Henry240:In international politics, gunboat diplomacy (or "Big Stick ideology" in U.S. history) refers to the pursuit of foreign policy objectives with the aid of conspicuous displays of naval power—implying or constituting a direct threat of warfare, should terms not be agreeable to the superior force.[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunboat_diplomacy Grey Ambassador is the term used to describe a Naval vessel being used in a diplomatic role. Grey because of the hull as well as the ambiguous implications of using a military vessel for diplomacy. |

NAF DEPLOYS TO SENEGAL TO ENFORCE ECOWAS MANDATE IN THE GAMBIA The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed to Senegal as part of Nigerian contingent of Economic Community of West African States Military Intervention in Gambia (ECOMIG) – a standby force tasked by ECOWAS Heads of State to enforce the December 1, 2016 election mandate in the The Gambia. The NAF today moved a contingent of 200 men and air assets comprising fighter jets, transport aircraft, Light Utility Helicopter as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft to Dakar from where it is expected to operate into Gambia. The deployment is also to forestall hostilities or breakdown of law and order that may result from the current political impasse in The Gambia. Addressing the contingent before departure, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar urged the troops to maintain discipline and be professional in their conduct. Reminding them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, the CAS stated that no act of indiscipline by the contingent would be tolerated. The contingent, led by Air Cdre Tajudeen Yusuf, was airlifted this morning from 117 Air Combat Training Group Kainji. Other troop contributing countries include Senegal, Ghana and countries within the sub-region.

jakeporeshenko:The mobilisation is stellar. What the military has done is not to make noise, but quietly get to work. Before we could spell Tayo, NNS Unity was already close to the Ivory Coast, NAF had mobilised and 800 troops were on standby. The whole deployment is beautiful. Nigeria has so far deployed, - NNS Unity - 1 x Beechcraft ISR plane - 2 x Alpha jets light attack jets - 1 x Agusta A109 LUH - 3 x C-130 - 200 ground troops from the Air Force - 800 Soldiers on standby. The Nigerians are not coming, they have actually arrived!! 'Oya Jammeh come and be going ' ![]() |

jteku:I guess NA personnel will be air lifted by NAF while equipment would go via merchant shipping. |

Henry240:this insurgency has really thought NAF the importance of proper ISR, I'm pretty sure 2 more C-130 will join in on the logistics. the navy can also contribute troops. |

africaken254:All this rubbish happening because a man who has spent 22 years in power simply refused to go. Even Nigeria offered him asylum. He probably would have been living like a boss in beautiful Calabar by now. All those tourists and thier dollars leaving the country. The Americans and British might get involved. |

Odunayaw:I disagree with a military intervention in Gambia. I believe a political settlement should have been reached. However from a purely military stand point, Nigeria's deployment is commendable. Especially when you consider the Mali debacle in 2013, when Nigeria was very slow to respond. |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 7:52pm On Jan 18, 2017 |
jakeporeshenko:Exactly, now we don't go anywhere without our ISR platforms. The deployment is kinda similar to what we had in Mali. In Mali we deployed. - 1 x ATR-42 ISR plane - 2 x MI-24v - 2 x Alpha jets - 1 x C-130 - 1 x G-222 |

Katyusha:your C-130 can only carry about 20 tonnes, while a T-72 is more than 40 tonne.you can ship them like we did when,we carried out an amphibious landing on kismayu |
