In one breath they want to renovate the airport's runway, in another breath they want to repair the Abuja-Kaduna highway. my question is, is the government closing the highway too? |

Very good decision. In which normal country will an international airport be closed at all, not to mention for 6 good weeks. Like other international airports don't maintain their runways too ![]() Meanwhile that MMIA airport is a huge disgrace to this country |

skyo78:Thank goodness some people are still reasoning, rather than that paid agent ranting all over on the first page. Don't other airports all over the world do repairs? Has anyone ever heard of Heathrow closing down? |

kidman96:There is nothing wrong in fixing a bad runway, but it definitely can be done WITHOUT shutting down operations at the entire airport. People should rightfully blame Buhari because he appointed a Minister of Transport who doesn't know his left from his right. If he knew his job, and knew what international standards are involved in operating such airports, he won't be proposing such a useless suggestion of a full shut down. |

9jakohai:You mean do the right thing after 14 years, A runaway lifespan is 20 years and we should have done the maintenance work 2003, now we are just waking up 2017, do you know that the government budgeted 1bn for the repair and this so called Kaduna airport, we have to spend 1.1bn to upgrade it so that flight can be diverted to it, aside, Kaduna isn't safe and you expert foreign nationals to risk their lives...No way.... |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by totorimi: 3:54pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
For once I am beginning to have confidence in our senate again, I was thinking so this is how bubu and his kinsmen want to be doing their own corruption. Between Kaduna and Minna airport which one is closer to Abuja yet they selfishly diverted Abuja traffic to Kaduna, already rebuilding and upgrading the airport to international standard. Haba, how wicked and selfish can these guys be, do they take the rest of us as fools. If they are serious let them use the Minna airport, afterall its for six weeks no need to risk the lives of air flyers by making them ply the 2 hrs drive from Kaduna to Abuja. This clandestine move to upgrade KD airport is illegal period. |

kidman96:Mister, it doesn't take an aviation expert to know how things should be done in a proper manner. Let's stop making excuses for mediocrity, expand your mind, this is 2017. |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by ephi123(f): 4:00pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
mayoor15:Exactly. But also Nigerians, why should the Nigerian people put their lives at risk due to this kind of nonsense? Yet they will be shouting investors are not coming into the country, mschew. |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by Nobody: 4:00pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
mayoor15:Yes, it is sad that nothing was done in 14 years.....but it is a good thing that we are doing the right thing now. And as I said .....Abuja needs a second airport. It may not be safe in Kaduna.....but it is not safe either using a bad runway either...with the risk of accidents and getting banned by IATA for poor standards. (And Kaduna is not a ''awful'' place. My own worry is that the Airport there cannot handle international flights. ) |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by Nobody: 4:03pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
totorimi:Kaduna has a dual carriageway linking it with Abuja....as well as a direct rail link. Minna on the other hand is a single lane road after you turn off at Dikko.(Got lots of beautiful scenery along the way though). |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by me69: 4:04pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
Leopardd:no really. This is not their mandate |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by Nobody: 4:06pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
ephi123:Heathrow has 2 runways, and a third runway is planned. London also has two other airports at Stansted and Gatwick. Abuja has one runway. In a way....we are paying for years of bad planning. Abuja airport should have had 2 runways to begin with....and a proper railway link...plus a second airport. |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by totorimi: 4:09pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
9jakohai:The consideration should be safety, cost and time, so why go the long route if not for political consideration and if they are sincere with the time duration six weeks is just a little less than two months. Minna should be the best bet if they mean well. Minna is relatively safe and fewer police men and other secuirty will be needed to man the area unlike the deadly terrain of the Kaduna area, where you have boko, herdsmen, bubu's almajiri followers and angry shites members ready at the slightest promoting to unleash terror. |

DropShot:If you know how unsafe Kaduna is for int'l flights, you won't be saying this, again nobody shuts down an airport entirely just to repair a runway. God will definitely run your life the way Buhari is administering this country. If you are a zombie, not all Nigeria are. You can upgrade your script to zombie version 3.0. We careless. Your constant smuggling of that line where it is not even necessary is not only embarrassing, but depicts low self esteem and paranoia. Keep drooling in your stupidity. Goodluck |

| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by ephi123(f): 4:19pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
9jakohai:Yes I agree bad planning, but even if Heathrow had a single runway, they still would NOT close down the entire airport just for that purpose. For example the M25 as constantly busy as it is, has still been maintained and kept in shape without a full closure. Just doesn't make sense. They should be innovative abeg rather than this lazy man approach being taken. |

9jakohai:Then what stops the work been done at night and in portion, take a portion every night, regulate when flights come in and go out, put the whole 2.1bn in the project and complete it within 4-5 weeks |
| Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by mayoor15(m): 4:48pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
ephi123:Cos we don't do what is right at the right time, look at Abuja national stadium, we can't even use it to play international matches again, even the airport in PH, is also bad and is one of our 4 major international airports, but why will they even work self when we can't even maintain our refineries, this country is just so clueless hopeless and some people will want to die over some politicians... The so called Senate people shouting up and down is not for any reason other than they too will be affected, the fly out every weekend, how will they do that if the airport is closed knowing fully well how angry Nigerians are, most of them won't want to take the risk of moving from Kaduna to Abuja by road |
