nemesis2u:well to avoid misleading the general public, the Nigerian version does not have any noticeable anti ship or anti air missile launch tube, neither does any VLS tube present in the hull although other non warfare equipment was installed such as an oil spill management suite. The P18n is an opv and is armed as such. . no picture or proof has ever surfaced online showing the p18n spotting any offensive weapon system other than her naval guns. please correct your post |

lionel4power:Haven got a close look at them i can say with out a doubt no missile are fitted. Though this is not a issue south africa puts boat davits on our missle decks. |

lionel4power:1st my post was about Type 056 corvettes of which p18n is a derivative , i have not explicitly stated anything relating to armaments of the p18n . 2nd when it comes to classification, global norm is to follow the OEM classification rather than local classification. so when reporting on Type 056 or its variants , people will generally classify it as corvettes , and if necessary as follow through mention its local classification eg. in Nigerian navy case OPV. so ur claim of me saying anything regarding armaments of p18n is untrue and unsubstantiated,as my post was explicitly about Type 056 corvettes . but ur free to post any additional info if u want. |

frumentius:when i said "Armament, however, appears to be essentially the same" it was to be understood that (at least i was expecting) the readers to understand it was a generalized statement since C13B is outfitted similarly like type 056 corvette unlike P18N. if some alien comments humans wear bras and panties , would anybody be nit picking whether the aliens meant the males or the females of the human species . it is kind of obivious isnt it . ![]() |

iblawi:it was developed by south africa and the company involved was denel. this was developed for use with the south african Atlas Cheetah the derivative of mirage iii. this was later sold to a particular foreign country (as the south african mirage / derivatives were retired ) who uses it now , given that nations mirage iii aircraft's were already qualified to carry/fire the ALCM. this was possible because the ALCM mechanical and electrical interfaces are specific to the mirage iii aircraft's only. |

iblawi:IMO the 2 ALCM r different (structural dissimilarity is visible) but we dont know about the sub-systems inside but one thing is sure their developer is same |

iblawi:TARGOS is a earlier version, while the ALCM i posted came later with design changes TARGOS never became operational (my personal opinion, to avoid being roasted later )similarly south african denel Raptor 1 become that specific nation's H-2 SOW (stand off weapon) south african denel Raptor 2 become that specific nation's H-4 SOW (stand off weapon) denel was very busy in south asia at one point of time ![]() it still is, supplying all the parts for their final assembly ![]() |

L&T’s ADFCR (air defence fire control radar) is a state-of-the-art, mobile, compact and user-friendly system that controls firing from two AD guns. It comprises a C-band 3-D search radar, an X-band tracking radar, an EO System, C2 System and an integral cooling system & power supply. It can be used for detection and tracking of both aerial and sea targets. It has simulator for gun and target for operator training.

L&T's anti mine etc solutions Ground Penetrating Radars L&T has designed and developed a state-of-the-art ground penetrating radar. This system is extremely compact and can be engineered to fit either ahead of vehicles/tanks or can be towed. The system can detect metal and non-metal objects up to a depth of 4M in all types of soil conditions and snow. The system utilises high-end algorithms enabling the user to see the image of the object and also provide 3D positioning of the object. Dual Technology Mine Detector DTMD (Dual Technology Mine Detector) is a hand-held sensor system combining a conventional metal detector of high sensitivity and a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for detection of buried landmines. The equipment has been specially developed by Larsen & Toubro for military applications as well as for humanitarian de-mining operations. The conventional metal detector provides audio alarms on presence of metallic objects. The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been integrated with the metal detector for detection of non-metallic mines which are increasingly being deployed currently to avoid detection. The equipment is designed to provide audio and video indications on presence of both metallic and non-metallic mines in different types of soil with very low probability of false alarms.

nemesis2u:There was no funding for these projects. Similar to the Small guided missile they proposed. The Cheetahs were retired later in 2008. |

MikeCZA:yes by the way IMO reduction of threat/threat perception has stunted to some extent the south african defence industry. south african arms industry specifically its exploits/innovation in land warfare system was part of our curriculum. mention must be made of the Rhodesian's input. |
