The European Union has disclosed that 42 Nigerian foods are not good for the health, prompting the EU to stop the importation of these foods into EU countries.
The foods include; brown and white beans, melon seeds, palm oil, mushrooms, bitter-leaf, pumpkin leaves, shelled groundnut, smoked catfish and crayfish.
Others are live snails, prawns, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds, dried meat, dried fish and peanut chips.

Irohinoodua gathered that the breakdown of data from the European Commission Rapid Alert System showed that some of the contaminated and substandard food products from Nigeria were discovered in EU countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Greece, Finland and Italy.
The EU discovered that the some of the food items after analyses were glass fragments, rodent excrements and dead insects. It also noted that the high levels of chemical contaminants, some of which were used in fumigation, like aluminium phosphide, dichlorvos, dimethoate, trichlorphon, cyhalothrin, were also discovered in the products.
The EU added that microbes such as salmonella, aflatoxins and mould growth were also discovered in some of the products.
All these chemical contaminants found in these food items poses risk to human health, which are hazardous.
The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service has also intensified its effort at quarantining agricultural produce for local consumption and export.

Package your products with proper care and better hygienic conditions.

Abeg dey shld jus go ahead and kip quiet, bunch of hypocrites. Dis report is embarrassing and completely misleading. No doubt most of our items for exports are poorly processed and preserved especially for exports due to a whole number of reasons but is dat enof to claim Nigerian fuds are not gud for human health? We wey dey eat am are we animals? No doubts crying out over the state of items imported is quite understandable but their stance is totally misleading. Basically all d issues raised boils down to preservation and packaging of these items to survive both the weather and period of time. It now falls on the relevant bodies to enlighten the farmers and reps involved on proper preservation and processing for exports.
