tarboshi:exactly, praying for miracles for people to get healed and collect their offerings is enough...after which they can go sort out themselves at hospitals. Church = hypocrisy |

So, our able V.P. Professor Pastor Yemi Osinbajo convinced Buhari to sack the FRC boss for doing his job. That means that Pastor Barrister Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa was right afterall, the church is not ready to subject itself to accountability. People deceiving people. The church preaches moral but can never practice it, no wonder the COZA Pastor goes about sleeping with everything in skirt, Chris Okotie turns marriage to a bi-yearly activity and Chris Oyakhilome encourages masturbation, why then will the ineffectual buffoon Goatluck Jonathan not say that Stealing is not Corruption when he sees the Pastors stealing like Jesus needs money to spend in heaven. |

OBAGADAFFI:@ bolded, change that thinking. @ fresh graduate, don't be too sure. Working 8am to 5pm should not change one's commitment to church. Your point is people are in church because they have nothing doing and if they can have something doing, they will not be in church..... That's wrong and silly. You don't need to have a job to be creative. Instead of going to seek one miracle or prayer for job, why can't one be creative and engage in critical thinking in those hours. My point that many Nigerians can't think for and by themselves still remain. |

Stone03:Of course the government is culpable but I fully disagree with you and others who are against seguntijan. Nigerian religion actively contributes to corruption and the poor state of the nation. Religious leaders like Rev Martin Luther King stood up against the evils of the society in their time. Our religious leaders are nothing more than political tools to gather votes. Religious leaders have the moral responsibility to stand up and speak against corrupt politicians and evil acts in the society. But ours never do this. None of them have spoken against the death, starvation and humanitarian crises in the north east. None of the pentecostal leaders have spoken against Fulani herdsmen killings and called Buhari out on his lack of interest in solving any of these major crises. The best they can do is offer some pitiful donation that doesn't solve any problem. Why? Here is why. Churches and mosques receive lots of money from corrupt politicians and people. Your pastors don't refuse these corrupt "tithes, gifts and offerings". These makes them morally handicapped. They can no longer express their views even if they had one because they have collected stolen money... money meant for infrastructural development of the nation has been diverted into building megachurches and acquiring private jets. You and others have to face the fact. These religious leaders are morally corrupt, lack the transparency required of non-profit organizations around the world and ultimately contribute to the decay of societal values by advocating for miracles and "divine" favour (aka corruption and non-meritocracy) over hard work, honesty, critical thinking, questioning our leaders etc. |

aminulive:I can't understand. Someone should pls redirect me. It seems people have lost the thread of the topic. I read comments & asked question; are we on the same thread or FG vs E.A adeboye/RCCG? The headline is FG Suspends FRC Corporate Governance Code. How related is suspension of FRC corporate governance code and RCCG/Adeboye? They are talking about constituted body of FRC & people are talking as if it's reversal of the law implementation. I taya o! |

seguntijan:Your quote is spot on. However, the country itself is anathema to Industrialization. I decided to register my company with the CAC. It took me 5 days just to file the application! Some people I met there said it took them 2 weeks just to pay the N250 filling fees. So many bottlenecks, hindrances and obstacles. The World Bank yesterday said that Nigeria ranked 169th position out of 190 countries in on its Ease of Doing Business index for 2017.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/nigeria-ranks-169th-position-world-bank-ease-business/ We need a massive overhaul of our Governance Systems for things to really pickup in this country. In his book 'Flashes of Thought', the King of Dubai and VP & PM UAE - HRH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said once of his 2020 goals is to install systems that would create speedy and effective Government Operations; Business Registration included. Thing is, while the Royalties in other parts of the World, use their authority to foster progress and development, the ones in this country use theirs to enforce Sharia and marry 13 year old girls. I weep for this country and my ONLY prayer is that we can surmount all the challenges we are facing. Nigeria is more than what it is today and Nigerians deserve better than what they're getting today. |

yungeez:. I always get served this bull crap, even just this Sunday, a pastor reminded the congregation of how he got to Lagos with all his stuff in a nylon bag... They have the habit of serially reminding the congregation, how they went through hell... so what! Is that the reason they must now maintain a lavish life style or are they the only one that came to Lagos with one pair of shoe or all their possession in one nylon bag.. Is Christianity all about pay back time.. Gangstas think like that, we don't expect such feeling of entitlements from our so called men of God. I pray one day that one of the so called mega Pentecostal church would have the boldness to start publishing their annual account publicly... i would gladly port over to such a church. Dear God please give us truly God fearing leaders... Although a fantastically corrupt nation gets the kind of pastors and leaders they deserve. #God forgive and bless Nigeria! |

