Thanks so much for this. I am in this same situation, my baby is 13 months old but has never slept through the night. I tried doing the water thing 2 weeks ago but she fell sick few days after I started. I had to continue with the braestfeeding o, my braests have suffered. I will attempt it again though.

Please mamas I need home remedies for catarrh that refused to stop in toddlers. Thanks.
It is well. Even till now, he's still not sleeping through the night but its much better than before. I pray your daughter improves too cos it can be exhausting. The Lord is your strength.

Please Mamas, what's your take on this idea of giving teething remedies to babies who are showing signs of teething?

Baby is not showing any severe symptom like diarhea or fever, or boils...but folk still insist that babies should be given drugs to prevent terrible symptoms.

I'm at a crossroad now, I don't even know the one to follow again.

It's not like we have seen any teeth sef. all she just does is produce excess saliva and then sometimes, it looks like she's crying cos tears keep coming out from one eye.

Cc. Fyngal1

No need for any medication except she is visibly showing signs of distress.

The tears could just be something is irritating her eyes and have no corelation to teething.

Some people decide not to give anything and that is absolutely fine. Me i have all - teething powder, teething gel and paracetamol.

In all honesty i dont really know if the powder has any effect but i know the gel works as its a numbing agent and its effect is instant, the paracetamol will work eventually but only after about 30 mins so i tend not to give except she has a fever which is usully flu related as my dd is in daycare now and we have a new case of cold every week.

Apart from the pain and perhaps fever, i dont see how any medicationis going to prevent diarrhea and boils due to teeting.

Before her teeth came out i gave her a teething ring as she could chew the made-in-China out of it. I sometimes put it in the freezer / fridge as the cold helped But i only gave medication when all else failed and my baby was crying, uncomfortable and i can tell its her gums disturbing her.

My selection of teehers/ teething rings.

Personal favourite is "sophie" the giraffe. It comes in 2 styles the other one is much bigger but my dd started teething very early and this version was much easier to hold.

The yellow and orange ring one came as a 2 part cannot find the other one.

The green and white one is filled with fluid and you can put in the fridge as the fluid retains the cold for longer more than the other ones. It may just be this brand bought we thought it a bit hard and myDH didnt trust it not to leak and dd swallowing the fluid So we never really used this one much but read good reviews anout this style of teethers online.

The elephant one..... welll its good but for a younger child i couldnt work out how to sterilize it because of the fabric so that is my only gripe with that one so i never used it much in he early days.

Sophie the Giraffe can grow mold in it (insane parents cut some up) and the manufacturer had to announce that you are not supposed to put it in water. Plus some weird babies choked on theirs (my brother says "kids whom evolution has deemed unworthy because how dumb is that kid?!" ). Also, when you lose Sophie at Radisson Blu and you are crying and mention how much it costs, more experienced parents will insult you for being daft enough to spend that much on a #$@! Teething toy and your mother will tippex your name out of her will. And your younger kids will forever hate your firstborn because Mummy spent so much on a teething toy and on Aden & Anais blankets and all the lastborn got was a fairly used tricycle from Idumota and old wrapper to nibble on. cry

Just talking theoretically.... Not like I did that or lost any thing... Nothing to see here, move along... lipsrsealed

Rhukie:
something for him to eat for 8 hours

oh wow! that is like at least 5 meals or

3 main meals and 2 snacks:

Ok lets see....

BREAKFAST: for your sanity i will just leave this one to be cereals. so you can pre-pack the cereal with normal powdered milk and all they need to do is add warm water. get a few varieties so he doesnt get bored with the same thing day in day out

Weetabix or equivalent wheat biscuits is good
Cornflakes - crush it a bit and add a small scoop or two of babyrice with milk,
rice cripsies or equivalent rice cereal with a bit of baby rice and milk
golden morn - i actually find this too sweet but hey ho wetin man go do?
Cerelac and any other baby cereals

SNACK 1
toast or sandwich - bread with either simple butter, butter and jam, peanut butter, avocado, chooped egg & mayonaise, sardine & mayo, Blended chicken and mayo (a thin spread is all you need) cut into at least 2 portions to make it easier for him to finger feed himself.

veg pieces - boiled carrot sticks, cucumber slices, half an avocado (rub cut ends with lemon juice and wrap in cling film to stop discoloration.

prepared friuts - orange segments, sliced apples (dip in orange juice to prevent discolouration), pineapple slices, watermelon slices, banana (just put a whole one in or it will discolour ), mango slices

milk: you can just measure the right amonunt o powdered milk ( nido, peak or whatever ) into a sippy cup and they just fill with water. you may want to mark where they should fill the water up to if the sippy cup is a big one.

dry snacks - biscuits like cream crackers work well, bread sticks, flat bread (the type they use for shawarma) cut it up and

whole hard boiled egg you can leave it in the shell, and they can peel it when they are ready to feed your baby

purreed mango and baby rice also keeps well if put in container with a tight lid.

