Op is saying his personal opinion.

This is Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Op, please explain this.

Only preachers who read from King James Version are the people I take serious.
Jesus said that paying of tithe is less important than living a righteous life

Tithing was under the Mosaic law aimed at supporting the tribe of Levi for they had no inheritance in the land. Read Leviticus18:21,24. This is because the Levites were to provide spiritual instruction and to serve as priests in the tabernacle and later the temple. 2 Chronicles 35:3, Malachi2:7
However, the Levites were to give a tenth of what they received Numbers18:25-29, Nehemiah 10:37

Tithe is 10% abi. What of churches that put number on tithe cards of members? Is that not an avenue to know what members earn as salary or is it biblical to know how much people drop as tithe?

Re: 10 Bible Verses On Tithing by Nigeriadondie: 11:17am On Mar 12, 2017
If an Israelites were to contribute money instead of the farm produce, the person would add a fifth of the monetary value of his tenth part.
It is very important to note this point that the donor of the tithe benefited from his/her donation. Read Deuteronomy12:4-7,11,17,18 also Deuteromomy14:22-27
Also, another set of people who benefitted were foreigners and the less privileged. Deuteronomy14:28,29 as well as Deuteronomy 26:12

Where are the chapters supporting the TEN COMMANDMENTS?

I know they will quickly cover up by saying, "we now in the era of GRACE. The TEN COMMANDMENTS are old fashion" grin grin

The WORLD is dead with corruption today because the TEN COMMANDMENTS have been relegated to the background.

Who is deceiving who? Am tired for Christianity, when they see good things from Old testament or chapter that suit them They extract it and make use of it but if the chapter didn't favour them,
till they condemn it. all u shall hear is old thing has passed away, this is time of grace, Time of laws has passed. Tithing first mention in old TESTAMENT. Why condemn other laws in old TESTAMENT?

Many people have argued much on this subject on and off social media especially on Nairaland.com, that's why i decided to bring to here

1. Because God commands it:

"A tithe of all you produce is the Lord's and it is Holy." (Leviticus 27:30)

2. Because Jesus commands it:

"Yes, you should tithe, and you shouldn't leave the more important things undone either." (Matthew 23:23) Tithing was the only thing Jesus commended the Pharisees for doing right!

3. Because tithing shows that God has first place in your life:

"The purpose of tithing is to teach you to put God first place in your life". (Deuteronomy 14:23 (LB) If God does not have first priority in your finances, He isn't really first in your life and your witness for Christ is false!

4. Because it reminds you that everything you have was given to you by God:
"Always remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the ability to produce wealth." (Deuteronomy 8:18) Rather than feeling "I'm giving God 10% of my money," realize God is letting you keep 90% of HIS money. Without God's help, you would have nothing.

5. Because tithing expresses your gratitude to God for helping you earn income:
"How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me?" (Ps. 116:12) Here's the answer: "Each of you should bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you." (Deuteronomy 16:17)

6. Because refusing to tithe is stealing from God:

If you don't tithe, God says you are using money that rightfully belongs to Him. "God says: "Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me!' But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' God says: 'In tithes and offerings. Bring your whole tithe to My house.'" (Malachi 3:8-19) (God has a right to whatever He asks for from you.)

7. Because tithing gives God a chance to prove to you that He exists and wants to bless you:

"Bring me your tithe. Test me in this," says the Lord, "and see if I won't throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it, I will prevent pests from devouring your crops and the vines in your fields will be protected from plagues."

This is one of the most amazing promises in the Bible. God actually offers you a challenge. He says "I dare you!" Start tithing and watch what happens!" He not only promises to bless you with more, but He also promises to protect what you already have! In the Bible, tithing is the only way given that you can prove God exists. Start tithing and get ready for God's amazing blessings!

8. Because it is essential to spiritual growth:
"Just as you grow in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in earnestness and love...see that you also grow in the grace of giving." Many Christians remain spiritual babies because they disobey God by not tithing.

9. Because tithing shows you really love God!
"Where your treasure is, your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21) Wherever you put your money is where your affection is going to be. Every time you give back to God you are drawn closer to Him. You may say you love God, but 2 Corinthians 8:8 says that you’re giving tests the sincerity of your love. You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving.
Jesus said, "If you really love me, do what I command." (John 14:15)

10. Because tithing is an investment for eternity:
Jesus told us to "Store up treasures in heaven." (Matthew 6:19-20) How do you do that? By investing your money in helping people get to heaven! Most of the things you spend your money on will not even last for ten years, much less last for eternity.

Please study Deuteronomy 12-18 very well.. What happens to the 90% of your income? Seriously think and tithing was done to improve the lives of the poor.. God had the perfect plan for us.. Study please and you are now the temple of God

Like someone asked, who said tithe means money in the bible?

I'm not a fan of tithing to church. It's better to help poor people, and will make the world a better place which also pleases God.

That is exactly who tithe are meant for, go to Deuteronomy 14 verse 22 to 29. You can stress that verse 29 very well and you will see the 3 set of people God ask us to give our tithe to.

Even house of Levi are entitled to tithe because they have no inheritance, can u say that about your pastor? Does he/she not have business under ground?
Does he not collect contract?

