Mr El-Rufai, you have stirred the hornets nest. All these guys you subtly referred to will probably come for your government.

He has some valid points except:

1. VAT moving to 10%. This has no advantage to the common man on the street. What FIRS should do is to ensure that more people do pay taxes as and when do. Compliance level is very poor in tax payment in Nigeria.

2. Involving India and China: This is good but it is better if indigenization or what we call Nigerian Content is preached more. We should avoid neo-colonization. At this age, we need more Dangotes, More Adenugas, etc.

This is well thought through advice. We hope Mamman Daura/Muhammed Buhari take heed of this

Anyone suggesting that Buhari should run for re-election is operating with half a brain, at the most.

The man isn't physically well enough to complete one term, he has never had the mental acumen, has plunged the nation into its worst position in decades (the first time he was head of state) so why should he run again. Let him retire and die in Duara. He has no business being president.

HAH:
Am impressed, this is what you get from the knowledgeable person, clearly Buhari has the charisma and love of th people because of his anticorruption stand, but sadly he lacks the capacity to lead, this is a fact as evidenced by recent civil war among his kitchen cabinet members.

All the things elrufai said are true and if implemented we will get out of our doldrums but honestly Buhari cannot do it as I doubt if he even understands some of the things elrufai emphasised on . Imagine this letter was written to Buhari since September last year but 7 months after nothing has been done, this tells you Buhari lacks the intellectual capacity to take us to promise land.

Buharis anti corruption stance is very commendable but that is only one of many things needed to prosper

By the way I was a Buharist but am very disappointed. Kudos Nasir El-Rufai
What 'stance' has he taken? How can a man who failed to reveal his health status to the nation be a man of 'integrity'? How can a man who refused to proffer his educational documents prior to election claim to be a man who cares about the protocol of democracy?

How can you be anti-corruption when you claim that a man whose money is still being returned to Nigeria (almost 20 years after his death) was not corrupt?

Is his own party not full of the same thieves that he said he wanted to purge.

Did El-Rufai not unjustly enrich himself by way of corrupt practices whilst FCT minister?

jobs which Nigerians are able to do? I'm sorry the truth is ....we have not been able to manage these companies ourselves... let the assets be sold. abi who have been in control of these unprofitable looting conduits called national assets all the while. call it self hate or anything.... the bitter truth is that we are not efficient managers... the incompetence of Discos is my witness to this....ajaokuta....etc...we have to understudy the efficiency and lean management methods of the Chinese(na apprenticeship be that).

actually...the his VAT argument is valid because we lack a comprehensive data base just like he said.....how can you tax who doesn't exist on your data base without leaving room for double taxation or arbitrary taxation or even outright tax evasion?. VAT system can be monitored easily than income tax etc. I think he is right.....reduce income tax as a palliative for businesses....increase VAT.

Re: 10 Things El-rufai Wants Buhari To Do In His Letter To The President by Birikiti:
I think people should separate personalities from issues.

El Rufai has raised cogent, valid points and I'm sure If any President is bold enough to implement these points, then Nigeria would be on the way to serious, sustainable development.

I'm particularly excited about the sale of moribund properties like Ajaokuta Steel, Refineries etc. Instead of being a drain on the nation's resources, selling them will free up useful capital as well as add jobs and productivity to the economy.

Also interesting is the point on offering expired Oil Mining licences to China and India. This will instantly give the nation enough dollars to boost the Foreign Reserves and improve the value of the naira. Yes, you got it....it will also automatically reduce inflation.

So El Rufai has raise valid points really.

However, I'm wondering why he is silent about the vast, rich, game changing deposits of Nickel discovered in southern Kaduna. Proper exploitation can turnaround the economy of the northern states and provide more than enough jobs to the teeming Nigerian youth.

Gov El Rufai, please add that to your list
Re: 10 Things El-rufai Wants Buhari To Do In His Letter To The President by ElSherriff: 11:42am On Mar 17, 2017
Good way to start...these are rather political than developmental if you ask me. I did not see his entire communique but I believe these would also help:

Start a deliberate education policy to raise budgetary allocation to the education sector to 30% and do this systematically-varying the increase on a yearly basis. Restructure the educational sector by reviewing our public learning systems, institute special schools for the talented to rival the private schools and ensure a deliberate employment is carried out. Federal scholarships but be social investments and not just grants to students to travel out of Nigeria and remain abroad. They must be compelled to come back to help develop the sector. Start a deliberate R and D policy for every sector in the country.

Rejuvenate the health sector. Saudis have a deliberate policy to ensure one doctor to 60 Saudis within a specified period and most of these doctors are sourced from Nigeria. Revamp the health sector by building mega medical villages in all States of the country...they will serve dual purposes of training and research as well as ensure medicare is available. Then ensure all public officials patronize them. Of course if they value their personal health care, they will ensure its sustainability.

Develop the power sector much more than what we have presently. Explore ways of sustainable energy generation by encouraging alternative energy sources. For areas where solar energy can be harnessed, divert national electricity to other areas and see the government of such areas develop their alternative energy sectors.

Incorporate the private sector in crude oil refinery, not necessarily by outright sales, but through public private partnership. And fast track the modular refinery licensing processes.

Explore trade agreements with other countries of the world. Our balance of trade can be improved if we look into trade agreements with other countries, our import/export window is too narrow...USA, China, Japan...which else? There are emerging economies in the world that can spur Nigeria's foreign business. The foreign minister should be made to earn his keep.

As an avid sports lover, this is just a gold mine waiting to be exploited. Iceland had a deliberate football development policy targeting under 15 boys in the 2000s that gave us the Sigmudsons, Gudjursen, Siggurdson, etc. We leave our football much to chance when we can earn foreign direct investments from footballers. Spot them, nurture them, sign them on commercial management terms with a football consultancy arm of NFF and export them as professionals. Earn your returns on your investments and they will definitely return to invest in Nigeria.

Finally, our internal security is nothing to write home about. It takes much more than energy to convince a foreigner to come into Nigeria. You need blood and sweat.

We shall get it.
