Most countries can do this. But stuff like boarder patrol needs to be sustained and sustaining high numbers is expensive. |

africaken254:I agree 100%, we need someone in this neighborhood to get the leaders of other west African nation thinking twice, an arms race won't hurt anyone infact it'll boost security. |

Henry240:That is a great photo! Thank you. But it is of the 6X6 version of the Mowag Piranha, not the EE-9 Cascavel. The main difference is the rear hull; the Piranha has two rear doors for the crew to exit while the Cascavel does not. Comparison photos below:

Nok234:No sir. I've tried twice to replied what Patchesagain said a page or so back, unfortunately, my gadget self switch off those two times...really annoying. The budget is not the reason why we have an underfunded Military, our political class are. We operate an extremely expensive politics in this part of the world, i.e "GREATER" priority is accorded to our Politicians who lack Vision and the Will. And that's why we are punching far, far below our weight and capacity. Patches said he considered the increment of Nigerian troop as bad, but thank goodness, it was his own perogative. Nigeria and SA are not on same "population level". What's Egypt's military-citizen ratio? So, the Less personnel = More cash to buy gears won't work with us. Nigerias' soldiers to Civilians ratio is too poor and frankly, funding shouldn't be an issue with us IF two-third of what our politicians spent/are spendings is diverted to Defense with "accountability". Anyway, it's not all about shining gears(ask the saudis), it's how well you're able to utilize what's at your disposal to your advantage(ask the Iranian). |

MikeCZA:Border patrol is literally useless if you ask me.... In areas around the SA/Swaziland border, traffickers literally ask the locals (on the Swazi side) if they have seen the South African troops, the locals would literally let them know if a Samil or military patrol bakkie passed by and when and even tell them they'll come back (because they have studied the routine). The best solution is to go high-tech, stage visible sensor and CCTV towers then couple them with follow-up drones... Just the sight of those towers alone act as a repellant. |

MikeCZA:lack of spirit .....?? To fight for what, another 30 years of unsupervised supreme leadership. The political ambitions of that individual is not the life of any single Gambian. Frankly I find it difficult to give a f*ck who the president of The Gambia is, I am only celebrating that no lives were lost during the operation. |

MikeCZA:The Swazis like all our neighbors don't corporate well with the South African security agencies. The Swazi police and military know where the dagga is planted and even know who traffics it to South Africa. They'll be like "as long as you don't sell it in Swaziland"... Same goes with Mozambique and it's rhino poachers. |
