You can always advice yourself and other's. Lmao. You better go and find handwork, or do PhD to be a professor. Sociology, psychology and philosophy may also get work in Human Resources.
they can get work anywhere.
People should just stop going to school to acquire certificates and use them to get jobs. They should learn to survive without thinking of their ecadamic qualifications.
If he had acquired a skillvsince he came out from school he would have been a master by now.

Well, it is not a must you work for someone. Think of what to do to keep yourself economically busy. Preferably, you can consider going into farming. Going to school is not all about working in a company. You better disabuse your mind about that now before it's too late.
that's the essence of going to school. To discover your abilities and not go about asking people to take u. I studied the same course together with psychology but right from time I have never wished to work for someone. I don't think I will be needing my cert. All one needs is to apply what one has learnt in school to real life and move on.
Good evening.

studied philosophy and psychology at the same university and I'm confident I can work anywhere cos those two courses are good. Didn't get the law I applied for but I got to love my combination.
People should stop going to school just because they want to get job. It will frustrate u if u don't get one soon enough.

Acquire a skill and thank me later. With critical thinking and examination, you will be able to discover that innate idea in you that can make you an employer of Labour.

I studied Philosophy and I have had no regret. I am currently a VIO. Before that I have done some number of jobs. Your not being able to secure a job yet is a general Nigerian thing and has nothing to do with your course of study. It is not as if everyone who studied science based courses in Nigeria all have jobs already. Even doctors now search for job in Nigeria. As a Philosopher when I talk at my office and everywhere people keep quiet and marvel at the amount of problem solving skills you have. Do not let anybody deceive you, you should know the kind of discipline you studied and be ready to explode when you get the chance.

Thank you sir.

It's sad that many in our country don't know the unusual egregious importance of philosophy. That's why this country is as intellectually backward as it is. Philosophers are actually highly sought for in the media, administration, marketing and basically Law by those who know what it entails.

I am disappointed a philosophy graduate (a 2:1 graduate for that matter) will be asking a question like this? After all those years studying ALL branches of knowledge with the tool of LOGIC?

You should know what to do na. If many Nigerians are so ignorant about our discipline, why can't we educate them via our uncommon wherewithal and dexterity in all fields. Philosophers, as Plato said, are actually Kings.

I can relate..i studied Philosophy at the University of Nigeria. It came as a result of not getting Law my first degree. did that stop me after Nysc..NAH.... I took a training in Customer service since i adore the field and i am doing fine. I am nt saying it was easy, nah it was not..bt it is a normal course, it is quite enlightening, it broadens ur knowledge and besides when we allow those who know literally nothing about the course to talk us down. It gets to u, they tell u how it is an archaic course of study or how it is an abstract thing nd can not be used in the society. It makes me laugh. Cus Plato argues that philosopher kings should be the rulers as we aim to discover the ideal polis. To b honest, no course is the ultimate, everyone is fighting to succeed. No one will ask u what u studied bt will ask what you can do. Dnt sit n ponder, learn basic office tools..u cn work as a customer service agent n any related field. Or u go for a professional masters degree. I currently study international law. So never say never. These write up is a wake up call to all philosophers. Stop allowing sentiments n naysayers who know nothing abt philosophy have a say. Corgito Ego Sum...Esto Vir
Leave them jare.... Let them keep on berating us at their own peril. It's really sad that most of us who studied philosophy end up with regrets. But one thing I know is that after four years studying philosophy, one can never remain the same ever again because one should be able to see the world from the perspective of the FORMS.

when I'm being confidence that I can't work under anybody but you're here lamenting for employment

how much can this employer give you that would cater for your needs? when would you start to build your wealth being a "civil servant"

as far as am concern, philosophy had proved to me that education isn't just all about employment but for empowerment

I'm a proud philosophy graduate...
thank your very much. Philosophy does teach people to wait for solutions, it tell s to to seek for answers to your philosophical questions just like the question op has asked.
In my next life I will still study philosophy again. I'm still serving but I know within me that I didn't spend 4years studying philosophy just to come out and begin to carry file up and down.

There are other combinations such as psy/Soc psy/Rel, pol/Phil, eco/Phil and so on.

Its not about your course. The story is same for all courses in Nigeria today. Just try and equip yourself with a relevant skill and you will be grateful.

I wish you best of luck.

Okeyyy, I got that!

If you did go true my post very well, I touched this, why settle for what we don't love in the first place? I mean why settle for the less? Just because we wanna be in school? That's why there are many jobless guys out there, because they never love what they did in the first place.

Most higher institutions in Nigeria will easily take you in when you beat their cut off mark, now that's the reality, many guys who aspired to be a doctor ended up studying physiology, microbiology etc at the end of the day, they were left confused wondering where to path their saddle at in life.

You said "wht settle for the less" consider the age factor in this present age Nigeria. The productive age according to recruiters starts from 26yrs. So shouldn't you factor in the fact that if you waste too much of your time rejecting those course, it may affect your chances of making NYSC and with the much emphasis been placed on discharge certificate rather than the exemption letter, your employabilty could also be affected.

Baba, you better go find better hand work like carpentry.
Here is another option, get your masters, Doctorate and become a lecturer. Teach students who will also come here to ask the same question. We would give them the same advice and the cycle would continue.

I studied philosophy in LASU and UNILAG. BA and MA level. I worked in a .media house, newspaper reporter for years before I resigned to start my own printing and publishing business. We are not doing too bad.
Start with what you have. Even specialised courses are gloated today. Nigeria is in big fix as per job creation. Start something. no matter how small and very soon you would fly

Hello,
The question you're asking now is the first question you suppose to asked yourself before proceeding on any chosen discipline, I might not really be able to give you any tangible advice here, but I'm sure many will do.

There's always a passion that drives us towards our goal in life, if the passion is not there before studying in university/or any higher institution, then probably you're studying in there to get out of home boredom or excape societal lynching.

But anyways, why you keep on searching for a job, you can raise some money and hone your skills in whatever you love to do, have a/some professional certificate(s), that gives you an edge in the labour market and still makes you a standalone or even labour employer.
Regards.

Bros, you probably shouldnt have bothered saying anything after saying the emboldened.

The truth is, over 60% of Nigerian graduates never ended uo studying their dream course. As a matter of fact, I am a typical example. I aimed for Medicine and Surgery, but ended up with Microbiology. Infact, folks in my department were popularly referred to as the "unfortunate Doctors".

Listen Op, when life throws unpleasant stuffs at you, it behoves on you to make pleasant stuffs out of it. Most employers out there dont care about what you studied but what you can bring to the table, such as practical knowledge, skills, passion for whatever you do and a proven ability to learn and adapt to daunting situations (notice i didnt even mention experience. This is because some employers are willing to give you a try irrespective of how greenhorned you are).

Your 2.1 grade even gives you a further advantage. A 2.1 grade and a certain age benchmark (26years or a little less) are usually the only criteria for acceptance into the Graduate Trainee scheme of The Big 4s (KPMG, PwC, Delloitte and Ernst and Young) and most other multinationals and banks.

You could start from there, bro. Dont give in to despair and self-pity because of what you studied. Develop, invest and believe in yourself and you will be amazed how much you will achieve in a few years time.

All the best
