UGHELLI— SUSPECTED herdsmen, numbering over 20, yesterday, blocked the Ohorhor-Bomadi Road, Delta State, attacking and dispossessing passengers of their valuables.

The Ohorhor-Bomadi Road is a major road linking many Ijaw communities in Bomadi and part of Burutu Local Government areas of the state.

Although details of the incident was sketchy at press time, sources at the community told Vanguard on phone that the herdsmen barricaded the road for over 50 minutes, as they unleashed mayhem on travellers.
Acting Chairman of Ohorhor community, Mr. Power Oba, told.

Vanguard : “I was not around when they stormed the road. But I was informed on phone that they barricaded the road about 3p.m., and disposed passengers of valuables.”

Giving details of his ordeal, a passenger, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “It was a scary sight as they freely robbed us without fear that police might drive into them.”

Attempts to speak with the state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, was fruitless as calls to his phone were unanswered.

The Police are sometimes hard to reach when crimes like this occur

Perhaps they didn't charge the phones or they become unavailable deliberately

Wow! And I just plied that spot few minutes ago. One of our Oga was kidnapped around Abraka beach, after days of torture and starving, he was released around Abavo. Delta state need to do something about these guys

Didn't you read the opening sentence of the post?
It says
Suspected herdsmen .. ....
And by the way, a herdsman isn't difficult to identify, even from a mile away.

If they were of another ethnic origin, will there tribe be called out like this? I am not defending the act, but we have to tread with caution. When armed robbers of southern origin waylay northerners on the highways, do we call it out their tribal affiliation? The current trend of the criminalisation of anything Fulani is very dangerous. I just hope we are able to contain it before it escalates to something else.

These are not herdsmen. These are armed robbers disguised as herdsmen in order to rob with impunity innocent and unsuspecting travelers.
Me thinks criminally minded people are now using the name and cloak of herdsmen to perpetuate crimes.
