Woke Up 3AM Only To Discover My Ac Was On Fire... by Rawlings120(op):
I can't stop thanking God for life... Woke up 3am last night only to discover that my air conditioning System was on fire.... And there was light which means the fire could have affected the entire building.. my saving grace was that I live on the ground floor which is not a ceiling roof. else I think it would have been a different Story by now. pls this is so Unusual any opinions from the house on what might have been the cause? so we here can be more educated on this for future avoidance. thanks

Thank God it didn't become a disaster.

AC ignition usually arises from the motor overheating due to a voltage that is too high, faulty electrical wiring and/or installation.

You should clean it often to prevent dirt collecting around the motor, this could prevent overheating.

Get a stabiliser to control the voltage.

Use the proper fuse which is meant for the appliance to prevent burning.

Just do proper maintenance and installation so it won't happen again.
Cheers!

What brand of AC is it? Do you use a stab/surge protector? Any other device in the house affected?

All these near-burn experiences today sef

Most people do not know that there should be a routine maintenance on ACs just like cars which includes cleaning the filters and dusting the components, we just continue running the unit till their is a fault.

Use the proper fuse which is meant for the appliance to prevent burning.

Just do proper maintenance and installation so it won't happen again.

Who did the maintenance?
Did he touched the electrical connection?
Do you have anti surge protection for the unit?
You really need to get to the root cause for lessons learnt and to prevent reoccurrence.
The incident could have killed you.
