My advice is: avoid checking online availability. Create many possible unique names in your head, or write it down in a safe place. If you check a very unique/catchy domain name but you don't register it immediately or almost immediately, most hosting companies will register the name and sell it. If you are not buying, they sell to another person. But then, you have lost your most preferred website/blog name.

No, because you are a blogger doesn't mean you can randomly use any domain name.

Choosing a domain name is similar to choosing a company name — it requires a lot of thought and consideration. Your domain name is your identity on the web; you want to make sure you choose a name that not only fits your business, but is also easy to find and promote.

How to Choose Profitable Domain Name

Follow the steps below to help you pick the perfect domain name:
1. Make it easy to type
Finding a domain name that’s easy to type is critical to online success. If you use slang (u instead of you) or words with multiple spellings (express vs. xpress), it might be harder for customers to find your site.

2. Keep it short
If your domain name is long and complex, you risk customers mistyping or misspelling it. Short and simple is the way to go.

3. Use keywords
Try using keywords that describe your business and the services you offer. For example, if you’re a furniture replacement business, you may want to register FurnitureRepair.com or FurnitureReplacement.com.

Include the keywords that people enter when searching for your products or services.
It helps improve your rank on search engines (which increases traffic) and just makes more sense to your customers.

4. Target your area
If your business is local, consider including your city or state in your domain name to make it easy for local customers to find and remember. Example: LondonFurnitureRepair.com.

5. Avoid numbers and hyphens
Numbers and hyphens are often misunderstood — people who hear your website address don’t know if you’re using a numeral (5) or it’s spelled out (five) or they misplace or forget the dash. If you need these in your domain, register the different variations to be safe.

6. Be memorable
There are millions of registered domain names, so having a domain that’s catchy and memorable is essential. Once you’ve come up with a name, share it with close friends to make sure it sounds appealing and makes sense to others.

Quick solution: Got a great idea for a domain? Register your name today and put a website out there before someone else beats you to it.

7. Research it
Make sure the name you’ve selected isn’t trademarked, copyrighted or being used by another company. It could result in a huge legal mess that could cost you a fortune, as well as your domain!

8. Use an appropriate domain name extension
Extensions are suffixes, such as .com or .net, at the end of web addresses. These can have specific uses, so make sure to choose one that works for your business. The .com domain extension is far and away the most popular, but it can be tough to get a short and memorable .com domain name because it’s been around for so long.

A bevy of new generic top-level domains — like .photography, .nyc and .guru — offer a great opportunity to register short and highly relevant names. And here are some other top extensions and how they’re often used:

.co : an abbreviation for company, commerce, and community.
.info : informational sites.
.net : technical, Internet infrastructure sites.
.org : non-commercial organizations and nonprofits.
.biz : business or commercial use, like e-commerce sites.
.me : blogs, resumes or personal sites.

Pro tip: You don’t need to build a website for every domain. Just forward any additional domains to your primary website.

9. Protect and build your brand
To protect your brand, you should purchase various domain extensions, as well as misspelled versions of your domain name. This prevents competitors from registering other versions and ensures your customers are directed to your website, even if they mistype it.

10. Act fast
Domain names sell quickly. Thankfully, they’re also inexpensive, so register your favorite domain names as soon as possible.

Domain name is one of the great avenues to make money online. Apart from setting up a business, one can also make money buying and selling domain names and that's what am doing. domain name cost less than N3000 but you can resell it any amount when someone else is interested to buy it from you. I made my first domain sale for $550 dollars @ afternic, an international domain marketplace. this same domain I purchased for just $9.

To learn more about making money buying and selling of domain names visit this awareness thread @ www.Nairaland.Com/3430037/buying-selling-domains-really-profitable You can equally do more research on your own even outside the thread.

The Search for finding a good and perfect domain name starts when we are ready to get our business or blog online and that's the need of every business today as the Internet is the heart of every business now as the majority of people now prefer buying online while sitting in their room. People are running out of time and everyone is in the great hurry to get the multiple things done in short time so they prefer buying and booking orders online as it saves a lot of time. But there is much more you need to know before setting your business online which starts from buying A Good Domain Name which will differentiate your business from others' and make you stand out.
10 Things To Know Before You Buy A Domain Name

1. Checking Availability:

The crucial step it is before you start working your ass off on building a business with the unique name, check online for the availability of the domain name for your business name. It may happen that it is already taken by someone else around the globe so ultimately you will end up losing your best choice of a domain name for your business. You may also check for expired domains which are recently expired and not registered yet by going here www.expireddomains.net.

2. Extension:

Main Top Level Domain(TLD) names are domains with .com, .net, .org, .info extensions, where .com remains the most used extension which is for Commercial Purpose. It is strongly recommended that you use a ".Com" domain name extension for your business as it fits the best and gets rankings in search engines all over the world. But in case your Business is Local, then do read 4th Point.

3. Short-lengthed:

Keep your domain name as short as possible. The shorter it is the better. Keep a good combination of your name and your business name or your goals and business name. Try different variations and pick the one which satisfies you. Keep its length up to less than 10 characters.

4. Location or Targeted Area:

If your business is local then consider buying a Top Level Country domain name ie. your-business-name.com.ng or your-business-name.ng for Nigeria and your-business-name.co.in or your-business-name.in for India and so on. Then your website/blog will get higher rankings in that particular country where it is your targeted audience.

5. Easy to Type and Remember:

Now just think of some big players around the web like as Facebook, Wikipedia, and Amazon. Did you get it..? These names are simple, short and eye catchy which are easy to type and remember. We fall short here because a look at our domain names seems awful, isn't it..? we were not opportune to get this tips you are reading while buying.

6. Use Keywords:

It is very important from the point of view of SEO for your domain name. Try to have the main keyword for your business included in your domain name by which people will use to search online.

7. Avoiding Hyphens or Numbers:
If possible, avoid using hyphens or numbers in your domain name. It works best if there is no hyphen or number in a domain name. But if you got no choice, you can use a hyphen which is far better than not having it at all. Be creative and I bet you would come up with better options available.

8. Protecting Your Brand:

Now if you have registered your domain name with a .com or any other extension, now its time to protect your brand name from your competitors. Because by the time when your business will get popular, competitors will get their hands to steal your audience by registering the same domain name with the other extensions available. So this time, be ready to buy all other major TLD's and make a redirect to your main domain name.

9. Checking For Registered Trademarks:

Before Registering your domain name for the business, do check if someone already has already registered the trademarks on that or not. If you are unable to get my point then you must Google "Microsoft vs. MikeRoweSoft" case. Do not infringe the copyrights of other people and stay away from serious trouble.

10. Expanding Capability:

Do not purchase a domain name which makes your business be limited. In future, your business may expand and include a wide range of products. Do not make your blog/website a single product/niche based ie. BabyGirlShoes.com is limited To Baby Girl Shoes only so what if you start selling other baby girl products in future..?

Conclusion:

Above I tried my best to explain the Things To consider Before You Buy A Domain Name. These tips are the base for buying a good domain name and I hope you got something new from this post. I might have left some other important points so feel free to ask in comments and we will try to include them in our list.
