I'm not from the east or south south, i'm not even a Biafran and don't ever wish to be. But i had to read about Biafran war out of my curiousity. I also read much about wars and i discovered It is only a foolish General that will
allow himself to be captured when
there is room for escape. ojukwu did
the right thing by escaping capture
because he would have been
humiliated and killed. The rule for Generals is to escape
capture if you can but where this is not
possible, you either commit suicide or
die taking your bullets on the chest
and not your back. I think people should stop saying that man ran away. I'm a Nigerian and I know how bad Nigerian Government would have treated Biafrans if Ojukwu was caught red handed and humiliated. Had it been Ojukwu was captured, Gowon wouldn't have said "No Victor, No Vanguished". I think the only respect Igbos still have now is Ojukwus escape cos their wasn't any prosecution after the war. Nigerian army didn't win the war because Ojukwu wasn't captured. I love igbos, I'm still in love with my first love who's igbo and the little time i spent with his mum is one of the most exciting times of my life. My take

Op I really don't get your point if you were trying to make one,what did biafrans gain by him running away? Don't be fooled by the no Victor no vanquished mantra(which was just a common phrase to encourage reintegration) . That biafra surrendered will forever be engraved in history. Ojukwu's was biafra leader and the decision to fight or surrender was his burden, and a good general picks his battles wisely. You could fight, try and then surrender, no shame in that and you can also fight and perish to make a point called 'heroic last stands' note the keyword heroic, and some have endured for generations such as 1(Leonidas of Sparta 480bc) 2 battle of camaron(France still celebrate Camaron day every 30th day of April after 250 years) but any general worth his salt should be decisive, why did 3 million people have to die before he ran away leaving a braver man to surrender. At least it's not as if they all died one day. Truth is he never cared about his people. If he had the audacity to tell his people to sacrifice themselves why couldn't he make the same sacrifice? There's no shame in loosing a war. Many have and still won people's hearts. Ojukwu running away and surviving a war that cost so many lives is just a disgrace. Biafrans gave good account of themselves in the war only for them to be let down by ojukuw
