tdayof:Nope, only ATR-42s, UAVs and Attack Helicopters are based there. |

Henry240:I noticed a C-130 with camo painting in background of a post that made FP. |

tdayof:i barely noticed it, it's not a C-130 thought, that is a Fokker f27 I think.

tdayof:That's a Fokker MPA, not a C-130. |

frumentius:One would wonder why a Typhoon wasn't brought in... As for the air refueling, they should make a deal with the USAF to allow the Grip boys to play air fueling games in exchange we'll allow them to stay for 2 days in Cape Town. Below is the SAAF refueling (before tanker retirement)

ActivateKruger:We really should not have cancelled our A400M order . With air-to-air refueling our Gripens would not have needed to stop in Ndola, Zambia and Kinshasa, DRC before reaching Bangui.

frumentius:We need those A400Ms, it's either we get them or the airforce starts flying you guys on broomsticks. You know we should also consider the Ilyushin Il-76 (God I hate Russian equipment) and remove the glass nose - we should have some heavy lifting capacity. |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 8:15pm On Mar 14, 2017 |
ActivateKruger:God forbid! That would wreak havoc with our NATO-oriented logistics. What we should do, seeing that we're spending a fortune chartering the damn things on an ad-hoc basis, is take out a rolling 24-month wet lease on about 3 aircraft. |

frumentius:The problem in South Africa is the media's sensational reporting.. You buy anything military related, they'll start talking their ignorance and then before you know the local population is out burning tyres the following day wanting free everything because "there's money to buy weapons". Anyway it's not late, they can still acquire the A400Ms and have them assembled (or partially) at Denel's aviation facility and call it "job creation", that often works.

Henry240:Interesting, but why is it the Niger AKs seem to be using NATO rounds? I was told once that no NATO 7.62mm ammo is usable with the AK-47. Anybody else recall hearing something similar? |
