I really don't understand, maybe it's as a result of the course I studied in the University. I keep suspecting that though, not entirely sure. The purpose of creating this thread anyway is to seek the guidance of Nairalanders who may have been in my shoes as regards studying my course (Philosophy) or known someone, preferably a Nigerian, who studied my course. I would like to know the sought of jobs I should apply for or better still the Industry where my skill and degree would be best appreciated.

Nigeria is annoying...I applied for law but got 72 aggregate as against 75 ...I was given linguistics and African languages...I just entered 400 lvl been thinking abt it for a while, what and were will I work after I grad?....so this semester i bought transfer form #50 k and transferd to psychology so i can at least master in psychology in Europe or America if mayor Trump Wil allow me come.....education in Nigeria needs to be restructured

as far as am concern, philosophy had proved to me that education isn't just all about employment but for empowerment

Young on a serious note philosophy is not appreciated in Africa. That is why we are backward in everything but don't be dismayed. I studied philosophy too and wrote tests for Shell and NNPC. I passed the test for NNPC but as soon as Bubu came he employed his people. Try and develop yourself in the absence of a job, lecture now but I have a diploma in software and Web development as well a ÑIM certificate. You can thrive anywhere.

go for Admin jobs and better still get a hr certification.. just do any job u lay us hands to do.but come to think of it,one guy dat studied philosophy once came to our office to ask after hr,only for hr to see him eventually and d guy was like(let me work with u),hr been one help am but na so she take off

Philosophy is a course I have a huge passion for. For someone with a degree in philosophy, there are few better places to work beside in academics

You are good brov, either take certifications on HRM or CR which are highly sought after in the corporate world or make yourself dynamic with an M.sc in either of them and you are good.

What u study does not count in Nigeria!

I have a BA in Philosophy and have worked in sectors that include the media, bilateral trade, information and communication technology, aviation, investment banking, consulting, FMCG and development finance.

My wife also studied philosophy - she works for a tech firm.

My course-of-study/degree certificate did not get me my first job. Fledging writing skill and extra-curricula activity in the university working on several editorial boards did. The rest as they say is history.

My thoughts: Seek professional certification in PR (NIPR), Advertising (APCON), Marketing (NIMN), HR (CIPM), Digital Marketing (Free Google trainings), Journalism (NUJ) etc.

While seeking your choice certification, volunteer for free with an organisation in your area of interest to build capacity and acquire requisite skills... And everything good will come!

I studied philosophy too. And I filled Philosophy in my JAMB form. 1st and 2nd choices.!

I was departmental President in my final year so the freshers used to come to me and ask: 'where can I work when I graduate?' I used to tell them that Philosophy is a tool that you can use for many things and anything you wish to use it for. You know Presido must have answer now! Lol!

I gave the above response in order to say something AND also because it is true. The issue of career in this day and time has much to do with your passion and that unique contribution you can make, whether in business, politics, non profit, etc.

As someone suggested you may take a professional cause in some career line that interest you. Also there are firms who want a smart graduate who can add value to their organization regardless of course of study. I know such firms may be few.

As for me I have a career in organization architecture. I help build effective human systems.

Apply to graduate school in US. You should consider MA in courses like Sociology, Criminology, Pol. Sc., Econs, Public Policy, and apply to jobs in NGOs, research firms, prison services, etc. when you are done. You are better off outside Nigeria. Good luck.

There are jobless lawyer still. What you study in university should be a foundation if you graduated from non professional discipline. Nothing is guaranty even if you study medicine. My ex girlfriend studied speech pathology and is she jobless. She is an American in studied in one of the best university in her state. The reality is simple, identify your passion and go for it. if it's your passion, you will always find a way to excel in it.
@ Op, As much i would love to advice you to go into professional certifications, that does not guaranty you a job still. What i will advice you is to deep search your soul and find your passion and you are good to go...