For emphasis sake, let me quote it

Deuteronomy

14:22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
14:23 And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.
14:24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:14:25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:
14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
14:27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.
14:28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

14:29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

You can check the bolden and confirm who God truly want you to pay your tithe to, don't be deceived by any pastor who says bring all your tithte to me.
Re: 10 Bible Verses On Tithing by Nigeriadondie: 11:36am On Mar 12, 2017
The tithing arrangement primarily to care for the priests from the tribe of Levi aa they were not given a land as an inheritance so they could not engage in agricultural activities which was the mainstay of their economic activities to support themselves materially. So to compensate for that they were given the tithe as an inheritance while other tribes of Israel had lands as an inheritance. Leviticus 27:30-32, Numbers 18:21,24
Failure to support them made the priests neglext their ministerial activities. Nehemiah13:10,11
Please not this very important point we had a literal temple and there was need for a priest to officiate in the temple, offer animal sacrifices to atone for sins but now that is no more required including the tithing arrangement
We are no longer under the Mosaic law or the law of Moses and as such all the practices under the law of Moses such as circumcision, animal sacrifices even the literal temple is no more which was destroyed by the Romans (Matthew 23:37,38; Luke 21:20-24) And if it is no more we dont need a priest and if we dont need a priest we dont need to tithe as the law of Moses has been replaced with the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2, Hebrews7:12; Ephesians 2:15; Colossians2:13,14

Re: 10 Bible Verses On Tithing by dukecharles(m): 11:38am On Mar 12, 2017
OP stop twisting the bible for your selfish interest. Christ actually said "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees...Mt 23 vs 23, Luke 11 vs 42. Remember the parable of the Publican and the Pharisee, cf Luke 18 vs 9 to 14, He condemned the Pharisees who pays tithe . Christ never supported the practice of tithe. Jesus , his apostles and early Christians never tithed .
Tithe was paid to maintain the tribe of Levi (orphans and widows)got no inheritance Cf Joshua 13 vs 33
Christ and peter paid Tax, encouraged cheerful giving but not tithing. Those who pay tithe are slaves to it,The law makes you a slave like Hagar. (Galatians 4:24).
Christians are not under the law because of the salvivic work of Christ.
Christ has abolished the law which was a wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:15)

Tithing is a law,If the law worked God would have used it to save us. (Galatians 3:21), To go back to the law after embracing faith is “stupid”. (Galatians 3:1). Be properly guided.

It is only selfishness that makes many of us preacher over hyped the issue of tithes. It's because these days local assemblies prefer monetary instrument to run affairs of ministry.
But the real thing is that God wants our most precious thing if not our all. Tithe is not our most precious thing to offer. it's value varies from person to person. A young man earning one million may be paying because it's of little value to him because the remaining 90% can sustain him, while another young man earning 20 thousand may not be able to pay because the 100% is not able to take care of his need. We all have our strength and weakness and as such has something to give which is precious to God.
God wants everyone to give in line with his strength. To whom much is given to whom much is expected. Tithe is good. But God wants more than that to prove our love for him. Many that pay tithes pays because of other motives other than absolute love for God.

This is my problem with my fellow Christian brethren. They know how to twist and modify the verses to suit what they want you to believe. As you all can see, most of the bible verses are from old testament, and the few one in the new testament talks about grace and not tithing. I have said and I will say it again, tithing is a Jewish tradition where landed tribes (other eleven tribes of Israel) gave part of the income to the Levites and Kohanim (the tribe that are priests). Unless a pastor shows me he has lineage to the levites, ain't paying no tithes
thanks jaree.. I was bou to call the OP an idiot.. But u jux said what's on my mind.
It's funny how we Christians select what and what not to call old testament tradition to suit our religious madness.
The Silly OP had to twist and rearranged Matthew 23:23 to desperately support tithing..
Infact, that Matthew 23:23 he quoted referred to tithing as a matter of little or no importance, sighting justice mercy and faithfulness as more important than one old Jewish tradition we av selfishly and blindly refuse to see it as not part of the new covenant.
It's even in modern day xtianity that we rigidly see tithing as giving out money to church and pastors ..when it was not so never will be.

As chrisitians living under the Law of the Chtist no longer under the law of Moses we are no longer under compulsion to give. I repeat we are not under obligation to give as it is NOT COMPULSORY BUT VOLUNTARILY OR WILLINGLY. Jesus himself encourage this type of giving. Read Luke6:38, Luke 18:22
The apostle Peter in imitation of Christ encouraged in Acts 20:35
Also christian giving takes into account that financial circumstance of people differs. Back then as it is now the financial situation of christians were different. Some where poor other rich or just average so people were not cajoled or manipulated or forced to give what they could not afford as most religious leaders today try to make people who could not donate feel guilty of commiting sin. 2 Corinthians 8:12-15 also 2 Corinthians 9:7
Even the widow who dropped little was appreicated or commended by Jesus inpite of the little value of what she had. Mark 12:38-44; Luke 21:1-4. If it were today most pastors wud say that their god is not a poor god so dont make poor donations compelling people to give above their means. Recall what Paul said 2 Corinthians 8:12-15; 9:7
