Please i need my people help here. The attached pictures is a generator for sale by my Neighbour in abuja who moved to a new apartment with a big generator for the whole block of flats. This is the reason for the sale.
The selling price is 100, 000. Is this a good buy for a generator of this size? Generator has been used for 1year and still works well.

Beauty.... is in the eye of the beholder!

Do that which pleases your own heart, .....its your house!

I even think "very dark colors" are not for inside....... but that is just a personal opinion, others may think otherwise.

Very correct on the dark colors not for interiors, most people have this opinion and even me personally refused to used black i went for grey color.
If Eguns still have the tiles left and for Cost reasons you can continue but if not Use another color egbon.

To start with, is it a storey building? which I guess it is, please do a 40ft tower. You may have water pressure problem for upper flat(s) with 30ft.

The cost depends on the height and the carrying capacity of the tower. What is the size of "water containers" (tanks) and how many will be balanced on the tower?

With the current price increases N550K may just cut it.

I did over 40ft tower for 4 water tanks for N480K. See pic.

First,
Go to where they sell generator and 'price' a brand new one of the same type and Model.
Using "depreciation", this generator should have depreciated by at least 35%, taking an average life span of 4yrs for a "Nigerian used" Generator (average! because our weather sef fit reduce life span by another 20% extra! grin ).

Thus, if the price of a new one is say 175,000 and this is on offer for 100,000 (rough figures), it MAY BE its good a buy.
(Try and see if you can do some "hard bargain" with the seller to knock down 10K from the offered price).

Now, l used "MAY BE" in my last paragraph! the reason is that some items carry an even much more greater risk, with use/age/time.
Generator is one of them. Parts like the Coil, Engine Block, Carburetor, Ball bearings, e.t.c all wear with age and are not very visible until the day they pack up! I mean, a Generator might be working fine TODAY and you will have to spend 40,000 on it, next week, when it packs up!

Secondly, you did not give us the "specifications" of the Generator (Power rating Specs, KWh, HP, e.t.c). It is difficult to quantify what it is worth in the open market, without those specs

Except it is coming very, very cheap (as in dirt cheap), l always advice against buying second hand items that are over 20K. (because for that amount, you can afford to take exceptional risk and if it back-fire, you simply count your losses! grin and move-on )

I notice it is Hyundai which makes it an OEM product..........as against those China-pirated "do Nigerian Standard" for us things! grin
That is another "plus" for the Generator.

Bottom-line: Beat down the price (flash cash, complain about not able to get parts easily for the brand, say it s a very great risk as noone can say something is not "about to" pafuka inside! use all the bargaining gimmicks in your bag to reduce your risk to a manageable levl such that by the time you use it and it starts showing color..... you would have got your money's worth from it).

My instincts tell me it would be a good buy, if you can achieve a lower price.... in this recession! shocked

Just my ten cents.

Lastpage!

BTW: I am nowhere near the league of people like AllCopacetic, e.t.c when it comes to electricals...... l am just using 'native intelligence', grin those guys are professionals in the business.

Edited: I see that it is 6KVA. Not a bad idea. Go for it but price down as much as "friendly negotiation" will allow you. (Ijebi tactics now...) grin

I looked again and l see more than 3 Generators of the same types there!
They also look very dusty like they are being used in a construction site?

Used for just one year? I doubt that except if it was used by a Construction Company in which case, that explains its current look/state.

My position above still stands.
Calculated risk.....lower the price

30ft is the normal Nigeria way of doing things by half: (half measure), Don't cut corners, 40ft is peace of mind. Do one is one and rest. Low water pressure at home can be frustrating.

It is possible to extend the tower later but it will cost you more than to build the required length from inception.

I think it won't be unreasonable to build a block tower for the bungalow for now. I guess N50k may cut it.

you have to look at it from the distance from your highest shower point and the height of the tank. From experience, get it right first time and save yourself heartache later. For every 1 metre height distance, it equates to 0.1 bar water pressure. Also use original H beams that can be bolted if you can.

Low water pressure is extremely frustrating, imagine having a shower and soap dey ur body, u dey wait make shower wash am comot grin. When e reach one stage, you go comot bucket o.

In my case, i went just over 3 metres above my current highest shower point. So converting to foot, it will be about over 40 foot high, about 45 i think, with a raft base about 4 foot high, carries 3 tanks, 2k, 2k and 3k at the highest point, treated with red oxide 2 coat base, and care paint as final finish.

Please oga landlords, who provide the generator for water pumping from the borehole in a commercial house? Is it the landlord or the tenants?

If it's the landlord does he also provide the fuel? What about the maintenance of the generator ?

Oga Mavverick any idea?

Landlord to provide the borehole (add the cost to the rent)

Tenants buy fuel and pay for the electricity (or generator) to pump according to their need.

If landlord lives in the same house, he should share the cost with the tenants.

Landlord does not live in the house.

if I'm in this situation, I rather take responsibility for everything and charge it on rent one time except for light bcuz it is usually 1 meter for entire building in nija. Might be to much for me with back and fourth with tenants as u described

If (and only if) the landlord is sure of recovering the cost from rents., he can go ahead and provide the generator. But my concern is buying an equipment you cannot monitor it's use since you say the landlord is not living in the compound. Supposing they start using the generator for other services other than the borehole? And they will still want the landlord to repair it. This will also raise the question, who will replace the generator if it packs up?

This may lead to future problems.

if tenant want water, in the absence of electricity the tenant will have to buy his own generator. It is not the landlord's business all the basic amenities has already been provided
