Lagos Govt - We Won't Succumb To Blackmail, We Stand By Our Decision On Otodo Gb by 247frolic(op): 8:30am On Apr 10, 2017
The Lagos State Government on Sunday justified the demolition of properties in Otodo Gbame and subsequent attack on the settlers by security operatives.

In a statement via its Twitter account, @LAGOSGMT1, the Lagos State government said, “The demolition of #OtodoGbame was carried out as a security measure in the overall interest of all Lagosians.

“Intelligence report has revealed that militants are using the illegal #OtodoGbame settlement as a base.

“Credible intelligence gathering shows that militants are living amongst the people in #OtodoGbame and are perfecting plans to attack Lekki and VI.

“LASG places a high premium on security and will not abdicate in its duty to protect the lives and property of all residents. #OtodoGbame.

“The killing of security agents in the Ishawo area of Lagos by militants further strengthens the resolve of government to clear the #OtodoGbame.

“The Lagos State government in collaboration with security agencies will stop at nothing to secure the State. #OtodoGbame.

“The government will not succumb to emotional blackmail and will stand by this decision because it is in the best interest of all residents #OtodoGbame.

The settlement in Otodo Gbame is illegal, without any title or appropriate government approval. #OtodoGbame.

“We are willing to take unpopular decisions that will protect lives and property. The #OtodoGbame situation is one of such.”

So, the best way to forestall an attack from the militants living amongst the residents of Gbame is to demolish the entire place abi? The existence of the non-militants doesn't matter, no?

The Lagos state govt is making a valid point ..If militants infiltrate that place and use it as a base from where to launch kidnap, robbery and terror attacks on the Island it would be dangerous I tell you...Ambode must make sure everything innocent dweller is properly rehabilitated and not allowed to be floating on the Lagoon all hopeless and forlorn because our were broken by those sad images of helpless people in small dugouts floating aimlessly on the lagoon while the watched their homes get torched by security forces who should be protecting them

Like some people have said on the earlier thread,it is better to live better in your village than living in shanties in Lagos. Must you live in Lagos to succeed, if Lagos is not working for you go back to your village or town. I have seen Carpenters and Bricklayer build a storey building in Abeokuta when I was schooling there while their counterparts in Lagos will be struggling to pay rent in their one room apartments.

I thought they first denied involvement and claimed that it was a fracas between the Eguns and Yorubas within the community?

The community had taken the LASG to court and there was a standing court order stopping the demolition.

Why did the LASG disobey a court order?

Why did the LASG just yesterday denied involvement but blamed the demolition on a feud between the Eguns and Yorubas living in the area?

Why are they now talking about militants and criminals and justifying the demolition as their action?
