Have been one of the user of the Naira MasterCard to buy goods online but I first received one message from Gtbank saying:

"Dear customer, you can conveniently use PayPal with a GTBank Dollar Card. Apply now on Internet Banking or send a mail to cardsandproductdev@gtbank.com".

After some days that have been trying to use the card to pay online that have been decline, I decided to try it again to buy on eBay and was decline and later Gtbank sent message saying:

Dear Customer, your transaction was declined because the amount attempted exceeds your approved cumulative limit.

But now am confused because I don't really understand that 2nd message and I heard that some people card is still going on well. Please help. Thanks

What card type did you use when you got the second message? I think they've stopped the Naira card for foreign transactions since last week or so.

That's the shock I got this morning trying to pay for a subscription using PayPal.

Now that we are to use dollar card, will the limits still apply?
Will PayPal lift its ban on funds receipt into cards issued by Nigerian banks?

Means you have spent more than 100$ on your card this month.... The monthly limit for international transactions is 100$ on your naira card

Foreign transactions still available... It's not available only for Facebook ads and PayPal... Other transactions so far are successful

Dollar card has no monthly limit.... You can use PayPal with a dollar card... There is no problem using dollar card

Well there may be a limit as to how much dollar your BVN profile can transact out monthly.

Accepting inflow into your PayPal is a government regulation thing. PayPal still does not have the licence from CBN to do that. Infact CBN does not know whether that falls into the IMTO category or not.

Naaaah! More of a licence thing. With their links to the banks, it would have been much more easier with the BVN to map PayPal accounts to Nigerian bank accounts but CBN is scared the inflows would end up tied down in those accounts instead of to fund the forex market at a quicker rate than it would be if the owner withdraw and sell.

That is still looking at the negatives only.

We are not using this BVN for any practical purpose, which as you point out could help with online payment processing.

I tried using mine to pay for ticket on ABC transport for both gtbank naira card and Union Bank verve and it keeps telling me maximum amount reached or something like that.and i had not withdrawn from the ATM that day and the ticket cost was 33000.

you can open a domiciliary account with them so u will get the dollar card... its depends on the shopping site... for me, i use amazon and aliexpress.. so whenever i want to buy something more than 100$, i will first buy 100$ giftcard with my account then buy the remaining with my siblings account... with that i can buy goods up to 500$......


i should have opened the domiciliary account but i was told to get drivers license or international passport b4 they will open it...(I've tried all the banks)... same response... they dont accept the NIMC slip...

thats why i use my siblings card... but for domiciliary account, there is no limit

I have Domiciliary accounts with Gtbank and UBA and I only used Voter's Card. Which Bank did you go?

I don't have any Nigerian ID card even the voters card you said.... Only the temporary NIMC slip which is just useless

You specify the amount of gift card you want starting from 1$.... So 100$ is 32,000...

So as explained above, 100$ is equal to 32000.. Then I will transfer 32000 to the account I want to use for payment... Then buy another 100$... Continuously until I get the number of dollar needed.....


I've used the method on Amazon and it's legal...


Even without going through this, you can buy Amazon gift card here... Just go to the business section of naira land, you will see sellers there....
