Should I Move Or Not by J0hnTrevolt(op): 1:45pm On Mar 12, 2017
Please I need ur kind advice ooo. I currently live in a two bedroom flat wit wifey n baby n we pay 300k p/a. Judging by d economic situation in naija im doin everything to cut costs. I jus saw a new 2 bedroom flat dats going for 240k p/a everywhere is tiled except d two rooms whereas where im currently living everywhere is completely tiled with wardrobe and kitchen cabinet and very spacious.
Please is it a good thing/advisable for me to move out from d 300k house to d one of 240k to save 60k yearly. Plz I need ur opinion b4 I move from flying pay to fire. Iv not discussed with wifey cos she will totally object but na my head d rent go still fall on cos wifey doesn't work. Ur advice needed. Tnx

What fraction of your annual salary is the rent? Let's start from there
Re: Should I Move Or Not by Nobody:
Explain to your wife, if she still insists on staying in the same apartment or working something out. Then cut further costs where its possible and God will be your strength.

Side stepping your wife may make things difficult,as they say "can two work together except they agree?".

Wherever you feel its possible....you could also implore her to run a trade that could cushion the costs. One man bringing the money in this era we are in, its quite a feat especially for those who are not so connected.

God go bless!

Do not move yet.

The money you're saving will eventually be used on a carpet (rug) since the two bedroom in the new apartment are untiled.

More money would be spent on moving your appliances and properties.

If you are not careful, you'd also be tempted to make new wardrobes in the new apartment. Your clothes won't stay in the bags for so long, and you will require some fixes in the Kitchen.

My advice: look for a new and cheaper apartment where you wouldn't spend too much on furnishing. It is better to live in a 300k apartment with quality furniture, than live in a 200k with zero furniture.. The money you think you're saving will not be enough to fix the new apartment.

There are lots to also consider. For instance, the distance to your workplace, state of electricity, etc. How much can you save on fuel if you live in apartment A? How much would you spend daily on transportation if you live in apartment B? As you can see, annual rent is just a fraction of the endless expenses.

Rather than worry about how to cut cost, you could consider other sources of income. Increasing your income, though harder to achieve, will always work better than cutting current cost.

Whao. That's a lot in this current economy.
But what's the assurance that they won't review the rent in 2 years when you move to the new place?
