Africans are really crazy. I don't think they know what they are doing. The conference ought to be held in Africa, not America. Because Americans don't want us to grow. There are a lot of things I want to say about the US negative impacts on our continent but would stop here for now. The Asians can't be so foolish to go to the US, even if they want to go, the embassy might have signed an agreement to issue visas to all of them. |

when a woman wants you she doesn't approach you, rather she presents herself in such a manner that invited you to approach. you want to jump the gun.you want investment you do not fly to the states you rather put together a world class event in your country which invites people to come see. davidif: |

I wish to commend Donald Trump for his hardline policy on immigration. Trump strong message to us is that we should build our country and stop hiding under the cover of African summit. Some were saying that the summit was to bring investors to Africa. what about african investing in africa is it wrong or it can not work? Trump the disciplinarian has come to stay take it or leave it. |

ojlifa:The question is how many people want to go to Africa in the first place? You think this is Monaco we are talking about? You think you can just convince some businesses to come to your country simply because you are "hosting a world class event?" You must have never worked in the corporate world before have you? cos if you have you would know that corporations don't like to waste there money until they know its a sure thing. You don't spend money on a trip to Africa unless you are at an advanced stage of talks to close a deal or something along those lines. Show me how many companies will be willing to let there staff just fly to some far flung corner of the globe on an all expenses paid trip without first knowing about the place? Not only are they going to missing out on work but they are going to be on the hook if anything bad happens to him. This is a 'get to know you' kind of summit. A networking kind of thing like a career fair where a company comes to campus to sell themselves to students and to possibly conduct interviews on site. If they like You they can then fly you out to there facility for another round of interviews type stuff. If this where done in Africa maybe one or two big companies might be willing to send one or two employees there on a meet and greet but I can tell you that majority of the smaller to midsize companies won't. Besides who wants to fly to Addis Ababa? This is not Paris we are talking about? |

Although the rate of indisciminate US visa refusal has gone up dramatically since Trump came in; I must say this is one time that the consular got it right. I know Mary Flowers personally. She is a con artist (and anyone who bothers to do checks on her will discover same) and your perusal of her bland website is just the tip of the iceberg. She and her coy have nothing to offer. ttmacoy: |

jameseva:Big mouth. How are you superior when you can't get visa? How are you superior when you slept all night without fan or AC because NEPA take light?. How are you superior when you are struggling to get citizenship of another man's country? How are you superior when you cant hold meeting or seminar in Lagos, Johannesburg or Accra except New York and London. How are you superior when our brothers and sister in sports are representing white race? How many white people nationalize to your so called superior B.S. I repeat. Any meeting, conference or seminar of this kind benefits only the organizers and participants not Africa. |

This is a very apt and thoroughly researched answer. In summary you nailed it. The money spent by would be attendees registering and buying flight ticket would be better spent in Africa. We are complaining of poor forex earnings and low fdi and some persons can still cough out $500 for conference registration. This raises a flag. Also the issue of content on the website is another flag. I doubt if genuine attendees to standard and recognised technical conferences organised by IEEE and SPE would be denied visas. It may be that the conference is actually a means of fleecing would be attendees who also have sinister motives beyond attending the "conference". ttmacoy: |

ojlifa:Hahajajaha this comment is so laughable it's not even funny. So a continent that depends on aid from western countries for survival is sooo valuable to the rest of the world will collapse without it? Isn't that like saying a rich man would go bankrupt without the beggar who begs him for good? For you to even say that because 191 planes land in nigeria daily is a sign foreigners want to come to Africa is just fallacious. Foreigners who usually come to Africa are aid workers, the adventurous type or the guy who grudgingly gets sent to Africa on a posting from his employer because they can't find a local guy to do the job better. So for you to say that foreigners want to come to Africa is just plain fallacious bruh. Your comment is so full of false assumptions and conflated mumbo jumbo that I am even wondering whether to even waste my time to unpack the rest. because i dont want to derail the thread. So I am going to re-iterate what I said earlier about people's perception of Africa, Sub Saharan Africa is not a prime business destination nor is it a desirable vacation destination meaning that if you want people to come you have to give them a very convinvincing reason to and that includes going there to present your case because of you think a westerners who values his time so very much is going to take time out of their day and leave there family (not to mention the multiple antimalarial injections they have to take before even coming here) then you have either never lived abroad before one worked there. |

