I appreciate your very civil response, now let me make this clear while it might seem like this thread was intended to throw shot at any ethnic group that is wrong, I only used the post to draw attention to the very situation on our hands here in Nigeria tell me anything I said in my subsequent comments that are false, I do understand the position of the yorubas and yes they have a right to feel the way the do on this thread, but I needed to pass my message regardless how bitter a pill it is to swallow, I condemned the actions by the South Africans, I preached against any confrontation with the South Africans, did you see what the South Africans where doing to themselves during the apartheid, can you imagine what they would do to Nigerians should this become a full blown conflict between both nationals, i used the opportunity to let Yorubas understand that it was wrong to call a fellow ethnic group names, like drug traffickers or baby factory and the likes, I also used the opportunity to preach against the go back to your village syndrome or respect your host nonsense. I know the Yorubas feel hurt but I need to get this thread active so my message could reach out to more people but it appears everyone is more concerned about the preacher and not the message. To have a united happy one Nigeria many of this things should be addressed starting from Nairaland our youths are all well represented here. We have to start promoting One Nigeria from this platform and not just when Nigeria is under attack

Coming to the language, hey bruv I speak Yoruba so well I even speak a dialect of Ijebu Igbo and Ijebu ode, I lived all my life in the south west all my education in the South west even my professional programs all here in south west family was confirmed with a title by a Baale and we all have Yoruba names given to us by him too, all my peeps, friends and I mean all, are Yorubas, business Yorubas workers, Yorubas as a matter of fact are the only ones I feel comfortable doing things with, outside my tribe, so I am no tribalist at least not towards Yorubas, all my Yoruba peeps will be like guy na only Igbo president fit make 9ja beta o, but coming to nairaland the story is different, while we (me and my Yoruba peeps) watched the video all what my Yoruba peeps were saying was "if South Africa go vex, abi this people don they mad o, them get mind o, make South Africans no go change am for them o, make e no pass like this o, dem wan fight South Africa for their house" but coming to nairaland the story is different every one seems to think the Nigerians can overrun the SA in their country, no one is asking what the ripple effect could be, if Nigerians were to protect themselves for how long do we think they will hold, please read what SA did to themselves during the apartheid, no one seems to be asking what the presidency is doing about it. My thread was misunderstood I could have modified it to suit everyone but I needed it to reach out to more readers and expected a change of mindset from Nigerians and Nairalanders alike Hey I can't mess with Yorubas they are brothers to me if you noticed all through my post I never called them names or preach any evil against them, but I condemn their attitude towards Igbo's on this forum and this thread was to draw light to that and remedy it not cause disaffection. In a way, you confirmed my suspicions when you said in this post I'm quoting that you knew of the tribal war of words going on between Yoruba and Igbo on this forum, yet you went ahead to post this video for a purpose which you stated quite clearly in your own words saying:

You see your brothers going from one thread to another sowing hate, yet you don't think to caution them. You probably laugh when they yab Yorubas and get angry when Yorubas return the favor.

Despite the fact that your post was very long, I took time to read every word, every sentence. I noticed that you didn't address my points at all. All you did was try to justify why the Yorubas should be demonized and used as a scapegoat in this scenario like you did.

My points remain valid.

The video showed clearly a group of people DEFENDING themselves and not ATTACKING anyone.

Were you expecting them not to defend themselves against attacks?

I pointed out that cars were moving in front of them and they didn't attack those cars. They stood in one place expecting the police to come to their aid.

If you speak Yoruba like you claim to, then you'll get at least that much information from the video.

You posted a video and misrepresented it so that those who don't understand Yoruba will think the Yorubas are the problem of the country in SA.

Thank you for your very sensible and honest reply, frankly speaking your assumptions were not my intentions, I still maintain that Yorubas are wonderful peeps and the best set of friends I have had till date, I even have stories to tell of how I have been accommodated in remote villages in Yoruba towns where I had to sleep on mats with the natives and stayed with them till I got my admissions (Those are back in the days when I tried to get admission into OOU, OAU finally did) those villagers were so nice to me we still talk till date and their kids now come to see me in Lag stay in my home for weeks, months and I don't even see them as Yorubas I just see them as friends colleagues, partners, well wishers and most importantly my best friends, they are very funny peeps I actually stole a lot of that humor from them.

