Hi there, Your passion for flying is great and I once were in your shoes, you have to be resilient and NEVER let your dream die.
There are a number of companies who will sponsor you to flying school if you pass their assessment. Check Bristow Helicopters, Caverton Helicopters, OAS helicopters, Nestoil Aviation give Emirates website a look or even Dana Airlines.

Aero Contractors and Arik used to train but times have changed.

Hello Nairalanders,
I am an undergraduate in a Nigerian university and I totally dislike my course of study. I never picked it anyways.

My passion is to become a pilot, and I'm ready to give it up here to pursue the dream. But I currently don't know how to go about this.

I need help about aviation schools I can apply to, both in nigeria and abroad, when thier application opens and insight about how friendly the fees are.

Please, I'll be grateful if anyone can give me insight of those that gives scholarships or loan to students, that can be paid back when once starts practising.

I'll greatly appreciate if the Mods can let this grace the front page.

My brother, I've been through this since 2004, I got admission into Phoenix East Aviation in Florida, you can visit their website PEA.com, the price then was 56,000 USD around 17mil Naira then, it covers tuition, accommodation, feeding and exams, I couldn't afford it, so I settled for Cabin Crew....... It's not easy my man, but I will definitely be worth it, keep hope alive..... Peace.

If you want to be successful as a Pilot, I advise you go abroad for your training, If you got the cash go to flight schools in the USA, many are in Florida and Georgia and mostly south of USA, Best there because of the weather , Budget $70K for both living and Cost of Training. Jet Blue offers after training Jobs for Pilots with CPL and also Instrument rated. You will probably build your hours through them flying regional and then you can move to international routes at about 10000 hrs .

When you have about 1500 hrs or more this you can then move to delta and other big airlines.

Good Luck!

I strongly advise you against towing that

path, being a Pilot is highly overrated; unless

you are fortunate enough to be accepted into

an airline cadet program and they train you

from ab initio(basic training) to a type rating.

Being a pilot has always been my dream but since there was no funds to apply I settled for something else. In other news I have flown an airplane/helicopter/jet in Grand Theft Sand Andreas grin

Its not that easy brother. Frankly i would advice him to kill that dream of becoming a pilot. Except he has the money to burn, or he just wants to bear the name and not to earn from it. U would be amazed at the number of unemployed pilots in Nigeria. Speaking from experience...

Nowadays people dont know when to give reasonable opinion or just ignore. Look at all the rubbish comments on a serious issue at stake.@OP pilot training is for the financially bouyant because if you want standard training you have to look towards US or at worst SA. I will advice you to register on LInkedIN as you can easily search for pilots to chat with and get more insights. Goodluck

Did you read the part where i mentioned 'Jet Blue'?

I am speaking from Experience dude, I have a PPL but opted to do other things, Piloting is for young chaps. Best if you are in your teens , IN the USA all you need is Your High School Cert or SSCE as we know it and above 18 to be eligible to commence the training. If above 30? i dont advise it. I live in the USA dude and i know all there is to know about Piloting.

Nothing is easy? living itself is hard, if you know how many processes your body engages in just for you to stay alive, youd know that life and everything in it is not easy!

Good luck to the boy...let him follow his dreams.

Killing his dreams for becoming a pilot should be an exception for everyone luck shines differently. The fact I could not pursue my dream of becoming a pilot doesn't mean another person shouldn't smiley

No bro, but I have cousins and friends who are.

NB: If Op wants piloting, I'll advice him to go for it.

Opportunity lies where people complain. Nairaland isn't the best place for career advice. Op should try Quora.com

Thanks brother.
I will visit their site. Do you know if they give scholarship?

Don"t expect to get a Scholarship, You are a foreigner and not even a permanent Resident, then you would have been able to get student loans and that would only be applicable if you go to some universities that offer a 2 year program , that would eventually lead you getting the Instrument rating and CPL

Get your cash FULL and Complete, I advise $70k minimum.
