Prior to the 2015 General elections, Goodluck Jonathan to many right thinking Nigerians, was probably not a worthy candidate. So much mismanagement and corruption had taken place under Jonathan that everybody felt it was time for him to go. Moreso, the Chibok girls had been abducted, and unbelief, underlined by the gross politicization of the entire issue made it impossible for the then president to handle the issue with the urgency and determination that it deserved. So necessarily, with Jonathan turning out to be so incompetent, he had to go.

However, when the All Progressives Congress(APC) selected Muhammadu Buhari, a famed former dictator, with no pedigree of respect for human rights, as their presidential candidate, the choice of several people immediately changed to Jonathan. Better to manage an improving president who has the utmost respect for human rights than return Nigeria to the hey days of military dictatorship.

But there were others who would rather Nigeria returned to a dictatorship than return a democrat, so they sold Buhari as Nigeria’s messiah—the one who will come and with one wave of his magical wand, change our circumstances. The people gobbled it all up and post-inauguration, optimistically waited for a new dawn.

It was a dawn that has now refused to come, as the country was thrown further into darkness. Buhari, the leopard who would never change its spots, in addition to heaping untold suffering on the people, systematically began a clampdown on all opposing voices, with the sole intent of returning the country to its previous military status.

Olisa Metuh spoke out, and was shut up by the EFCC. Femi Fani-Kayode dared speak up against the government’s cluelessness, he was barricaded with dozens of corrupt accusations. Ayodele Fayose, the sole opposition voice remaining, is daily being persecuted by Buhari and his dogs. Fayose’s sole protection is the cloak of immunity that he still wears as the governor of Ekiti state. Remove that cloak, and the outspoken governor will be cooling his feet at Kirikiri.

On the part of ordinary citizens, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) who are peacefully asking for their own nation are constantly murdered by Buhari’s security forces for daring to speak. Apostle Johnson Suleiman, maverick clergyman, who had witnessed the constant butchering of innocent Christians dared to speak out about it, and was hurled in by Buhari’s Department of State Services(DSS). The motto is simple; speak out against Buhari, and face arrest or death.

Then the big one; popular musician, Tuface Idibia decided that he was going to be at the forefront of leading a peaceful protest against bad governance. The movement gathered so much attention that it became Nigerians ultimate vote of no confidence on a sick, MIA, clueless, yet dictatorial president. What did Buhari and his dogs do? They found a way to threaten Tuface and...
