And those are 2012 figures! For my peace of mind I'll refrain from looking up latest figures.

Also did you notice that the EU only said they'll pay Burundian soldiers directly and not through the govt? If Nkurunziza cared about the mission or Somalia, he wouldn't have withdrawn the troops.
Despots don't care about anybody apart from themselves and their cronies.

The Burundian troops have contributed immensely in the overall AMISOM operation. It might be difficult to get replacements if they leave the theater.

Not exactly Africa but, Dutch commandos in Mali.

In my opinion, I think we do need vehicles like this in Nigeria. It is becoming more and more apparent.

Exactly what I've been saying all along.
And since the AU doesn't have the funds to re-imburse Kenya and other AMISOM participating countries, they went begging to the EU and the US. Both those entities aren't funding because of the milk of human kindness, but for realpolitik self-interest.
And since he who pays the piper plays the tune, there's a price to pay should the participating countries refuse either to dance, or get it into their heads that they'd prefer a taraab tune to the piper's waltz. As Burundi has just found out.

Trump's team has also just asked the State Department to justify why the US continues to fund AMISOM after 10 years "with no Al-Shabaab defeat".

The moral of the story: the African contribution to the AU's funds cannot continue to be funded by mainly 4 countries: Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa. 50 countries collectively pay about $40 million (with many still in arrears) whilst the 4 pay over $250 million! Of course Gaddafi used to pay for some of them so that they'd vote for his mad schemes, but that era is gone.

That's before we even ask why the AU should be funded by donors!
thats the way of the world, thats how it has always worked with other bodies, including the EU and even the UN.... what you are sujjesting would have to be a completely different and innovative way.......which is hard to achieve with such a contine tal body, there will never be any agreement from member countries....... those 4 countries you've mentioned account for like 60% of Africas GDP..
rich countries with higher GDP have always beenthe ones paying higher fees, and since Africa is relatively poor, that is not enough ...... e.g 129 countries of rhe UN fund only 1.5% of the UN overal budget! 17 countries in the world fund 81% of UN! the US alone accounts for 22% of the UNs funding, without US,Japan, germany, france, britain and china the UN is essecially Broke.........

its ideally nice and it will be a big source of pride if the AU could fully fund it self so that atleast African daughters and sone can have some dignityrestored..... but things are not always as easy as we would want them to be

BTW, trump should ask himself how many years the US has been in middleast, and if they were to go back 14 years and compair it to now, have they made things better or is is the worst time ever for peace inm.east? somalia had no govt at all, its now setting up its own systems and about to have a democratic election.... it has been done with a mediocre budget and with less manpower... all the US has done is made things worse in m.east, exoprted there weapons , then they made sure to fortify homeland back at home to make sure non of it comesback to bite them in the a$$

Older model of a Nigerian built Law Enforcement LAV. This vehicle is no longer been built. It has been replaced by the vehicle in photo 3.

The improvements made a unmistaken and apparent.

Dumb American. Who cares what the paid, "brown envelope reporter" has to say.

The Americans who had the coordinates to an MSF hospital in Afghanistan, flying in 4+ GEN, Super Hornets, yet them bombed it.

Today's bombing shows that Forward Air Controllers are irreplaceable in combat. You can have all the Targeting/Recon PODS in service but a Recce unit close by directing airstrikes is just as vital.

Funny, the 2016 operational appraisal report shared by the Air Force did state that the training of additional Forward Air Controllers is an operational necessity for 2017.

It is also important to maintain the current tempo of training, with greater attention given to the training of Special Forces personnel and Forward Air Controllers.

Plans set for Flintlock 2017 exercise
Military officers from across Africa, North America and Europe finalized plans for Flintlock 2017, AFRICOM’s annual exercise for Special Operations Forces, to be hosted by seven African nations starting in late February.

Flintlock will bring together approximately 2,000 service members from more than 20 African, European and North American partner nations. The Flintlock exercise series is U.S. Africa Command's premier Special Operations Forces training event and will be hosted by Burkina Faso, Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.

The three-week exercise is designed to strengthen the ability of key partner nations in the region to protect their borders and provide security for their people. Additionally, the exercise bolsters partnerships between African, European and North American Special Operations Forces increasing their ability to work together in response to future crises.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our nation’s military to strengthen our relationship with our neighbors,” said Chad Army Brig. Gen. Zakaria Ngobongue, the Flintlock exercise director. “It is also a chance for us to be involved in the community during civil military outreach events involving medical and veterinary services.” (translated from French)

As home to the exercise’s multinational headquarters, Chad will host more than 800 service members from more than 20 nations.

“This years’ exercise is the most robust and diverse we have planned,” explained U.S. Army Col. Kelly Smith, the Special Operations Command - Forward North and West Africa commander and exercise director for American forces. “African partner nations have seen the value in this type of regional approach. Combatting the spread of violent extremism and protecting the population requires the type of comprehensive, multi-national approach Flintlock is designed to foster.”

While primarily focused on military training, Flintlock will also feature several humanitarian, medical and veterinarian outreach events in local communities across Chad and other host countries. During the planning conference, U.S. and Chadian officials were able to also celebrate the completion of a small training building and an additional parking ramp for transport aircraft to support the exercise.

“This is the third time Chad has hosted the Flintlock exercise. With multiple hosts, this year will truly test our ability to coordinate across borders,” added Ngobongue. (translated from French)

Participating nations are scheduled to include Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Chad, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States.

Destination Gambia or Senegal? Will she be cleared to stay at a naval base in The Gambia without the base being in control of friendly forces?

The ship would be off the Coast of Gambia. If things escalate, which I doubt would happen the boat stands ready to support with 76mm's.

It's hard to say, out at sea is more like it.

It seems 2 Nigerian Alpha jets and a Survelliance plane would soon depart for Senegal. Unconfirmed at this point.

None of them would be dumb enough to shoot at a Nigerian air craft. Most countries in the region don't have an air force.

As I had said they would when I first posted his video earlier, we all know what will happen to the captives. Police stations are to be targeted as the cells are independent: need to replenish ammo, do not have wall, barriers, or any kind of fortifications, anyone can walk though without being searched,....
