Many young people I know using Lexus think it is the best car they have ever used. Only because that group are more adventurous & likely to try new things.

We all feel comfortable with what we know. If dad used his Benz for 15 years with minimal problems, that stays with you.

No matter how swanky a Skoda SUV might look, most will still prefer Toyata Prado, ML and such.

Hard earned reputation over time it is.

And Most do not know that it is the same company that makes Skoda,Porsche and Audi because they know very little about cars or how the industry operates which is like a great cartel to keep money in a few countries under the name of industrialized nations.
Quite often these days,production of the components of many cars are outsourced to manufacturers that produce for competing companies in the same factories and some cars in the market are nott significantly different exept for the Badge/logo in front
Some cars that are sold as Skodas in poorer countries are badged as VW Passat in Europe and marked up in price by up to 50%

Lexus is very good in SUVs. The RX 330 and 350 are super hits/must drive. The success with those 2 cars can only be likened to the successes of Toyota Camry and Corolla in the past.

Now the Lexus LX570 monster costs like N60m. Is that a chicken change ? Some Nigerians tend to belittle the Toyota and Lexus brands yet they pray in their closet to afford them.

Talking of quality, service and delivery, Lexus and toyota are world best. They just need to remodel the body kits of their Lexus sedans. They are nothing to reckon with...

I think the frustration Lexus have is if they produce a car of similar or marginally better quality than a Merc or Audi into the Market for $50000 they know those two could probably sell same for 70-80K and maybe still sell more units. If they are to change that they need to adopt a very long term marketing strategy targeting people still in primary and secondary school because that is when people decide which car they will drive when they grow up.People are not swayed by and often do not even understand technical objective info

Merscedes has this problematic SUV model called GL series. That car is always stopping on the highway for trivial issues no matter how new it is. I just assisted one driver last week. I think reliability should be the first point to consider when choosing a car.

The truth of the matter is this if you take $50000 to market and spend it on either a Toyota or a Mercedes which will give you better performance value? I believe the Toyota hands down in fact you willl need to spend 80K on a merc to get the same value
Which willl give you better social standing perception? Usually the Mercedes which also tends to have better second hand value but more expensive parts.
I summary if you are a young man driven by testosterone and the need to impress buy a Merc. If you are a family man needing value for money go for a Toyota

You cannot compare Lexus that is a recent offshoot of Toyota to 91 years of continuous breakthrough, improvement and pace setting by Mercedes na.

Lexus should seek to grab more market share of young upwardly mobile people. Who will hopefully remain loyal for decades. So that 30 years from now, moneyed people in their 60s and above will consider it a genuine alternative to Benz.

But BMW, Audi, Nissan Infinity, Honda Acura and others are seriously making that young upwardly mobile segment difficult.

You should place bmw and benz on the same line. Benz just outsold bmw this year for the first time.

Funny enuf, Lexus models are occupying the first and third positions of top ten best selling SUVs for last year. Merc is 5th and 7th. BMW 8th and 9th places. Audi placed 6th.

Not just Lexus but the entire crappy Japanese pretence at luxury; Accura, Infinity and Lexus.

After 450 prototype to emulate the German machines, the Lexus still falls short in speed, luxury and manoeuvrability compared to the German cars.
