I am a chemical engineering grad and a serving corp member that have plans to enrol and get some certifications during the service year. Please i need advice on viable ones as there might be constrains and I will have to choose.

HSE is important. Make sure you are proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite. Recently most jobs require experience or common sense not necessarily certification because you could end up not working in the Oil&gas industry, there are few jobs available in that sector.

Depends on your location, but have you learned how to use basic computer applications properly? If yes, I think learning a real practical skill beats all these paper certifications, things like, making paints, gums, household chemical products like bleach, soap, toilet wash etc, things that would sustain you in event that the job isn't forthcoming immediately after service. All those HSE this, PMP that doesn't give jobs.

Oga, you don't need any certification, what you need now is for you to study your GMAT cover to cover, create a professional resume, prepare yourself for interviews and continue applying for graduate trainee jobs.


note: don't limit yourself to oil and gas jobs or else you go wait taya. also, look out for internship opportunities.


no allow those fake nysc certificate courses chop your money o!

Good. Go for HSE certifications; then make sure you are very good with the use of engineering softwares mostly Chemical engineering softwares, it gives you edge.

Chem engr is a nice course I had my ond in chemical engrn.. u can venture into production like paint, soap , and many work.

ISO 9001 certification
Proficiency is MS Excel, Mathlab, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus and any other chemical engineering package you can find.

If what you plan on doing is fronting your certification at interviews, not the way to go.

Certification should only serve to validate your skills and experience. Not to give you those.

You don't need no certification to prove your advanced MS Excel proficiency.

Sit behind your computer. And read good old books.

Most importantly, get a job. Any.

I'd favour a six month paint industry experience above advanced Matlab, HYSYS, Mathematica, Excel certification, put together.

Try to be proficient in Aspen Hysys, Aspen Plus and Microsoft office suites ( Excel, Word, PowerPoint). These industry software will give you advantage.

I am a chemical engineer and i am sure you know chemical engineering is basically about processes so i will advice you to get project management certificate (not roadside training oo but a real PMP/CIMP certificate) then have a very good knowledge of Excel functions and formulars.

with this you have high chances of not only working in the O&G but also manufacturing industry.