ttmacoy:Dude, this is a fairly young summit. It's not as established yet so I doubt if they have acquired the sophistication or have the clout for that yet. Secondly, your assertion that "if she truly wants to help American companies recognise investment opportunities in Africa why not take them to Africa which will be a lot cheaper and easier?" shows that you have not worked in the corporate world over here because if you have you would know that no one is going to send there employees on an all expenses paid trip to a far flunged country for some summit somewhere on planet earth. That's a waste of my time and resources especially if I am a small or mid sized company that can barely afford it. If you want me to come and invest in your country come and convince me first and introduce yourself to me. |

There is no point beating the horse on this. Young or not the website for the summit is poor and suspect and I will not logically pay money based on what I saw on the site. Imagine the conversation with the VO, so what topic or speaker are you looking forward to hearing at the summit. errr I don't know the speakers yet. What companies etc. are you hoping to meet, errr it wasn't on the website. You see how silly that will sound? Yes I agree the summit can either be held in the US or Africa, but saying companies will not send people to Africa is wrong. If a company sees the opportunities she claims on the summit website trust me they will send people. I have already posted links to previous similar summits held in Africa e.g. Addis Ababa and there was clearly photos of prior events with lots and lots of people so that puts your theory companies will not come to Africa to bed. Again I ask where are photos of prior events and delegates and speakers? Or is the event too young to take photos in this day and age where smartphones all have cameras? Can you honestly tell me if I sent you this link and told you hey this is an amazing summit go register $500, you will look at that site and pay for it? Can you honestly look at that link and tell me you will pay for it? http://www.agedsummit.com/ I can assure you I have enough corporate experience to know companies and investors will fly to Nigeria if there are opportunities that warrant it and I have sent you an example of the Addis Ababa event which was full of people so I don't get why you keep claiming people will not come to Africa. I have worked for investment banks and currently a consulting firm and so I do not lack corporate experience. Look at the objective of the summit, it is to introduce American companies to the lots of opportunities in Africa so if she has run this event 3 to 4 times why is there no information on past events, past successes etc? Instead you have copy and paste text from the UN climate change publication, and copy and paste from Forbes on iRoko. I'm sorry but I will NOT pay for such an event, and if I was a visa officer I would have lots of questions and the fact every single attendee was refused across multi African embassies suggest the summit must have been blacklisted. Why is there only one sponsor of the event, literally this Mary Flower who heads both the consulting firm and the black alumni association, why only those 2 parties linked by 1 person. Those are the type of logical questions I would expect asked before paying money and I would expect VOs will also look at all this and if I was a visa officer the fact I can't even pay for such event means I will not issue the visa. davidif: |

ttmacoy:Dude, i said in my earlier post that only the wealthy and large multinational companies can afford to send there people on some trip to a far flung corner of the world. The small to midsize to small companies won't. Why would i want to risk exposure to countries with political instability, weak laws and infrastructure. Secondly, this is not the first time they have hosted the event. They have hosted it multiple times and they say they usually get only a 40% rejection rate so why 100% this time around? uhn? If you think this has nothing to do with Trump's policies then you truly are deluded sir. For more information see below. ojlifa:First of all, i am not a child of hate. Secondly, i don't live in Nigeria. Thirdly, i have no ties to Israel. Fourthly, your assertion that "every technological product get atlist one of its raw materials from Africa" is probably conjecture. So why don't you the research on the components of all this technology you are talking about, trace there origins then we can talk later. Oh by the way, its at least not "atlist" neither is Uranium spelt as "urinum". As for Israel, well i assume that you have already seen my spelling. Lastly, have a good day. |
