This was hiw the Oil companies started until the where compelled to do local employment and train youths .

if wot dey are saying is tru, den the company need to do something. skill acquisitions, scholarship and do some projects. The community need to benefit for them too.

The company needs to do the needful. Then again the community might be messed up. There was a community in Delta state were I was privileged to work, the company operating in the area employed community members for every position they had a non-indigene. But guess what, the indigenes never come to work, they only come during lunch time to take free lunch and are high on cheap alchohol all day. I mean all these guys have ID cards saying mechanic, heavy machinery driver etc. The few that work can show up any day and work for one hour and just leave with no explanation. That was when I feared all these host communities....lol

You don't understand people from rivers state. The so called youths are mostly touts. I used to work for a multinational company called GBNL and you would see these so called youths harassing employees everyday demanding that we employ them or they burn the place down. Never mind that they are not qualified or that when you do employ them, they only show up on pay day. And you better pay or they'll burn the place down.

Lagos is d way it is because my yoruba brodas made sure its safe for investment.
In d environment where i work d community are so friendly dats why d company can go any extent in making dem happy

How many times do u hear of such a Rubbish in lagos.
D company pays taxes and revenues to local government and community and i think legally dat is enof even if they decide not to employ any indigene

I always tell dem, aba is closer to dem, they shud go there and learn how people survive without white collar jobs

This attitude of host community is very common in Rivers. They can remain at that gate for the next 1month . They bring all their dead idols display it at the gate and do gyration all day long cooking and eating till the Company settles them. This attitude is archaic and of dark age more so in 21st century. There should be a more civilized way of pressing home your demand.

My guy, the moment we start reasoning positivwly, the better for us all. Our government doesn't give a fcck about us. Check this out; you go to their country, they use you; they still come to ur country, and still wants to use you. Bros, even the law of naturalization, is not in support of this.

i hope u will be glad to give out your land to such companies, only to watch your children stay jobless while foreigners take the available spaces because they are more qualified? What happened to organising skill acquisition programs,scholarships and every other needful things that will make the hosts feel the the dividends of their collective resources? By tomorrow now when that company leaves the community, they will have nothing to show for! is that okay?

Corporate responsibility should be encouraged, but not enforced. Does the company not pay taxes and levies to the federal, state and local governments. What are the state and local governments doing for the community? What is the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs doing for the community? What is the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) doing for the community?

The purpose of any business is to make profit. The company cannot afford to employ unqualified persons or ghost workers. Even if there are a few qualified persons in the community, they are still expected to go through the normal employment process (vacancy, application, interview).

As regards the difference in salary, do they all have the same job description?

this is why I said Osibanjo is learner when he said companies should move their head office to Niger Delta.

Now wat do they produce or wat service do they render? Why cant an established indigene in collaboration with d leaders set up dat same establishment and kick dem out of business.
