Who says they're no qualified indigenes? Seat in your father's house there and comment on issues you have no idea off. No wonder Many companies employ Filipinos to do jobs we can do cos of people with a mentality like yours
I really don't know why they are protesting. If they don't like the work condition and pay, they are free to go. It's not by force.

I understand your point, but see every company owes it's host community social responsibility part of which entails considering qualified indigenes first whenever there's a position to be filled. It's just the same way a Nigerian would be considered for a job first before an equally qualified foreigner. Most companies especially in the Niger Delta are dominated by either the two major tribes in the south who automatically fill in positions with friends and relations whom they know when there's a vacancy. These host communities have sensed this trend that's why these agitations continue to erupt over and over again.

Although, laziness on the part of youths of most host communities is still a serious problem, you can't excuse the defience of some coys to the plight of their hosts.

this is why I said Osibanjo is learner when he said companies should move their head office to Niger Delta.

they will make sure they collect milions from that company before they leave, the lazy people dont want to work
I'm a Niger Deltan brother and I'm not lazy. Infact, if the right thing- what Osibanjo said- had been done from the beginning, these agitations won't exist. The Niger Delta was once a very quiet place, ask yourself what happened? Why did the place turn into a war zone all of a sudden? This is a place that oil was drilled from since the 1950s till the 1990s before agitations crept in. It's easy to blame people for their woes when you don't study the remote causes of them problem.

I want to ask you a question, as a business owner, do you think it is right to employ your relatives or someone that can do the job better? I bet you will take someone that would be profitable to your company.
The point is if we continue with this host community mentality, we won't really make progress in this country. Do you know why? It is simple, the right people won't get the jobs. If the right people don't get the jobs, how would there be innovation? Without innovation how can a company have comparative advantage? It's that simple.
I say this because what was a privilege sometimes back is now a right. People don't want to got to school and learn now. Rather they want to work. They will get the jobs alright because of host community thing but they will not progress in the company and at the end of the day, they will be hostile towards the company.

Remember, I used the the words "equally qualified". Off course, it's makes no sense to appoint a less qualified individual to a sensitive position cos they are indigenes, but in every firm their are certain unskilled positions that should be left for indigenes of the host state or community. This are informal practices that are usually followed to ease tension and improve friendless with the host community.

I know you're coming from the position of most youths in the host community are lazy, but the coy should at least play their part; there's no way you can't find hardworking people in a whole community to fill a particular unskilled role.

Also, recruitment processes should be free and fair, encourage transparency so no one would have the guts to feel cheated at the end of the day. I say this because, I grew up in the south South, and there most coys employ through connections or IM, so when u talk about best brains, I just laugh-. Only, 1 out of 20 coys in Rivers state pick best brains. So if you're gonna do it though the back door, you have to consider your landlord first or you create room for agitation.
