Source: http://www.infotech360hub.com.ng The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has reinstated that plans are afoot to remove yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos roads for a more efficient, well-structured and world class mass transportation system that would facilitate ease of movement within the city. As much as this decision looks like a step in the much needed right direction in order to actualize the mega-city status that is befitting of the state, the plan also comes inherently laden with so much problem that in some coffers, many people doubts its total implementation as it is seen to bring untold hardship to many amidst other complaints. Some of the foreseeable challenges that are said to combat the proposed move by the governor and his teams are: Currently there are an estimated over 10,000 yellow buses actively serving the state which is said to have a population figure of about 22 million and yet it isn’t sufficient, so where does the governor hope to raise the kind of capital for this investment without it impoverishing the already poor masses who are going to be forced against their will to use this proposed new form of transportation. The new form of transportation is going to be monopolistic in nature since there is no option of competition. The idea threatens to plunge the state into an era of uncontrolled crime as the scheme would render many unemployed, ranging from bus conductors, drivers, park dues collectors and the others that the yellow buses seem to have put into paid employment. If the government cannot provide adequate amenities for her citizens, how can it provide sufficient buses to cater for the over 19 million lagosians that use the yellow buses. With the current hike in BRT fares, lagosians doubt if this initiative is in the intrest of the masses or just another ploy toi score cheap political points at the detriments of the electorates. On behalf of lagosians, I call on the able governor to do a proper feasibility study and maybe a lot of town hall deliberations before implementing this brilliant but flawed idea. With a good and fast electronic light rail system, these buses would phase itself out. We are so focussed on the roads and are not exploiting other means of transportation. The pressure on roads is too much. Every good distribution within Nigeria is still routed by road. |

The ban will be the one of the best thing happening to Lagos. I support it whole heartedly. We should stop condemning all government policies. Replacing them with more decent busses handled by sensible human beings will make much sense. Forget the fact that crime rate will increase, that's not true. If we keep dwelling on the negative sides of every idea we will never move forward. God bless Abode |

otitokoroleti:He they come again, the government is already thinking of engaging the trainable ones among them. What if we have fast trains all around the city, will you be talking like this. Once we have effective rail system in place nobody will even talk about danfo drivers. Please always look at the positive sides of government policies at times, they ment well for us. |

*The idea threatens to plunge the state into an era of uncontrolled crime as the scheme would render many unemployed, ranging from bus conductors, drivers, park dues collectors and the others that the yellow buses seem to have put into paid employment.* I detest this part of your article, what if we have effective rail system across the State? Will you still be talking like this? If we all have this kind of your mind set we will never move forward. |

Samirana360:How? the government will surely engage some of them, once it is a gradual process we will never have a problem with this idea. |

Long overdue, those that want a modern life must evolve to the status, those that cannot coop should just relocate to their villages. Lagos needs a good transit overhaul to keep its place in the league of modern cities around the world. |
