Well I'm not mocking this topic at all. I'm not into the name-calling or insults either. Too old for that. The topic is very misunderstood and controversial. I am Christian so I love my fellow brothers & sisters. But getting to the truth is the issue.
I expect "0" supporters on this. I don't post comments for "likes", however I try to be as respectful as possible. I think I frustrate both the Christians and the "free-thinkers" in here.
A further proper study of this topic is needed.

Speaking in tongues is biblical, yes it is.
It is of the following purposes:
1. It is a sign both to believers and the unbelievers, which is normally an evidence of the believer's baptism in the Holy Spirit.
2. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit to the believer(all those who are in Christ, who also believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit) for the Spiritual edification of the believer.
3. Speaking in tongues with it's interpretation upfront is also a blessing to the body of Christ (THE CHURCH)
ECXPLANATION
1. It is a sign to unbelievers, which is normally an evidence of a believer's baptism in the Holy Spirit -

"Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe."1 Corinthians 14:22

Baptism in the Holy Ghost(Spirit) has far been prophesied of, by prophet Joel in Joel 2:28-29. This prophecy was an outpouring of the Spirit of God which was fulfilled in Act 2:1-4.

Since the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a spiritual experience, which is only received by faith, as no man receives nothing from God expect through faith(James 1:6-7). It is therefore correct to say that this spiritual experience requires a physical manifestation to be "legit" on earth. Therefore, the Holy Spirit impressed upon the heart of the believer who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit to speak in tongues as an evidence of the gift of the Holy Spirit that he/she had received. Speaking in tongues can't be taught by someone or rehearsed or formed abstractly. A believers grows in it, after the baptism of the Holy Spirit, just like a baby grows into speaking properly. How you grow in it depends on how frequent you express yourself in tongues during prayers. There is the tongues of men(the ones spoken of in Act 2:1-. Their is also tongues of angels(1 Corinthians 13:1).
2. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit unto all those who believes (all those who are in Christ, who also believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit) for their Spiritual edification-
God is not partial. The gift of the Holy Spirit which He promised is for all those who believe. How can you believe what you close the door of your heart to?
How can you also receive what you don't believe?

Act 10: 44-45
"While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also."

How?

46-"For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God."

"He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself"

The place of edification is that speaking in tongues is that it built up the spiritual "muscles" of the believer and it does empowers them for exploit.
