I think the writer is the arrogant one here, not the SA High Commission! Wonder where she got her sense of entitlement from. Applying barely 2 weeks before the proposed travel date; calling her "contacts" to pull strings to fast-track her "visa issuance", like she's guaranteed one; pressuring the embassy with calls and emails, etc., is enough for her application to be "deliberately" delayed and/or denied. Why not turn in your application and sit back while the embassy processes on merit, like every other person without "contacts" would? Lastly, BMW shouldn't have to lose any "huge amount of money". All they need do is to simply cancel all the bookings, with only a token forfeited as penalty/administrative charge. But then, what do I know? And to think the writer is supposed to be a journalist? A poorly written piece, if you ask me. Sitting here criticizing SA High Commission? If only she knew what folks go through while applying for a short visit visa to Nigeria. Even Nigerians abroad will testify to the goodness of the Nigeria High Commission the world over! |

Thats SA for you... they always think they re doing you a favor by givin u a visa... but i wont blame them tho.. i should blame Nigerians with the way they petray their selves at the embassy! They make it look like a do or sie affair. |

You were told 10 to 15 working days. I thinks it best to until until then before you accuse them of anything. I understand you pain because i have experienced something similar in getting a visa to UK. All embassies actually overshoot their deadlines a lot. |

shinarambo1:Kenyan visas come in a week! Do they have better tech than SA too? Plus she didn't apply late unless you missed the part where she wrote that she got the BMW invitation at the end of January. |

icon8:I had wanted to reply, but then i stumbled on your comment. This writer's tirade is totally uncalled for. Her article reeks of arrogance and entitlement. It's not as if she has been denied the visa even when it is the prerogative of the Country to grant or deny a visa. Also, did she pay for fast track service?! The N70,000 she coughed out wasn't to the SA High Commission. It was to an agency. In Davido's voice - "no be by force to go South Africa". She obviously isn't going about this maturely. Maybe na the hotel booking and the perks wey BMW dey offer her; and wey she think say she fit miss, dey make her head spin. |

Someone is complaining of S.A's incompetence and we all know how they hate Nigeria and you are here yapping crap..I really don't blame you because I'm sure you have not travelled beyond your present location because if you have then you'll understand her pain and you won't talk anyhow. ![]() |

GoldCircle:Hehehe...lol. You summed it all up so nicely. To go SA "na by force"? I totally agree with the bolded. So immature and in bad taste. Could you believe she was even advising the SA High Commission to take a cue from UAE (Dubai) and one other country like that? Why not Nigeria, if her own country were that "on fleek"? |

Why is she saying all this story. Why cant she just apply for a normal visiting visa by herself? Why did she use an agent? Attention seeking blogger. Who buys a ticket without a valid visa? Nigerian embassy in SA is worse. I have a female nigerian student who gave birth in SA and was grounded for almost 2 months because the embassy said they didnt have materials to print a nigerian passport for the new baby. Imagine. The day the passport was ready, she went and they told her its not collection day. She had to start crying under the sun with her baby b4 they gave her. That's a nigerian at a nigerian embassy o.. |

her story does not add up how can you buy a ticket when your visa is not yet out woman .All i see is a desperate woman looking for all means to get back into south africa her desperation make it all suspicious and enough reasons for the embassy to critically look at her application sometimes many people think they can just submit nonsense this people issuing the visas know the way things work in Nigeria so that i love fast cars rubbish you are saying keep it aside |

In as much as the service from the South African Embassy is appalling. The Nigerian one is worse, and I don't see us having any morale justification in calling them out, when we are no better. Best we channel our energies in calling ourselves out and fixing our own appalling issues. |

This is standard with the South African home affairs office. Two years ago it took 2.5 months to get a visa in Abuja VFS. And even in South Africa, it takes 1-3 months to get a response depending on your specific case. When applying for a visa it's not black and white, you have to be ready for anything. And number one rule: NEVER MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS BEFORE GETTING YOUR VISA. The US and UK are king enough to tell you this. They only need an itinerary to see your proposed travel dates to decide visa validity period. And you can book a hotel with free cancellation in case things go south. All in all this story shows the applicant had no prior experience traveling to SA. |

I was in Johannesburg in january 2014. I stayed only 5 days and came back. Till today i have not gotten back my N110,000 repatriation fee that i paid before travelling. Na turn turn game all the time. It is like Jibiti is embedded in the genes of South Africans |

South Africa Embassy in Lagos is a joke especially when applying for a visit visa. if you don't know any agent that will bribe the corrupt visa officers @ molade Okoya,no visa 4 u. imagine an agent boosted of getting a Visa in 3days and did while genuine applicants wait 4 months and still get denied. It's even a standard dis days,an agent will tell SA Visa is "150k". Vfs should just kuku put"Agent fees" on their receipt. Naija is finished. |

madam even if your paper is complete and genuine the south africa has the right to give you or deny you a visa so i dont understand why you are ranting if you read the rules and regulations on their site properly you see it there . Na wa ooo you were not even returned at the point of entry i have seen cases where people with genuine visa were denied entry at the point of entry so what is your case here .The fact remains entry into their country remains at the discretion of their immigration officials and embassy |

My advice to anyone traveling is to start visa applications at least two months before the expected date of departure. Just to be on the safe side, my S.A visa was released after almost two months. I think you applied too late. Sorry tho. |

kjhova:SA may decide it's not worth it buying faster tech equipment, SA may have an unusual high amount of applicants from Nigeria, SA might contract out security screening to a 3rd party e.t.c ..SA is also not under any obligation to push an application to the front of the line cos a Nigerian VIP is attending a BMW event. 15 working days like someone said above after checking their website is just a guide. Each application would be treated on its own merit. She even claimed she tried to use connections inside the embassy. Not every organisation views nepotism as normal. |