LUNCH - this will depend on what facilities they have to warm the food but a few ideas below just make sure they warm all hot meals thoroughly:

pasta with tomato sauce and some veg either carrot or sweet corn, you can either chop the veg or you can blend them and mix with the sauce.

pottage - yam or plantain - with or without palm oil,

boiled potato - irish or sweet/ yam, with butter and some fish.

fried rice/ jollof/ white/ coconut rice make it a but soggy.

pancakes

cous cous with mixed veg and sauce,

moin-moin

ripe plantain with sauce

SNACK 2 - same as for snack 1 above

SUPPER - same as for Lunch above

hope this helps

Hello everyone.
sorry for being MIA. I will be back fully real soon.
I know someone who is willing to work as a nanny. She is a mother of 4, eldest is in SS2 but she really needs a job.
She is willing to come in and do cleanings or watch over kids till the evenings. She can also live in and go home on Friday evenings to resume on early Monday mornings. Whichever way you choose is fine by her.
Although she isn't literate, she is easy to get along with and hardworking. I can vouch for her because she is family by marriage.

There is a Chinese version being sold in Nigeria for N3200. Please, the original Sophie Vulli is made only in France with very safe BPA-free plastics and hand painted with food grade paints. That is what makes it safe for babies. The Chinese one is made with random plastic (most likely laced with heavy metals like cheap plastic usually is, even pure water sachet is not safe) and the paints are synthetic. So buy at your own discretion (there are other teething toys that are safe and it's not like your baby will miss your N12, 000 plus Vulli Sophie whilst you bawl and ask hotel staff "una don see wan giraffe lyke dat??"

I really don't like seeing when our people go and get the cheap version/made for Africa version, of something safe and pass it on to consumers, all for profit. Things like feeding bottles, teats, creams, mens and co, manage the Western version. Cheap gets expensive in the long run and so many issues happen with it, so many health concerns. See what's happening with Coca-Cola. And so many companies do the same, the refined imported fuel sold here that we breathe in daily and cough out is banned in EU (because it's poor quality). The safety levels applied To African products are non existent. No-one cares about Africa's health, we are expendable and resources are scarce.

cc helovesme, .

any signs of cold or fever?
is he cranky/fussy?

teething shouldn't stop him from swallowing food.

if he experiences pain or discomfort in his throat whilst swallowing, then he won't be too keen on food. you can take him to the hospital to have him checked and rule out any infection like tonsillitis.

I agree.

the recently published court case involving nafdac and Nigerian breweries is shocking.

who would have thought that coke, fanta, etc produced in nigeria under the coca-cola worldwide franchise will fail UK/EU food saftey standards to the extent that they were all confiscated.

if you live in a cold climate area, catarrh in toddlers are like 5 and 6. olbas oil, eucalyptus oil, feeding them fruits are known to help.

i hope you are not overdressing her. Nigeria is HOT. there is no need for multiple layers of clothing, multiple/thick shawls, thick body suits, wool hat, etc. heat encourages these skin irritations to thrive.

so you need to expose her skin and just have her where one layer of clothing especially when indoors. the same rule should apply outdoors too.

that said, what soap/lotion do you use on her skin? you might need to get something else.

some mums with similar experience on this thread have mentioned bathing the baby with a particular red leaf or so . cant remember the name. maybe someone can help.

Good afternoon mamas
Please I noticed my ds hair is gradually turning brown at the tips. I've been using Nycil baby oil for his hair and I bath him with Nycil baby soap. I also wash his hair everytime I bath him and I bath him twice a day everyday.
What can I do to stop the whole hair from changing color?

Also he has started licking/sucking/chewing his hands. I thought it was a sign of hunger but when I give him breast he will refuse when I give him formula he will refuse. He equally sucks his tongue since in the womb

You know that soap is chemical, it can lead to discoloration.
You wey kuku be neat freakgrin I just dey imagine how Spik and span the hair will be looking by the time you are through with it.

Zaynie (Get well soon) kiss says it's not cool to always wash the hair, but Mbok, I couldn't resist pouring water and tin tini soap and I now wash mine once a day.

Then during the weekend I Wash well with soap.

mothers pls advice me on what to do o, kinda in a mess right now. Öne of my student came with drinks and cake to school today to celebrate her birthday, i wasnt aware that there's a ban òn the celebration of birthday in the school, she neva informed me as her class teacher dat she'll celebrate her bday in schøol today. When i and some teachers got to knw abt it, we adviced them to do it quietly after closing hours, they called me when they were abt to start my intentiön was to go there and pray for her. But some other teachers heard their noise and told them to report themselves to the school authority. I tried to beg for them to jux take the stuffs home becos everythn will fall bk on me at the end of the day as i am their class teacher. At the end of the day i took the issue to the principal, cos i knw most of the teachers there they like to spite or implicate others. The principal said they should have involved the school, my mind was still not settled cos i was scared that the proprietor will still hear abt it so i reported the case to the proprietor, and he asked to see the student, but i feel bad abt the whole issue
