A 500lvl Building Technology student of Covenant University, who has been identified as Segun, reportedly died yesterday, after he was rushed down to the school's hospital after being hit on the head.

Getting to the hospital, basic hospital equipment like defibrillator and oxygen were not available, and the life guard, who was on duty couldn't do his job. Also, the student who disclosed the recent incident, claimed that the hospital is filled with quack doctors. Segun who was driven down to the hospital by one of the school's lecturers, eventually died.

Well...if he hit his head...a defibrillator if it had been available. won't have made much difference, not would oxygen too

Head trauma= bleed on the brain=neurosurgeon now!

The guy needed urgent neurosurgical care....which is available only at a teaching hospital.

I thought the gist was that he died even before they got to the healthcenter? Anyways we have good equipments, but I feel the doctors don't know what they are doing honestly angry maybe they don't know how to use the equipments I don't even know. But I once had a Terrible experience with the health center cry the doctor couldn't even set a line properly! The attitude of the nurses sef is another story entirely(though this one is a general problem) They just need to employ professional hands, because those ones there ehn undecided it is well embarassed
Everything is malaria, even leg pain they will sha relate it to malaria, skin irritation, is malaria, everything is malaria +++ food poisoning they will give malaria drugs angry I feel is only the dentist that is excellent! That woman is good.
I can't speak for the competency of doctors at covenant's clinic...but if the deceased hit his head...the place he should have been is a teaching hospital, under neurosurgical care...not a university health center.

And they will be comparing the school with the likes of UNIBEN/ UI.....smh (they better wake up)

It's not by buying all the equipment and all, it's by knowing how to use them which I'm sure they lack. It's just like a rich man who has lots of cars in his garage and don't know how to drive. What will be his fate when something happens to him when he is home alone and nobody there to drive him to the hospital? I'm sure that's when he will realize that even 20 cars can't save him.

Doctors produced by our federal and state universities. But Amokeme having gone to that health centre often during my Stay in CU i was never misdiagnosed. The only problem i had was with the drivers of the med shuttle bus. But when i complained to Azu i got a feeling that the drivers weren't really employed by CU but d LFC anyway we must get to the root of this matter.
what does doctors produced by state and federal schools have to do with bad infrastructure or the Death of the student?,why always try to make public schools look like a second fiddle In the education sector?if covenant is really that good why haven't they started their own faculty of medical science after been in the game for 12 years?you just make me laugh when I see ur comments,if all you could learn from covenant university was spewing trash online I rather attend a COE than end up been like you

Do you know I've been thinking of the bold really. I will one of this days. They don't keep proper record of a patient's history. I was admitted for close to 3 weeks, and they were not treating me for what I was even admitted for. I had severe anemia and they weren't giving me reasonable blood capsule and the Menorrhagia "turn to malaria". That was what they were treating me for instead of Menorrhagia. Can you imagine that?! My PCV was 12% cry asin 12!! And they were still pumping strong malaria and typhoid drips into my vain. I had to still go home on medical grounds,
And I know you can imagine my medical bill that semester. We have great equipments I mean some "standard" hospitals don't even have what we have, but the doctors don't know how to use those things

Did you really have to add that the doctors there were produced by state and federal schools? Did they go through any form of examination by CU before being employed or not? Who employed them? The government as well? Does it change the fact that the hospital doesn't have good doctors? That someone just died due to that? No it doesn't! I don't care if they pay you to do that, but a promising young man just died, its not the time to take sides.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. This News breaks my heart seriously.

As regards equipment, I do not believe CU does not have medical equipments, having gone there myself and also visiting my admitted friends I can say authoritatively that CU has good equipments. But some of the staff at the health center should definitely be fired especially the medical shuttle drivers.

Even Crawford uni had to use this same health center as their medical centre for a period of time. I also know High profile ppl who use this Hospital.
Equipment doesn't have a plural. After now, you will come and tell us about the quality of the education and stuff in the school.

I really doubt a Doctor from John Hopkins would misdiagnose on a stretch na. You better don't kill urself or give your self high blood pressure over matter wet no concern you...

How could they not have noticed your menorrhagia from history and/or examination? Or not link it to your severe anaemia if it has been a frequent occurrence over time?

Although that you had menorrhagia does not mean that malaria and typhoid couldn't have been present too.

Also remember that menorrhagia sometimes might not influence PCV. Because it might not have been long enough to affect PCV. Like cutting yourself and losing lots of blood would not affect PCV right away. In simple terms, you lost some blood volume, the blood that remains inside you has not been diluted yet to lower your PCV.

Since they checked your PCV, I'd believe they checked it for malaria parasites too.

They might have suspected that the severity of your anaemia could have multiple causes. Once it is clear that you do not have sickle cell and you are not otherwise malnourished. In the tropics, malaria is one of the most common causes. It is common things first. Though it might seem simple or repetitive from the patient's experience/perspective.

Pity that many healthcare professionals are said to be unfriendly in 9ja. If not, they should be explaining their procedures, tests, results, diagnoses and treatment plan to patients clearly. But then workers in most sectors are unfriendly:civil servants, police, armed forces, some bankers, barbers, even roadside sellers. All frequently show attitude.

Not knowing what is going on would make patients think they might be getting the wrong or unnecessary treatment.

You just made a sensible statement on your other response about only to mar it with thishuh A doctor who receives a medical training is expected to be proficient at his medical profession while an English student is expected to be proficient at English language. Education has nothing to do with proficiency in English language much less Higher Education, but i don't expect intellectually colonised Nigerians to understand that. Therefore your point can only be validated if I studied English language in the University.

Lastly, the term Fed and State unis is a blanket term, therefore I don't understand why u took offense unnecessarily...

Young man, you should have taken correction jejely and moved on. There was no need to cast aspersions by being disrespectful.

In any case, do you mean to say that a graduate of CU is allowed to not be able to work out basic arithmetic like to calculate his net salary from the gross because the person is not a mathematics scholar? Or that it's alright to live and work in a country and not know the name of the president of that country because you're not a political science graduate?

Look, if you have a point, table it and be objective about it.