But coming to nairaland the story is different, a lot of hate and animosity for one another please don't get it wrong I am not saying this is the exclusive reserve of the Yorubas, NO, every one ethnicity on nairaland is guilty of it on nairaland especially toward the Igbo's, but this is even more embarrassing because if you come to the Nigeria reality, the Yorubas and the Igbo's are a perfect match and co-habit better with each other than any other ethnic group in the country this is evident in every sphere of life in Yoruba cities, from marriage, to business partnership, to political appointments, to social life, clubbing, partying whatever name it heck the even voted Igbo's to represent in some LG, but come to nairaland you would wonder if it's the same yorubas out there that are on Nairaland, and nobody calls the other to order instead it becomes competition as to who will say the most embarrassing thing about the other ethnic group.

In all honesty I created this thread to call out some of the thing that they Yorubas do here that are wrong that give Nigerians away, like calling a fellow ethnic national, drug dealer, baby factory hailing some actions that ordinarily should be condemned in the interest of one Nigeria, like flogging a Igbo chief, or an Oba saying Igbo's drown in the Lagoon, or saying Igbo's go back to your land, respect, your host, this things don't give a nationalistic representation of the people. In most cases it is not what is said that hurt but the silence of the people who should condemn these wrongs. Yes igbos are also guilty of calling yoruba names and I do condemn the action and will speak against it cause i cannot promote such as it wouldn't benefit me in anyways, if you do same when it concern your peeps and everyone one follow suit nairaland will be a better place for national interaction and promote national unity.

When I created this thread to be frank what I wanted Nairalanders to discuss was those issues I mentioned up there and not necessarily the xenophobic attacks I only used the video to give a full picture of what Nigeria could be if we don't condemn or speak against certain ills of the society as a people. However I must confess the post was misrepresented and did not reflect my true intentions this however spurred the misunderstanding that ensued there after, To you and other Yorubas I do withdraw my initial post and just have the video there, I have not will not and cannot betray any Yorubas for the trust the have showered on me do you know I am even a secretary to a Yoruba gathering so why betray people who have showed me so much love and care over the years. Sir, you're the one who's talking off point here: where did I mention anything about White South Africans in my post? I thought that by purposely ignoring that question... you would get the point but it seems that you haven't so let me tell you plainly: I'm not a South African so I don't really care about them and their politics; what I'm more concerned with is the growing negative reputation that Nigerians have- not only in South Africa but across the globe. This is mostly due to the amount of criminal activities some Nigerians abroad are taking part in. Though I agreed with you that Black South Africans are not attacking foreigner because of crime but I disagreed with the facts that Black South Africans are attacking Whites recently. I get the sense that you're much older than me so I'll try to be as respectful as possible when I say this: show me where I said that South Africans are killing Nigerians solely because Nigerians are criminals? Now, that you've admitted that you're the one who brought up white South Africans, I will tell you this: there is no wide scale violence being committed by black South Africans on whites there. The xenophobic attacks are more prevalent than the attacks on white South Africans- we live in a white man's world so it would constantly be front page news if that was the case- so the two situations are different and must be treated as such. That's all I will say on the matter as like I told you before, I don't actually care about South Africa and its internal problems which is why I didn't want to go into the topic any further. My only interest is in Nigerians and how we are regarded globally.

Now, that you've admitted that you're the one who brought up white South Africans, I will tell you this: there is no wide scale violence being committed by black South Africans on whites there. The xenophobic attacks are more prevalent than the attacks on white South Africans- we live in a white man's world so it would constantly be front page news if that was the case- so the two situations are different and must be treated as such. That's all I will say on the matter as like I told you before, I don't actually care about South Africa and its internal problems which is why I didn't want to go into the topic any further. My only interest is in Nigerians and how we are regarded globally.
