Against the reports that Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) resigned as the General Overseer of the Church and appointed an Overseer for Nigeria, Bishop Francis Wale Oke of the Sword of Spirit Ministry, Ibadan, yesterday said that the renowned man of God neither resigned nor announced that he was stepping down as General Overseer.

Oke, who was a former National Vice Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) said this in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, at a meeting where Christian leaders from various denominations in some parts of the country resolved that suspension of the controversial Code of Corporate Governance formulated by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) by President Muhammadu Buhari was commendable, but that the offensive edict should be abolished completely.

The clerics at the media chat included Pastor Michael Amieye, President, Aggressive Faith International, Port Harcourt, Pastor Olumide Emmanuel, the Overseer, Calvary Bible Church Worldwide, Bishop Samuel Olumakinde Alawode, President, Maranatha Lord Cometh Ministry International, Prophet Funso Akande, Presiding Prophet, Gospel Promotion Outreach of Christ Apostolic Church, Ori Oke Abiye, Ede, Osun State and Rev. (Dr) Albert Oduwole, Presiding Pastor, Word Ablaze Missions International Triumphant Assembly Churches.

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for taking decisive action against the initiator of the edict which they said could trigger an unquenchable fire in the country, Bishop Oke who said that he had been a close confidant of the RCCG General Overseer since 1977 declared that Pastor Adeboye had not resigned neither had he stepped down.

Oke said: “I have sat down with Pastor E. A Adeboye and asked him questions. I wasn’t there when he made the declaration. One thing I know about him is that he does not tell lies.

He told me that he didn’t resign and that he didn’t tell anyone that he was resigning as G.O; didn’t announce that he was stepping down as the G.O. He told me that he was just doing the annual administrative duty they do in the church.

“For a church that has churches in 192 countries of the world to continue to grow, they should be doing constant review. He only said he wanted to do more work for the Lord and he has done so much in Nigeria, now he wants to concentrate on other nations of the world.”