Eldee54321:Bros do you know that most of these GOs benefited from missionary schools or scholarships even when those missionaries barely managed to stay alive far away from their countries of origin. No matter what the churches contribute to society, it can never be enough. Asking what the govt has done is not a sound argument; the church is supposed to lead by example as the salt of the world and not the other way round. |

buchibrand:I feel zero joy seeing Churches buying run down factories, run down industrial complex... Asking Architects to remodel industrial complex built for productive venture into church complex. Churches jostling for prime space within areas designated as industrial parks.. This statistics should worry any serious government. The strength of a Nation is not anchored in the numbers of churches, but the productive capacity, the valued added of a Nations export... These are the indices that would attract foreign inflow of investment. |

The Obazee of a guy is biting more than he can chew. FRC has no business regulating more than finance and accounting of the various organisations! aminulive:So if he is dabbling into corporate governance of the various organisations, it is outside its mandate. He should have focused on the finances and how it is accounted for. Shikena. Moreso, this was the same guy used to scuttle SLS then. He made FGN to spend money on unnecessary litigation then which FRCN lost to SLS. Although, it was like a blessing in disguise for SLS as probably would not have been Amir of Kano without that conflict with GEJ government.! FRC has been moving from litigation to litigation in trying to muscle several organizations. More so, his tenure has ended. It is already five years since his assumption of office!. What FRC should have done, is to put strong regulations in place to control how the Churches and the other NGOs run their finances. It could even stipulate that no signatory to the finance books and account of the organisations (or be in charge of the money) can remain so for more than certain no of years. And even empower banks to implement same. |

KahlDrogo:You blame GEJ for every damn thing. You need enlightenment bro. The Act was passed into law in 2012. It requires a Committee to sit and promulgate a code. This code which contain the controversial sections of 20 years tenure for General Overseer was made in 2016. Read for yourself. https://www.naij.com/1081704-omokri-shows-evidence-prove-jonathan-didnt-create-controversial-frc-policy.html |

Laid2001:what you suggested is even an interference in Nigeria's dictionary. Seems the popular opinion wants government to leave religious houses on their own entirely. We just keep sacrificing transparency for politics, religion and ethnicity. |

Pebcak:America, UK, and the rest of the West are Christian countries and are all better than the ones you mentioned......the problem with your country is not the church but in the eternal wisdom of Achebe, leadership. ....Get the trouble with Nigeria by Achebe The church is not responsible for your education or infrastructure |

Pebcak:is church's money government money? how will you tax churches forcefully as a religion body to finance the alimajeris retirees? why not interview in the affair of the Muslims also? why cant Buhari himself retired? is he not too old? why cant Dangote retired , why all these anti Christian policies? why upload the photo of beggars in Kano mosque for what? do you even have sense? what are you trying to say? |
| Re: FG Suspends FRC Corporate Governance Code by Themandator: 10:28am On Jan 10, 2017 |
Montaque:Nobody is saying they should be left to harm the society ......every church or religious group has an accounting department ....his focus should have been how well that department has kept the books of account and not who or how long the head has been in place .....the calling of God is without repentance.....calling is not for 20 years but lifetime ....does he know better r than America and the rest of th world ......which nation interfere with the tenure of office of a spiritual leader that you didn't appoint or gave staff of office If what he did is right to you then traditional rulers should be relinquishing their office since they leader a non governmental organization or society, also |
| Re: FG Suspends FRC Corporate Governance Code by Montaque(m): 10:59am On Jan 10, 2017 |
Themandator:The NGO(church and mosque inclusive) all registered with CAC, and thus is amenable to government interference, though limited. They are managed by board of trustee and as much as you want to see it as a calling, there is politics in the management. They have gone ahead to forage into social and welfare sector, and they affect people in their duties. They should be amenable to interference aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency. The traditional leaders you mentioned don't need government to exist. Infact they are not registered or birthed by the CAC, unlike the Board of trustees that get their existence from registration. This issue is what a good organisation will put in place to ensure healthy organisation. Its because of the refusal that resulted into it being law. |
