There are also questions about whether
Nigeria will be able to pay the full $600 million for
the aircraft, equipment, training and support.

AFGAAN DONATES COMPO PACKS TO NAF PERSONNEL

The Air Force Girls Alumni Association of Nigeria (AFGAAN) today donated composite ration (Compo) packs to Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel in the North East in appreciation of the enormous contributions of the NAF to the ongoing fight against insurgency. The AFGAAN Welfare Coordinator, Aisha Ugochukwu, who presented over 500 compo packs to the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the gesture was to encourage NAF personnel to remain committed in their quest for peace in the country.

The National Vice Chairman of the Association, Zainab Gambo, who led the AFGAAN Executive members on the courtesy visit to the CAS disclosed that the Association would commission some “AFGAAN Gives Back Projects” at the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School, Jos to mark its 10 years of existence as an Alumni Association and to celebrate the 30TH Anniversary of the School. She thanked the NAF for its contributions to ‘girl child education’ adding that the calibre of women produced by the School over the years has justified the huge investment of the NAF in the provision of sound education to the girl child.

In his response, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed delight at the gesture of the Association and promised to deliver the compo packs to personnel in the operational area. He reassured AFGAAN of his commitment to girl child education and disclosed that the present NAF leadership is establishing new schools and strengthening existing ones to ensure easy access to quality education by dependents of NAF personnel.

They can be armed with two wing-mounted machine guns and can carry up to 1,550 kg of weapons.

But the aircraft that would be sold to Nigeria come with a "very basic armed configuration," one of the unnamed US officials told Reuters.

I honestly wonder why Nigeria and Kenya had to suckup to the US just to buy the Air Tractor and Tucano. Couldn't you have gone East for something better like attack helis or combat trainer jets.

Why beg so much to pay so much. It's rather humiliating.

And then there's the Iomax Archangel, which Egypt is currently negotiating to buy, at $9-14 million a unit, depending on configuration.

Pics: The Block 1 Archangel whose entire production was bought by the UAE.

That's the problem with the Kenya deal. They thought they were getting the Archangel. Instead L-3 Communications was awarded a no-bid contract for a plane they don't even make, at double the price Iomax would've charged. The whole thing stinks.

This is another way of saying we are not selling. They are forcing us to say we don't need it anymore and even if we buy it they will still be grounded like the jaguars.

Let's just forget the Tucano forever. Mig 35 on my mind now.

You see how long it has taken us to agree on the JF-17

Imagine what happens if we change sights to the Mig-35
Lest I forget its not like we are O.B.O presently

I believe the Jf17 gave issue cause there is no export version yet. Secondly, because only a single seat variant is available for now.

I know there will be a lot of politics to play but for now we can be on a low key.

The truth is that I've lost interest in the Tucano already.

If we didn't have close ties with Pakistan we'd have ordered directly from China

Tucano...I didn't have interest b4

Those yellow helmets in the first photo look just like Russian armoured vehicle crew helmets, interesting.

Airborne armoured capability is something more African countries should invest in. The Russians had it right with the BMD.

What happened to the Chinese j11. Their flankers variaints? we're using Chinese mig 21 variants already.

The fact is people from the west are eating us up. Except NAF is expecting 25 aircrafs from US, the 600M USD is too much.
Henry said the Russians flanker have high operational cost so I'll just go for the Mig35, J10, J11, SU34 and probably more jf17.

I have seen the J11 do fly by and do aerobatic moves so I'll say it's a nice aircraft.

Anyway, it's our opinion. Those guys at DHQ, NAF HQ are not thinking like us.

Even the Biblical Daniel would not be able to tell the future of these guys

Anyway I trust CAS is street smart. We should just forget these Tucanos and focus on Helos and putting the farawa into production

Ahhh. It's better they just purchase the Tucano at high price than we getting news of missing 600M USD o. Half bread is better than none grin

The CAS is a very smart man. Let wait for news update to reverify the price tag.

The J11 is an air superiority fighter while the j16 is a multirole.

12 of these will go for 384M USD or 420M USD at maximum.
