The Swazis like all our neighbors don't corporate well with the South African security agencies. The Swazi police and military know where the dagga is planted and even know who traffics it to South Africa. They'll be like "as long as you don't sell it in Swaziland"... Same goes with Mozambique and it's rhino poachers.
Collection.

NAF INTENSIFIES AERIAL SURVEILLANCE OVER ABUJA-KADUNA HIGHWAY

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its air surveillance activities over the Abuja-Kaduna highway and the railway track to monitor traffic and prevent illegal activities along the routes. The deployment of the additional platforms was informed by the diversion of air traffic from Abuja to Kaduna and the need to provide adequate air cover to safeguard lives, property and critical infrastructure.
The Chief of Training and Operation (CTOP), Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi Iya who undertook an operational visit to the Kaduna airport to reassess the security and logistics arrangements disclosed that the NAF commenced aerial patrol of the highway and railway since August last year. He added that the visit was equally to enable the NAF to hold discussion with the civil aviation authority on proper coordination of airfield activities as the NAF uses the same air space to train its pilots undergoing primary flying training.

Border patrol is literally useless if you ask me.... In areas around the SA/Swaziland border, traffickers literally ask the locals (on the Swazi side) if they have seen the South African troops, the locals would literally let them know if a Samil or military patrol bakkie passed by and when and even tell them they'll come back (because they have studied the routine).

The best solution is to go high-tech, stage visible sensor and CCTV towers then couple them with follow-up drones... Just the sight of those towers alone act as a repellant.
there is also ground based SAR surveillance radar which can detect man size target farther than 30KM,out ranging EO/IR cctv cameras, the technology is there but this dinosaurs in control of our security apparatus are the problem

Interesting tech, every country fighting illegal border crossing should field it.

Quite puzzling. Also, it appears not all of them have been upgraded by the Israelis.
About eight or nine years ago the details of the Kenya government tender briefing for the upgrade of the AMLs were still available online. It was titled "AML-245 Vehicle Modernisation" and logged as part of a public database of similarly archived KDF tender requests which I haven't been able to locate since.

BTW, if anybody knows which web site I'm talking about and can post a link, I would be most grateful. smiley

Anyway, according to my (admittedly hazy) recollection the request for tender said it was for the modernisation of 42 AMLs. Kenya purchased 82. Which means if accurate only about half the fleet was modernised by Israel. I don't know the reason for this.

There are currently three types of AMLs being operated by the KDF, which I've included photos of below: the AML-60, the AML-90 Lynx, and the Israeli upgraded AML-90.

The KDF AML-90s upgraded by Israel have the following distinct features, which I've circled in red: 1) the boxlike laser rangefinder, 2) new turret search light, 3) new squarish external gunner's sight assembly, and 4) new water-cooled engine with a very prominent exhaust louvre, similar to that on the Eland.

this ought to be the role of UAVs.

i believe a kenya forum member already posted this story about kenya acquiring a Hi-Tech Ground Surveillance system For Border Security.

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have acquired hi-tech ground surveillance systems from navigation and security surveillance specialist Kelvin Hughes (Stand S4-110) company.

Kelvin Hughes signed a contract with Kenya Army for its SharpEye SxV radar system.

The Kelvin Hughes -SharpEye SxV radar system is destined for deployment to Kenya against illegal border movements, trafficking and terrorist activities.

This is in tandem with the Republic of Kenya’s strategic plan for border security which includes erecting a wall along the border with Somalia.

The Kelvin Hughes -SharpEye SxV radar system was acquired by C4 Planning Solutions of Blythe, Georgia, USA, along with the Kelvin Hughes CxEye display and interface software, to be installed in ground surveillance radars for the Kenyan armed forces.

Hemmersbach Rhino Force is the most effective conservation army in Southern Africa that fights against the illegal poaching of one of the most endangered species on the planet. Their teams use innovative tactics and technologies to prevent killing of rhinos, taking action against poaching and to expose and confront all other illegal activities in the bush.

Av seen the AW 109 fly back and forth every day from NAF base Kaduna, I earlier thought they were using it to transport top military officials from Kaduna to abuja.

The permanent solution is to export the rhino to safer countries like Australia and the US. The local rhino will be extinct because our own authorities are cashing in on its demise.

Where is it operational? Definitely not around the Mozambican/Swazi/SA borders. It's a freeway of illegal crossings - its like the border doesn't exist.

Nowhere is safe. A few days ago they opened up with assault rifles and hacked off a rhino's horn -at the Paris Zoo shocked!

as long there is demand , there will be no dearth of suppliers

u kill 10 poachers 100 will take their place . the cycle will continue

best option threaten to start killing the pandas /other endangered species directly or indirectly

atleast this was communicated indirectly to the one country which is fueling demand for rhino horns , if they kept a blind eye to killing/supply/marketing of indian rhinos.

needless to say there was a significant drop in poaching , so much so that a paid BBC lackey ran a report on human rights of rhino poachers grin, as forest rangers have shoot on sight orders , more so shoot to kill orders on anybody who encroaches rhino reserves.

best thing is BBC got slapped 5 years ban on filming in India for this 'animal aka poacher' right activism grin , so much so for back stabbing western animal right activism isnt it

next to go is PETA another fuuking useless western animal rights NGO grin
