These dudes and thier forebears have converted what is essentially a trainer into a potent ground attack aircrafts. We're talking about guys who have been carrying out strike missions for the past 23 years.

We also seem to have an unending pool of young pilots. It seems like there's a pilot making factory somewhere at TAC or Kaduna.

How do you express your affection for someone, I guess one of the ways is to send them presents.

Good news for Denel: Finland's Hamina-class fast attack crafts will be getting a mid-life upgrade between 2019-2021 which will see their current Denel Umkhonto SAM upgraded to the Umkhonto EIR -with a range of 35km and incorporating a locally developed radome (we're one of less than 10 countries able to develop radomes).

Wait, there's more: around the same time, Finland's Navy will also take into service four multipurpose OPVs which will also be fitted with the Umkhonto EIR.

Sometimes I wonder why some countries arm their OPVs like FAC's. Azerbaijan also does same.

u implied under armed i think .....

let me explain

there is increasing tendency to underarm naval vessels contrary to their tonnage because

1.most of these vessels r intended for regular day to day duties , like patrolling , escorting not very far from the base most of the time. all these cost money and resources which need to be minimized.

2.most of these vessels come fitted for weapons like short range AShMs , pedestal mounted AAMs (even VLS cells for point defence SAMs etc) , higher calibre RCWS , torpedo launchers etc.
however maintaining installed/fitted weapons is a expensive job cutting into man hours / require skilled human resource on-board as well. installed weapons have a shorter shelf life and need periodic testing onboad/off shore. even cannisterized weapons with BITE installed need this .

3.not having missiles/explosives/torpedoes cuts down the safety risks considerable when ur doing the day to day patrolling , escorting duties etc etc. also in the first place the vessels r equipped with organic weapons which caters to their normal duties as well in war time scenarios as applicable.

4.however in cases of national emergency the vessels which r fitted for all kinds of relevant weaponry can be quickly armed in a matter of days at the naval bases.

5.most of these (all) of these vessels r secondary vessels which complement the primary vessels like frigates destroyers etc , most of the time the targeting data for the weapon launch from these secondary vessels will be provided by the primary vessels though networking etc etc.
inshort the secondary vessels will feed into the surveillance , command and control , networking infrastructure of the primary vessels to co-operatively engage the enemy with their organic + fitted for weapons.

I don't know how they are doing it but those flight schools are really pumping out the right type of guys, some really extraordinary men.

Anything government touches would turn to dust. I don't agree with government having a stake. What i however think is, government can fund 2 or 3 projects, say an APC/MRAP and an IFV.


Proceeds gained from the sales can be shared by the company and government.

I agree with you, the FG should only fund projects, MRAP is already done. for the next best thing will be a tracked chassis just enough to be at the same level of Uk Warrior ( 25 tons ) an AFV cn be turn in to so many variant ( APC IFV SPG Anti Air etc ), and when you look at our current inventory you will see that we have at least 450 tracked AFVs this will be a good investment. ( JUST ONE OF MY DREAMS )

I kinda agree with you. We have at least 450 tracked AFV/APC that are due for a replacement . An up armoured vehicle like the warrior would be a great replacement.

My preference for a wheeled vehicle is because I don't think Proforce has shown the capacity to build a tracked vehicle.

Gambia! Where is Gambia? Gambia is a tiny West African country with a total population of not more than two million people, 90 percent of which are Muslims and 8 percent Christians. A usually peaceful country, with beautiful countryside scenery. Gambia has a total land mass of 4,127 sq. mi, making it the smallest country in mainland Africa completely surrounded by Senegal.

Recently, the country has been embroiled in an internal crises. The current president Mr. Yahya Jammeh who lost the just concluded general election to Mr. Adama Barrow with about 51,000 votes, defeated Yahya initially concede defeat and placed an iconic call to the president elect Mr Adama Barrow. But few days later Mr. Yahya made a public announcement that he will not step down and demanded a rerun of the general election. Mr. Jammeh has been in power for 22 years after a bloodless military coup in 1994.

President elect Adama barrow has called on Mr. Jammeh to engage in direct talks. Mr. Jammer’s term officially ends next Wednesday. He has challenged the election results in court.
Foreign leaders from Ecowas met at The Gambia to try to persuade Mr. Jammeh to step down.
The group has warned that it will consider military force if he doesn’t step down as scheduled.

However, Nigeria has taken the lead in pressuring Mr. Yahya while the country's House of Representators has even went a step further to offer him a political sanctuary in Nigeria if the need arises. Nigerian president Mr. Muhammad Buharu has been very vocal in asserting his demands. Initial reports from the Nigerian local newspapers surfaced that Nigeria has raised multiple battalions for immediate forward deployment to the Gambia which was later denied by the military.

This type of military deployment is not new to the Nigerian military since it has conducted similar operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone few years back. Although diplomatic approach is currently being used in resolving the crises but if it fails, would Nigeria and Ecowas be willing to use military force? Nigeria which is one if Africa’s most powerful country and the obvious regional superpower has always been a staunch supporter of democracy and the rule of law.

Boko Haram members have slain another soldier who worked painstakingly to protect the territorial integrity of the Nigerian state.

Another Nigerian soldier, Bisong Otu has lost his life during a shoot out between the Nigerian army and Boko Haram members. According to the Facebook user, George Odok, who shared the news, Bisong hailed from Bansan village in Boki LGA of Cross River State. He wrote on his Facebook wall; “Gallant soldier Bisong Otu from Bansan village in Boki LGA of Cross River State met his utimely death during an exchange of fire with the embattled Boko Haram sect in Borno.
