service, where was ur big mouth? Igbo unity my foot! Obiano is an Anambra patriot. The governors of the states whose indigenes came to Anambra to cause disturbance of the peace and were subsequently gunned down on the orders of Buhari should bury their dead and use the opportunity to call for the ICC to prosecute Buhari for pogrom instead of playing politics with it. Obiano organised a proper burial for all Igbos who died during the Biafran war soon after he became governor and no other governor in Igboland supported that laudable endeavour with funds or even their physical presence! Anambra is no longer 'Home for all'. Every state should start carrying their cross 1 Like |

As an Anambra man, I dont like Obiano because of his attitude towards the IPOB shootings. This is a man who should have stood up for his people when it mattared rather his insipid response when the Nigerian security forces turned themselves into cold blooded murderers in his state. However, I have to admit that Obiano is the best Governor in Igbo land and one of the best in Nigeria. He is most likely to win because no one can actually challenge him. APC is a highly despised party in Anambra, anyone they field has already failed. Nigige is not running, Ifeanyi Ubah has shown no indication that he intends to run, nobody knows if Chidoka will run under PDP and it is a known fact that the Ubah brothers literally own PDP in Anambra, they decide who the flag bearer is. Chidoka will have a hard time being PDP's flag bearer. Obiano is most likely to win 2 Likes |
