Most can't drive within the marked line.... I usually see such horrifying driving on you tube when watching Nollywood...How can one drive in middle of white line without remorse...not that they are changing lane or something...

Some of them didn't pay attention at driving school or got their driver's license through the window

even if u get your license though the toilet window in white mans country, it will still backfire, because enforcement will catch up with u somehow, especially if you really can't drive, like 90% of Nigerians.

accept it, Nigeria is a zoo, a big hell hole.

That is why most Nigerians are referred to as animals

Simple lane discipline, that a monkey can be trained to do by the whites, is hard for animals in the zoo.

I agree with you on the double parking and High beam lights.

many Nigerian drivers do not know that there is a high - low beam setting for head lights.

The common courtesy of dimming your high beams when approaching another vehicle is lost, even when you signal to the on coming vehicle , the driver puts on his full beam regardless of the risk.

Another thing I would want to point out is the use of the hazard lights or double indicator lights.

The Hazard light should only be used when the vehicle is stationary or immobilized.

We see drivers using the hazard lights when the want to drive one-way ( telling other drivers they re clearly a hazard)

Convoy drivers and escorts are notorious for abusing the hazard lights as they flash it with impunity and joyous abandon.

Sometimes I don't blame them...I blame the authorities that issue licenses....They just issue driving licenses to people that did not go to driving school or pass driving test...once you flash your money, the license is yours...they had zero driving rules..once anyone can reverse a car or accelerate, The person claims that he or she can drive

I guess we will blame the whole system then.

It's like running water contaminated by sand through two filters and the water still comes out sandy, then one or the both of those filters has(ve) failed.

Same with this issue, the authorities giving out licenses and the authorities enforcing driving rules have both failed to filter out over 90% of maniacs from our roads.

In other words, Nigerians are terrible drivers! Most of us drive with our emotions.
We feel like dying when another vehicle overtakes us in traffic.
Worst, Abuja women - CHAI!!!! (especially if they are driving a, SUV or a fairly new car) and they are either driving to Church or doing school runs. In your own interest, avoid them. lipsrsealed

Commercial drivers are another nut-case! Actually, many of them are Okada riders that graduated into driving cars/buses. They still use their Okada mentality and they see nothing wrong in what they are doing embarassed embarassed embarassed

Sometimes I really wonder what the mandate of the FRSC is . . . . Who is really responsible for driver education in this Country?
Can't the FRSC spearhead driver education and training?
Why will the FRSC not have Driving Training facilities all over the country?
Is their job only to keep harassing road users (many of whom don't really know basic driving ethics) over fire extinguishers, wearing seat-belts etc . . .

How many Nigerian drivers actually learnt how to drive or passed through driving school.

I didn't attend a driving school but I know all these rules and try as much as possible to follow them. At times all that is needed to be a good driver is just common sense and compassion/consideration for your fellow road users.

The "whites" did not give you a car to drive. They made it from the proceeds of resources they stole from you, then sold it to you again at exorbitant prices.

I feel so sad when I see drivers @ Double parking.

Before I move my car, I must fasten my seat belt subconsciously.

I don't drive more than 10seconds without looking at mirrors

Seriously it dosnt mean two vehicles parking on both sides of the road side by side

You forgot to add: other motorists that 'trafficate' and immediately shunt into your lane, almost colliding with your car. They do not even bother to stop and wait, to see if the road is clear for them to change lanes or not. They seem to think that immediately they have switched on their trafficator, it gives them a license to move or change lanes within a split second! Animals! angry

If you stop for pedestrians at a zebra crossing, they will be looking at you as if you want to use their destiny for jazz.

I wear my seatbelt at the back without fail. It struck me one day, so if we are in an accident, my driver will be safe while i will travel through the windscreen? Nah!

How can you know all the rules without attending a driving school and eventually sit for an exam
I was like you some years ago. i had been driving for 15 years in nigeria. I moved to a different country with similar road rules as nigeria..i knew all the road rules as far as i was concerned.... i failed the theory test twice and driving test twice...

True! So annoying. By the way, Abuja motorists don't trafficate. They just squeeze you in your lane and force you to yield to their lawlessness. cry cry cry Sad

Which exam? Hahaha. In Nigeria you go to the licensing office, pay your fee, fill in your details into the system and voila: your license is ready in a few weeks. No one actually cares if you can drive or not, no practical tests. Before now, someone else could even carry out the whole registration on your behalf.
What I did was I got a good driver to teach me on the streets, read all the road signs, rules and regulations and was good to go.
If I happen to move to a saner country tomorrow, then nothing prevents me from going to their driving schools and doing things the proper way.

Double Parking
Double parking is illegally parking next to another vehicle that is properly parked in a stall or on the street. When you park this way, you prevent drivers from leaving their parking spaces and stall the flow of traffic. If all parking spaces are full, try to find one farther away. Double parking is a traffic violation punishable by fine.

It is in Nigeria that someone will be in traffic for hours but then get to the front and can't find what caused the whole wahala in the first place. grin
I don't understand why people always make this statement. If the cause of the whole wahala wasn't cleared away, would you have been able to get to the front? And if you got to the front because the cause of the trouble has been cleared, what do you expect to see in the front again?

High beam head light! Grrrrrrrr! Iritates me soo much i had to go to spec savers to test my eyes to make sure i have not gone blind after driving in nigeria at night time.

seat belt? Some nigerians were laughing at me for wearing seat belt, they must have thought that i was been dumb, and using mobile phones while driving was also rampant amongst nigerian motorists. But all in all i enjoyed driving in nigeria was a lot of fun grin and oh! I was also guilty of using my horn alot otherwise i would have ran a lot of people over, nigerians don't give a sheet! Some of them will just walk in front of your car carelessly and some motorists were cutting coners at the round about grin i remember braking when i saw a squirrel run infront of me they thought it was funny, dumb and unussual.
A lot of heavy goods vehicle didn't have rear light and break lights, a datsun van was soo overloaded with baskets of fresh pepper the driver reversed into me because he didn't have a side mirror and he couldn't see his behind while reversing thank God for my full blown horn. At first i was angry but in the end in became hillarious as i ve said i enjoyed driving in nigeria and i love nigerians they were funny, enthusiastic and comical.
