Speed limits should be enforced on all vehicles, The roads should be repaired.... and if our trains were really functioning there would be less cars on the road too.

There seem to be too many grammatical blunders in your write-up.For example,it is "these dudes" and not "this dudes", it is "much safer" and not "more safer",etc.
Now,how do you want me to take your points seriously, especially when they came from your 'brilliant' brain?

before you entered attacking mode why didn't you check the punctuation in your own post.

you don't hit your space bar well.

Leave the bad roads. Most accidents in this part of the world (Nigeria) is due to excessive speeds and reckless driving. Bad roads would curb the zeal to speed!
My dear, bad roads contribute a lot to motor accidents. You are forgetting that people drive at night in a country that has no street lights. How easy is it to navigate a road with pot holes and gullies at night? How easy is it to navigate a road during raining season with the pot holes and gullies covered with water? Besides, with the kind of traffic congestions on our roads, where exactly can one over speed and at what time?

I understand, but sometimes it just gets to me they way people race on good/relatively good roads. Accidents happen, yes, but I just feel our attitudes are drivers/commuters would help check these occurence.

Neighbouring countries, Benin/Togo/Ghana, drive with so much sanity that I wonder oh why naija?

The way traffic accidents are increasing in Nigeria is getting alarming ,the funny thing is that most of it can be avoided .The question is what can we do about it ? .

1.Fix The Bad Roads
This is more than obvious ,the bad roads have to be fixed .Huge pot holes are still visible on some major roads .To reduce accidents ,first the government has to get the roads fixed .

2.Traffic Lights
Its so sad that some major areas in Lagos for example ,don’t still have traffic lights in round-abouts and junctions. When the traffic lights are there, some of them don’t even work.To prevent accidents traffic lights need to work and using them have to be enforced.A lot of folks skip traffic lights and are not penalized for it ,because there is no adequate monitoring system (cameras) .

3.Truck Restrictions

Out of every 10 accidents about 6 are linked to trucks and tankers. Trucks and tankers should be restricted to move only at night .It would drastically reduce accidents on the road.

4.Use Of Trains
Trains are more safer according to statistics, the possibility of a train getting involved an accident is very low.Trains should be used especially for flammable substances.I think they should also be used to transport livestock,I am tired of seeing cows loose their lives .I know there is inadequate railway channels to accommodate this plans ,so adequate railway system should be put in place as well.

5.Restriction Of Herdsmen
This dudes just do any how and in some major roads , they come out from nowhere with their cows .There are cases where it has caused accidents. If there are restrictions on certain roads(especially major roads) it would help.

6.Imposing Maintenance
I know this sounds crazy ,but what if maintenance on a regular basis is imposed ,it would drastically reduce the rate of accidents .To make it more effective ,there should be a steep fine for defaulters .

7.Speed Limiters
I think speed limiters would also help a lot especially in Danfo buses .

I know you have some things to add ,kindly comment and share too.

All you listed are vital but the one I marked bold is a bit of a stretch. It makes absolutely no sense to restrict trucks or any vehicle for that matter, to a particular time of the day. It is like vehicle curfew. It is illogical. One of the benefits of having a vehicle is unrestricted movement. You can move yourself or goods from destination to another at any time.

Of course, you're right that trucks and tankers cause most of the crashes but it has nothing to do with the time of the day. It has everything to do with the truck drivers! Most Nigerian truck drivers are totally incompetent to drive trucks or any heavy duty vehicle!

In advance societies, driver licences are issued according to the type of vehicle you wish to use it for and you must go through a stringent process - driving exams both in theory and practical before the licence is issued. Unfortunately, this process is nonexistent in Nigeria. Anyone can obtain a driver license in Nigeria without even physically going to the license office! What a shame!

Our corrupt politicians travel to civilized societies a lot and yet don't implement in Nigeria what they see in Western countries!. When they're "sick" they rush to the best hospitals in Western countries and yet do nothing about hospitals in the country that in terrible condition!

Until govt. starts implementing good driver license process and the items in your list, vehicle crashes will only worsen.

Note: Use car crash instead of car accident. Almost all crashes stem from driver behavior like drinking, distracted driving and other risky activity. Human recklessness can't be an accident. Few are caused by vehicle malfunctions, weather and other factors.
