How does one pay for service not rendered? Provide the power first, then negotiate for increase in tariff. You bought the companies after bidding, now put up or shut up. |

duni04:So why was there poor power during yaradua and Jonathan's regime since the "miscreants" in the creeks were not blowing pipelines then? |

989900:Did you take the phone (Samsung, Nokia, BlackBerry, Infinix, Tecno, etc) away before you paid the seller? Did MTN / Airtel /Etisalat / Glo allow you make the calls before you bought the credit? Without paying the right price for services, those services would not improve. Recollect people paid upwards of 20K to MTN and Airtel to ensure that investments were made in the telecomms sector that has now made it affordable for people to buy it at N200. Nobody said the services should be available across Nigeria before MTN and Econet could sell their 20K+ SIMS back then, they were allowed to roll out in Lagos, Abuja, PH and Kano! The question to ask Nigerians is simple: Where else are we paying the same prices we were paying prior to the oil price crash and devaluation? Why should we want to continue paying the same tariff for electricity as if that sector is not affected by happenings across the nation's economy? |

Agozie48:Look at this idiot. You're attacking me and have said nothing about my post, if its right or wrong. That's how fools behave. There's clearly a misconception out there about the power sector and I'm trying to correct it. Instead of agreeing or disagreeing with my points, you're here talking crap. Idiot! Is it a lie that militants are blowing up pipelines? Is it a lie that dangote is building a refinery in Epe that will be commissioned in 2019 and that will cater to all our petroleum needs? Then what the hell is wrong with my post? Bloody fool! |

Agozie48:I quoted someone on something I felt was wrong and this fool jumped in from no where, without even talking about any of the points I raised, and called me an idiot. I can yell you had lousy parenting as a child. I can also tell you're a fool in real life and and away from the internet. Pathetic idiot. Very empty on issues but very vocal with insults. You haven't contributed anything tangible to this thread. Bastard child of a ho |

duni04:Lol@ misinformation. I don't know how old you are, but I 've been hearing everything you just enumerated for years. Same stale arguments every time. By the way, do you elect governments to keep telling you what the problems are or to solve them. And if you are pained because you feel this is about the Buhari government, then you have missed the point. And did Dangote start building the refinery because subsidy was removed? The problem is that of sheer incompetence whether of this government or previous ones. Whose job is it it to stop the "idiots" you mentioned from blowing up pipelines? My aged mother's ? |

Chiefpriest1:I'm sorry but exactly how many years are we talking about because the power sector was just privatised 3 years ago. Dangote has been building his refinery for 4-5 years now. As regards the situation in the ND. Nobody knows exactly how to deal with it. We move the military in and some fools turn it into a north vs ND thing and start writing petitions to the UN claiming genocide. We adopt a softer approach and yet another group of fools turn it into an "incompetence issue". There is no template for the type of unrest we have in the ND. Its unique to only this part of the world. No where in the world can you find a group of people as foolish, narrow minded, greedy and short sighted as those people in the ND. People who would rather steal 1naira today than invest it and turn it into 1 trillion naira tomorrow. |

duni04:Seems we are on a parallel here. If you were the owner of a company. You hire a new Managing Director to turn around your ailing business. You pay his salaries, he has a private jet to move anywhere he wishes. He has free accommodation, free food. In fact free everything. Almost two years after hiring him, he's still giving you one million reasons why things are getting worse, not even better. You see movement, but no progress. How would you rate yourself if you keep retaining him as your MD. Again, back to those " idiots ". Buhari is the C-in-C. He gets intelligence reports on a daily basis. He has the full complements of the DSS, police, army, navy, air force, FRSC, NSCDC etc, yet you want me to rather keep quiet or blame my village if a rag-tag group of boys decide to take the laws into their hands. If he decides to go soft, he can decide to hire the best negotiators in the world, the best development experts he can get etc. So, what's his problem. I never made excuses for Jonathan, I will not make excuses for Buhari. He's the president. The buck stops right at his desk. |

Chiefpriest1:I'm sorry but your anecdote won't work here. You need to understand the issues before you even attempt to make any kind of evaluation. What were the constraints of achieving stable power before privatization? Inadequate generation, the little we generated we couldn't transmit because of poor transmission infrastructure, then distribution network and infrastructure was in the abyss. Generation stations were built in the past without anyone thinking about the gas that would power them. Someone built a generating plant in an obscure location with no gas pipelines to supply gas. Do you build pipelines across thousands of kilometers overnight? Then gas itself. The few generating stations that were built were powered by pipelines that were stupidly routed to restive areas. All this happened before privatization. Escravos - Lagos pipeline which supplies Egbin is always breached every other day. Same as other generating stations. These are historical mistakes that were made before privatization. Even if we want to reroute the pipelines to more stable areas, which we can't afford at the moment, that'll take years to accomplish. The only way forward is peace in the ND. Those idiots must be made to understand that when they blow up pipelines, they themselves will be in darkness. Buhari cannot force an ideology of peace into the mindset of those people who are criminals by blood. You cant wage war against entire ethnic groups because of oil and gas. They must be made to understand that if they blow up anything, they'll lose too. |

duni04:Another brainwashed fellow spotted.... If government removed only subsidy, how much was the subsidy payment before its removal? Come to think of it, didn't the government claimed that the word "subsidy" was a scam? Why removing what never existed? They claimed that #12.00 was the subsidy cost, how can u reconcile #12.00 plus #87.00/ltr with #145.00/ltr? For your info, gov didn't just remove subsidy but they fixed a higher tax on PMS and other oil products to generate fund not minding the ripple negative effect it will create on the economy. May God help us out this economic woes and hardship |
| Re: Senate Rejects Subsidy, Tariff Hike For Power Sector by duni04(m): 2:49pm On Jan 26, 2017 |
kulrunsman79:Another ignorant and sad fellow. Instead of sitting down to understand the underlying figures and stats, you're here making up figures from your head. The scam in the subsidy was that marketers were collecting money for cargoes that were not delivered. They were also overstating the volume of their cargoes to get more subsidy money from the government. It was for this very reason that those some subsidy thieves were sentenced to prison today. The subsidy was removed last April and marketers were given the leeway to import the product on their own. The only thing the government, through the PPPRA, did was to place a cap on the amount of profit the marketers can make, like the NERC does to DISCOS or the NCC does to telcos with voicecalls and data. The problem now is that marketers have been unable to access forex to import the product themselves, so the NNPC has been doing most of the importation and selling to the marketers. |

duni04:Lol.... Pls ask Osinbajo, u think d ND leaders are asking 4 ur money? Just run amok from post to post saying balderdash! PMB said more than this b4 coming into power he even called dem thieves using govt money to sabotage d country. His notion changed ASAP, I won't tell u why. Now d ND is occupied by 3 categories of thieves.. The vandals, d govt (by extension security agencies) and the IOCs! Do u know what it means to allow exploration on ur soil? Coupled wif d fact dat they heavily militarize d place so even ur old men have to pass wif dea hands up. In fact in some parts, it is said dat d best thing 4 u as a youth is to become a militant/vandal because when army show whether u join or not them go carry u go kill. If u join, u would be rich and still get amnesty. I won't tell u all because dis is a public forum but ask urself "if d present ND occupants wea to b reborn, do u think dey would agree to come 4rm d oil rich region?" Even d allocation is flawed, in fact I don't want to insult u and ur thrashy submission, tell PMB to implement PIB and let's have resource Ctrl. Ur headache is not the ND, rather the FG is d prob of d ND |
