BEDC supplies electricity to Okonjo-Iweala's community
- After seven years of darkness, Ogwashi Uku finally had electricity

- The residents applauded the BEDC for the project

- They urged that more transformers should be provided

There was wild jubilation in Ogwashi Uku which is the home town of former minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala following the restoration of electricity after seven years of darkness.

Vanguard reports that this was revealed by the Benin Electricity and Distribution Company (BEDC).

Residents in Okonjo-Iweala hometown celebrated the restoration of elecricity

Mrs. Esther Okolie who is the corporate affairs officer of the BEDC revealed that the restoration was carried out after a town hall meeting.

She said: “The restoration process started with a town-hall meeting organized by the members of Ogwashi-Uku D-Forum in collaboration with the Management of BEDC, led by the chief state head (Delta) Mr. Ernest Edgar, the business manager, Asaba business unit, Engr. Adekola. O. Abiodun and his technical team, among others.”

The company assured the residents that it would continue with enumeration re-validation, network rehabilitation and safety checks continue in earnest.

Mrs. Okolie stated: “Ogwashi- Uku happens to be the headquarters of Aniocha- South and is considered to be one of the biggest cities in Delta State with a polytechnic, banks and other parasatals; it has remained in the dark for over seven years until the intervention of BEDC, which is barely three years. No wonder the residents were so excited at welcoming BEDC team to the epoch- making occasion of power restoration to the area.”

“The power supply restoration commenced on March 10 from Market Junction 300KVA, 11/0.415KV substation, located close to the motor park. A total of six distribution substations were involved, namely motor park 300KVA, 11/0/415KV, Aghidiese Junction 300KVA, 11/0.415KV, Aghidie 300KVA, 11/0.415KV, Aghidiese 300KVA, 11/0.415KV, General Hospital 200 KVA, 11/0.415KV and Okwuogi 300KVA, 11/0.415 KV.”

“The chief state head, Delta, expressed shock at the level of vandalism of the network (given that BEDC had done rehabilitation work in June 2016), and pleaded with the communities leaders to work with BEDC to educate the public on the need to protect the equipment.”

“Once more, we commend and congratulate the people of Ogwashi- Uku for achieving this laudable feat and we advise them to be committed to prompt settlement of their bills so as not to be like their neighbors who could not sustain BEDC’s services.”
Pastor Joseph T. U. Nwadiashi who is the director general of D- Forum expressed joy at the project and applauded the BEDC for keeping fate with the community in line with Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s directive after many years of waiting.

He however pleaded that the company should keep its promise of lighting up all parts of the town.

OP you wrote what you heard from people and the BEDC here, and you forgot to ask the community people and some prominent people in Ogwashi-uku how much they paid BEDC before the light was restored. you think they just woke up and restored light. Soup paid millions of Naira and other prominent ogwashi-uku sons and Daughters before they even started fixing the light, So always get your information right and stop making it seem like the present APC government contributed anything to the restoration of light. it's the community effort that brought light to the town.

What they refuse to include is that most parts of oshimili and anioicha and Ika local govt areas of delta state are in darkness, I mean no electricity. It's only few places like Agbor, Asaba, Ibusu that there is power.

Let us do some little sensing here.

7 years ago was 2010 when their hero was acting president.

Served under their hero(president) from 2011 - 2015 as finance minister hence the outage lingered.

Yet some folks still refused to hide their head in shame. grin grin grin

I just wonder. So he thinks that BEDC would restore power for free right?

What shame? That okonjo is BEDC right? Even oghara ibori's time didn't have easy with having constant power despite the fact the governor is from there.

Yes shame angry angry angry .Shame on the sitting president ,his minister of power and on the woman if she had not taken any step to savage the situation.

You used Oghara as an instant forgetting that Ibori made a paradise of Oghara .

Today, his people are overly grateful for this achievement.

Do you what he did underground? Do you whether okonjo did likewise but didn't scale through? It's not as easy as some of think. Sapele today has a generating station but didn't had stable electricity until ibori fought tooth and nail and even now electricity is still a challenge there. Or would you blame lucky igbinedion or Adams oshiomole for poor power supply in some quarters in Edo? Even oshiomole's deputy governor village had same issue like okonjo village. Why didn't your media team visit there
I can go on and on to list many villages in that state in blackout whereas they have their sons and daughter in top position.

Dont get it twisted. Am not not a die hard supporter of present administration.

Where i stay in Delta state and some neighbouring communities is almost 24 hours light and please dont ask where.

But the question is,what have they not done right the present administration have been able to achieve?
