Book Cover Design – "Turning 30"

Client: Ade 'Sewa
Genre: Non-Fiction / Self-Help
Memoir Tone: Witty, Relatable, Vibrant, Feminine

1. The Concept
The design challenge was to capture the duality of the modern 30-year-old experience: the excitement of "thriving" mixed with the exhaustion of "adulting." The cover needed to feel like a conversation with a best friend—fun, unpretentious, and deeply relatable to millennial women.

2. The Visual Strategy
We created two distinct color stories to explore different moods of the same narrative.

Variation A: The "Radiant" Edition (Mustard Yellow)
• Color Palette: A bold, monochromatic mustard yellow background evokes warmth, energy, and optimism. It screams "new beginnings."
• Illustration: The character is styled with a playful up-do (space buns with flowers) and a wide, hopeful gaze looking upward. This visualizes the "Thriving" aspect of the title.
• Typography: The title combines a bold, quirky serif font for "Turning 30" with a loose, handwritten script for the subtitle. This font pairing suggests a balance between stability and playfulness.

Variation B: The "Regal" Edition (Deep Purple)
• Color Palette: A deep royal purple background creates a sense of maturity, wisdom, and luxury. The high contrast with the character’s yellow dress makes the figure pop off the shelf.
• Illustration: The character is depicted with loose, flowing hair and a hand-to-face pose that suggests contemplation and confidence. It feels slightly more grounded and sophisticated.
• Layout: The layout remains centered to maintain focus on the character's expression, ensuring the emotional connection is the first thing a potential reader sees.

3. The Result
Both designs successfully move away from generic stock photography, utilizing custom digital illustration to represent the target audience authentically. The covers are vibrant, poster-quality, and designed to stand out as thumbnails on digital bookstores (Amazon/Kindle) just as effectively as they would on a physical bookshelf.
