Due to women's closerness to children.
When men provide food for their family it is still women that will share same to children taking more glory than men.

Right from childhood, after every meal, I go to my mother to say thank you and not to my father; I always thank my mum for preparing the food but NEVER thanked my dad for providing it. Not fair!

Agree with this completely. Nigerian society is a society that caters to the men. Therefore, their roles as fathers, roles that should go beyond being the "provider," is very limited. Most fathers do not make any attempts to emotionally connect with children, make themselves available and accessible, and take no interest in their children and who they are as individuals. And we, as a people, continue to let this happen with holding fathers to a higher standard.

I have a male friend who is determined to ensure that his children love him more than the mother. I have another friend who stated he'll get to know his children over the weekend. It makes me cringe every time when I hear things like this because neither of these kinds of statements should be a motivation for you as a parent. It took the two of you to make the children so both parents need to be involved as equitably as possible.

First, paying for the bills and expenses [b]does not [/b]equate to an emotional and quality relationship with your children. When kids are young, they don't notice who pays the bills or whatever, they notice who feeds them, who plays with them, who gets them dressed in the mornings, who reads to them, who attends their school functions. (And to add, a father shouldn't be handling all the bills by himself. These gender roles in Nigeria, for men and women, need to go).

Second, there are plenty of absentee fathers in Nigeria who don't necessarily walk out but are barely involved in their children's lives.

Third, a child will love which parent they want and how they go about it.

No doubt.... the mothers are the main reason for that kind response. The main reason for the main reason is the mother chose to sleep with one of the few irresponsible men. Taking the silver medal .... the mother spends more time with the child while the father is out there hustling....she takes this opportunity to fill the child with all sorts of negative stories about the father.... transfering the dislike or hatred. The bronze medal goes out to the mothers again..... those who squander housekeeping money and tell the children their fathers want to starve them....brainwashing from birth!

Popsie messed up big time while growing up. Though he provided us with our basic needs, the guy na chronic womaniser who beats mum at the slightest provocation.mum later found out he had two kids with another woman outside probably married to the woman sef which he denied till mum died obviously from a broken heart after dad later confirmed that they were his kids. Made us love mum more even in death and now that we are allll grown, we no too send the man cos of all the pains he caused mum. Men sef!

Too bad I can't reveal everything on social media. Currently, in Nigeria, many mothers are the financial backbone of the family. The fathers are, as you said, the male role figures. They are trying, but many mothers are wiser with money, thereby, not as affected by the recession as are many fathers.

A responsible father who love and care for his family will say that to his son because he knows his son is his rival and his son will also get more attention from his mom in that situation than the father will get from his wife. Besides if it was his daughter he wouldn't make that statement, he would have had the thought of going to pick her at school too. Those are the crazy and wonderful things our parents do for love.

aside from The soft,motherly And problem solving nature of women they also Have all the time/chance to relate with their children right from small age giving the children the confident to run Them When they need their company/companionship. as for the father, he's hustling And bustling trying to get What The family will eat, Africa father don't no how to create time And spend with their children.

It's a natural phenomenon that one gets intimate with someone they spend longer time with, and even in the Bible, it's Daddy's sole responsibility to provide and cater for the family's need, hence makes them spend little time with the family.

Mothers strive to make their children happy. All the men can think of is how to hang out with friends and be coming back home late at night. Same here op. Na my momsie I like, if we watching movie in the sitting room nd pman enter, we go just disperse like smoke. That's when he's gonna start complaining abt hw u didn't do this n that very well.
