Hi Please share how much a new gearbox will cost for an rx300 and how much to repair. My car doesnt reverse anymore, it only drives forward. Please share advice. Also does anyone know a very good mechanic in Ajah?

Budget about 240k.
Gearbox + auxiliary 180-200k
Transmission oil 8-10k
Workmanship - left over balance (depends on your mech)

Loss in reverse was it sudden? Might be a stuck solenoid, of non-functional one. Scan first.

Not all rx300 are 4wheel drive.

Hi, it was very sudden. We were parked and decided to reverse, we put the gear in R and there was a sudden sound that sounded like we hit somebody and after that, we were not able to reverse. Will scan it and find out , Thanks

Something got broken. sad

will recommend a replacement. Is it 4wheel or front wheel?

Correction, its a front wheeler, because there isnt an Aux drive on the gear

RX's don't have differential lock stick, button or knob, even if they're AWD.

Please something similar happened to my RX 300.. the drive stopped moving well and it doesnt enter into reverse anymore..does that mean the gear has knocked completely..like there is nothing that can be done to salvage the situation and how much should be budget be like..plus is it advisable to continue using the car after the gear change?

A lot of things can cause those lovely ladies not to shift well.
Does it have a check engine light on? If yes,

Modified.

Check if you have knock sensor code. The computer will not command 4th gear if it is there.

also knock sensor malfunction code too will disable 4th gear.

I am about to purchase a Nigerian used Lexus RX 300 2003 model.

I notice the following
It has n axle challenge
It uses water as radiator coolant

Every other thing is ok

Please advice me on the way forward

Is your thermostat still installed?

Does your temperature gauge reach the middle at all (or does it ever move from the rest position)?

Usually, 4th gear will not engage in this transmission until the coolant temperature has reached a threshold (usually over 60 deg. C )

Most importantly, perform a scan on the vehicle and post the codes here, or on this thread:

Scan it and post codes here. Most times, the issue is the knock sensor or tps issue. But still run a scan and post codes so we can better advice you.

one sure thing about failed knock sensors/ knock sensor circuits is the very obvious harsh shifting. @ Obajmedia, do you experience harsh shifting?
