I suspect there is so much dollars in the system. Speculators are having their fingers burnt. Now they want to offload their dollars. The sooner they offload it the better because this exchange rate is heading to N240 per dollar before third quarter of the year 2017.

Nice one bro... I get ur point on this but we still get small argument for that 1dollar to 1naira... lol

Anyway, thanks to U, learnt a few, I don't mind learning more tho cos I have been searching for a whatsapp group where Economics, Politics and Governance are being discussed INTELLECTUALLY. Do u know anyone or cud u start up one?? lol

. If yes, how sustainable is it going to be or are we going to see ourselves going back to 1dollar at 500 naira maybe later this year?? Thanks.
No,the dollars is gotten from crude oil sales.dont forget that the price of crude oil has increased astronomically and miltant activities has stopped, thus increase in sales of crude oil and increase in revenue....dont also forget that federal govt have increased our xternal reseerve from 4 billion dollars to 30 billion in 3 months.dis is due to oil boom.mathematically,if we could generate 6 billionn dollars in less than 3 moths,we could get 24 billion dollars by end of the yr from crude sales.CBN said their xternal reserve target is 40 bn by end of the yr..add 10 bn from that 24bn to the xternal reserve,() will have 14 billion dollars to service the economy.mind u,this depends on crude oil price.if the price of oil falls,we might not meet this target.if it increases,we will be more fruitful

point number one and two feet k-leg.... U can't compare the quality of Vuitton bag to aba made bags..... Have u ever compared to a Nigerian designer made items to foreign made ones of the same prize?... U will realize that the Nigerian made one bags quality are lower and less durable than the foreign ones. Most of these ladies u mentioned that patronize locally made bags are the ones that can't afford foreign made ones. If they are chanced or financially buoyed enough, I bet u, they will ditch local ones for foreign ones.

What u should be clamoring for is replacing foreign raw materials with local ones. Eg, the hides and skins production should be increased and made available to leather companies instead of consuming them as ponmo.... Otherwise, if Nigerian quality bag manufacturers are to depend on foreign raw materials like, the final price will be far higher than the foreign ones, since the foreign manufacturers get raw materials cheaply
Bros let them source for another source of raw material, but kindly leave kpomo out of this.
Thanks

? Most things the poor man buys, from slippers to singlet to Vaseline is imported with dollars. Even plastic bucket - the pellets and machines are dollar based
U mean we now import sugar cane, orange, mangoes, potatoes, yam, and greens.. Cuz off late it seems so.

Nobody is talking about touching dollars. What do we produce in Nigeria. We import virtually everything. If the exchange rate is high, prices of common commodity will definitely be high.

For instance, why was the price fuel increased? Electronics are high, even the food you are talking about, your rent etc. Inflation will set in.
Should dollar be 150 today do u think this prices will drop

Well, it goes beyond everyone touching the dollar. You didn't get the message the person you quoted was trying to pass.
If dollars depreciate against naira, you and me don't need to touch the dollar before enjoying the benefits. The price of rice for instance will come down and that's will be the benefit for all of us.
Yea in terms of foreign imported goods.. How bout items like melon, sugar cane etc even apple is still sold @ 70 but y is local farm produce sold at exhobitant prices?
Re: Naira Watch: Naira Appreciates To N420/$ by Igbonoid: 5:56am On Apr 07, 2017
tejpot:
That is true, the exchange rate can decide to skyrocket to N1000, it doesn't affect us. Whether the dollar goes up or down rice will still be costly, palm oil will still be sold high, petrol will still be N145, diesel will still be sold for N280 and BRT will still be N300. I duff my cap for your rare trait of intelligence. Keep it!!
Tell me the last time price wen up and turned back down in Nigeria??

Because the producers of the items you listed (locally produced items) also spend their income on other items that depend on the dollars.
That's where the term "inflation" came in.

Thankfully, no. But the people who sold the orange and yam have to buy slippers and tomato paste with their profits, and those things have gone up in cost.

But for the Apple price still remains at N70, let me post this: the day I knew the profit on one cartoon of apples, I realised we were being cheated.
