Most churches are very rich and I mean very rich, I see a lot of similarity between politicians and pastors they amass wealth and they don't really care, honestly in my own opinion churches should not even have money in their account after paying necessary bills paying pastors etc what use is money in a church's account when there are millions of hungry kids, millions of homeless people. I stand to disagree with you. Government should be held responsible for unfriendly industrial environment in Nigeria. Government mines & sells our oil without proper accountability to the citizens. Government still go ahead to Institute heavy taxes & dues on industries without considering the negative effects on employment. Now industries can't cope, resultant closures has set in. Government feels they are no more getting much from extortion due to few operating industries, now being envious of the men of God who labor heavily in marathon fasting & many nights of prayers intreating the Almighty to intervene in the lives of those frustrated by our government, studying the scripture ceaselessly to receive words of comfort for the hopeless due to bad governance, building hope & faith and telling those without god fathers nor long leg that they can make it with God. Testimonies are now erupting as the result of their hard work and government is now intruding. Why should churches pay task? Did the government provide any soft landing for them? A lot of government officials are sitting on the common wealth of the entire nations and are enriching their pockets & yet they are number one tax eveders. We have a government that reap where they do not sow. In this 21st century, Nigerian government can't boast of supplying clean table water to its citizens neither supply electricity to a reasonable length of time & yet come & see where they are pursuing petty women traders, extorting from them the little that isn't enough to put food on their table talk less burning fuel in her little tiger generator, all in the name of local & state government revenue. We have wolves as leaders. Let the government remove greed from their lives, Nigeria will achieve industrialization with the spirit of entrepreneurship burning in our youths.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUSPENDS CODE OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The Corporate Governance Code issued by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) has been suspended, pending a detailed review, extensive consultation with stakeholders and reconstitution of the board of the FRC

“Government remains committed to restoring and enhancing market confidence and improving the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria,” said Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah

He continued: “Government is committed to strengthening FRC and enhancing its capacity to fulfill its core mandate.”

FRC is one of the parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

The Council is responsible for setting and promoting compliance with standards for accounting, financial reporting and auditing in Nigeria. It also regulates the practices of professionals involved in financial reporting and promotes good practices in financial reporting and corporate governance in Nigeria.

"I could not resist talking about this, early today. The number of registered churches in Nigeria is 23,216 according to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. Note that these churches have branches. There may be over 2,000,000 documented church branches in Nigeria. Add to this, all the Mosques and undocumented religious houses all over Nigeria, we may be talking of 5,000,000. It calls for concern. Our major business in Nigeria presently is religion or faith marketing. Yet this business is tax free and enjoy free entry. Juxtapose this with the production base in Nigeria, you will see why we are a poor nation with all forms of recession. Last year there are just slightly about 1000 manufacturing companies still hanging out there in Nigeria. Many of them are even threatening closure. Some of the old factory premises have been converted to churches and Mosques. It is sad. That means that Pastor Barrister Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa was right afterall, the church is not ready to subject itself to accountability. People deceiving people. Where on earth have you heard that churches stopped government from registering any other business or creating enabling environment for businesses/industries to thrive?. What has church got to do with evil system of politicking, wicked tendencies of political office seekers and gullibility of the masses, than to fast and pray? How many churches in Nigeria go about sharing rice, money and T-shirt just to get members (even if it happens, will you not stop going there when they stop the goodies sharing?), rather most people go to church when they see signs and wonders, others for miracles, healing, deliverance and prosperity(only few are heaven minded). And lots of them had been testifying to the goodness and greatness of God(meaning that churches/mosques are shaping destinies and restoring hope). But what does your politicians give you during electioneering? Fake ambiguous promises, rice, 500Naira, pen, or a bottle of coke; so who's fooling who, the church or government.
If the truth must be told! Our youths should wake up from their slumber, do away with baba ijebu, sports betting, mmm, ballot box snatching, thuggery... and start being productive. That's the way forward and that's what I expect you to be preaching at this time not to lay blames on the corridors of the church and thereby further confusing the already confused few.
Please I advise you to take your time to study that "code" that has just been suspended, that's one of the things that has been killing businesses in Nigeria.

Register your own business and grow it, employ others and duplicate yourself or go open a church/mosque if you think its juicy and enriching.

The Obazee of a guy is biting more than he can chew. FRC has no business regulating more than finance and accounting of the various organisations!




So if he is dabbling into corporate governance of the various organisations, it is outside its mandate. He should have focused on the finances and how it is accounted for. Shikena. Moreso, this was the same guy used to scuttle SLS then. He made FGN to spend money on unnecessary litigation then which FRCN lost to SLS. Although, it was like a blessing in disguise for SLS as probably would not have been Amir of Kano without that conflict with GEJ government.!

FRC has been moving from litigation to litigation in trying to muscle several organizations. More so, his tenure has ended. It is already five years since his assumption of office!.


What FRC should have done, is to put strong regulations in place to control how the Churches and the other NGOs run their finances. It could even stipulate that no signatory to the finance books and account of the organisations (or be in charge of the money) can remain so for more than certain no of years. And even empower banks to implement same.
